I was surfing on ebay this morning and guess what I saw...
A Greenwood !!!!
With the reserve met on an opening bid of $170, it should be interesting to see what the final outcome is.

It's only about the most sought after out of print deck in existence. I've never quite understood why myself, but I'm sure someone else here will tell you before long. We've seen it sell for far more than that before.

I wouldn't necessarily say that it's the most sought after OOP deck in existence.
There are some less frequently posted OOP decks that would certainly be extremely hot on eBay if they were to be posted on eBay. My feeling is that such decks are sold on the non-auction market though.
I'm waiting for the monochrome Sangreal Thoth tarot deck. :) Has that one ever been posted on eBay?
However, on eBay, the Greenwood certainly gets pretty hot in bidding wars. So, although it's not the most, it's on the short list of sought after yet still occasionally posted eBay decks.

Yep, $170 is just the opening bid.

You've got a good point, Rusty. It does seem to appear on eBay fairly often, considering. There seem to be alot of them sitting around in the collections of people who don't especially like them and then when they find out how much they can get for them, up onto eBay they go!

When a less often seen deck does make it onto eBay, it becomes almost like a meeting of the clans in terms of bidding interest, speaking from the limited time I've been on eBay.

Servants of the Light and the Vertigo are another two which are out of print but get sold for big bucks on ebay. But the Greenwood -- I heard that had a printing of 5,000 decks total (same number as the Baroque Bohemian Cats Tarot actually), so while some have permanent homes, some are with collectors, some have been destroyed over time, some are maybe sitting in a warehouse or back room at bookstores as unsold backstock, SOME still make the rounds on eBay. Long as people still want them they'll be going for over $100 each and every time.

The Greenwood that was up for auction on eBay just went for $187.50!!!!!!! That's the lowest I've ever seen it sell for. If I'd known it was going to go that cheaply, I'd have probably been bidding at the end of the auction, myself!

Well, there are two copies going at the UK ebay site at the moment:
One at £40
One at £80
I wonder if anyone else will sell it? There are currently around 18 buyers waiting at Amazon for copies of it.
I have seen on other threads that people bought it last year for £10 or less at Glastonbury. If only I could find out where.
Cheers,
Webwitch :)

As Rusty Neon mentioned, there are many decks that routinely go for higher amounts. The rash of Pamela "B" decks on ebay lately have each gone for over $300. At least they are old, circa 1910. Many of the rarer Folchi's, or the Minotarot, Dante/Poggi or Pendragon Mother's go for high dollar amounts also. Even rarer decks never make to it to ebay. There are several private sales going on now, with decks I've never heard of before, even though my 'want list' has over a thousand titles. I'd love to see the Bearot, Tantric, Massimo Pulini, or the Veneziani/Venditti on ebay, but they are locked away in some ones' collection. Meanwhile the prices on the Greenwoods, Hermetics and Vertigos have been dropping lately, compared with two years ago. That's a trend that I like!

I loke the look of the Greenwood deck but at that price it may spend quite a while on the wishlist. I could justify one of thos really old RWS Decks. Oh if only I had the cash.

Are congratulations in order, or are the names just coincidence?
(I'm a big ebay watcher!)

Hiya Lillie
Thank you. Yes, the name is the same. It was a birthday present to self, along with an An Fianna Bodhran. I have been searching for quite some time for something that is similiar to my spiritual path.
Cheers,
Webwitch :)

Oh, well done!
I put all interesting decks on the watch list and see what they go for!
I kept an eye on the Greenwood as I have heard so much about it here.
I have never actually seen one in the flesh.
Not a bad price either! Of course everyone thinks our pounds are expensive, but we know they are just worth a pound each!
Congratulations.:)
