Golden Tarot

I just ordered the Golden Tarot :)
It is going to join my Vampires deck...I hope they can get along okay. (Same goes for all the decks I'll be ordering in the future...I shouldn't look at the list of decks, I become obsessed with having them).
I'm excited. This deck really speaks to me, and the artwork is beautiful.

For those of you who use or who are familiar with the Golden Tarot, what is reading with this deck like for you?
What sort of treatment does it like, what's the overall feeling of it, etc.

Gracias,

Lasiren

Hi Lasiren, and nice to have you on these boards.

This deck is one of my favorites, although I do not read with it as much as I would like to,for various reasons.

The artwork is definitely one of the best around, hands down and it is very authentic and original although it bears the medieval theme.

The shades of this deck are rather subdued but it is always easy to read with them since the pictures do speak louder than words.

There is a booklet that comes with the set which will start you off but the images are so self-explanatory and RWS that you will get your message without having to refer to the booklet every so often .

The cardstock is sturdy and the size is just right.

My only advice is that once you get this deck, or any other new deck for that matter, it would be a good idea to get really aquainted with it, by concentrating on daily readings solely with it. This way you will form a bond between the both of you, that will always be there, even when you expand your deck collection further .

I would have to agree. The images are very similar to the RW, but with an added dimention to them. :)

This is my favorite reading deck. It has all the value of the RWS for me, but I get a lot more out of the images.

I find I get a better intuitive side to my reading, and many more unusual meanings due to the type of illustrations. (Recently the Ace of Cups and the Wheel of Fortune came out as breastfeeding for me :D )

People I have read for often comment it is a very gentle deck. The cards are quite thick and heavy, and I love that. It has a kind of solemn beauty (:P sounds like a crappy cliche, but thats the best I could come up with  )

Thanks everybody :)

I really look forward to reading with and establishing a bond with this deck.

Similia, you described it as a gentle deck, and I got that impression from it right away.
It sounds as though my Vampires deck is looking forward to this new arrival: over the past couple days I have been asking it how it feels about my getting the Golden deck, and it seems very happy! It's given me the 9 of Cups, 4 of Wands, 9 of Pentacles and Ace of Cups.

I am a huge fan of this beautiful deck! You have alot to look foward to in this deck :)

This is a fantastic deck only quibble is artwork is so great it's too easy to get distracted })

I love this deck too, it's only my third. I wanted a more gentle deck than then last and this one seemed just right, I would see it everwhere I was browsing. The artwork is beautiful and it does talk to me, I really trust it. Something about it just reaches deep inside, the messages it gives aren't stark, they are lessons as well. The messages seem much deeper than the last deck I had, really sparks the unconscious, I have learned a lot so far. x

HMMM, I was a little disappointed in this deck for some reason. It is definitelt beautifully packaged and I like the gold gilded edges of the accompanying book. The imagery on the cards themselves are wonderful but I found them more subdued than I was expecting. Sometimes I felt like I had an old playing card deck in my hands rather than a Tarot deck. It is a gentle deck so maybe I just have to get used to it. I haven't had it very long and haven't officially read with it yet so maybe it will grow on me.

Asenath  31 May 2005
Well it's my first deck. When I opened the box up and looked at them the first time I was disappointed too. As you said they're beautiful and all, but they didn't really speak to me like they did when I saw them online.

Maybe they were just shy, but I'm really enjoying them now. There are different and new little things in the pictures that I pick out when I look at the cards and it makes me feel like I'm on the right track for interpreting their meanings.

For example, last night when I looked at the two of cups, it dawned on me that it could be representing a union of imagination (the female character) and realism (male character). But then I noticed that the female character isn't looking out at you. She seems to be distracted with something. She (or my imagination, since I was doing the reading for myself) seems to be wandering.

Little cues like that make me happy. :)

I, too, was a bit disappointed with the Golden, at first. I am not exactly sure what I was expecting, but I had trouble connecting with them. Maybe too many images to take in, at once. Eventually, I expect to warm up to them, a great deal, and will try some readings. Either way, it is a wonderful deck and a nice addition to any collection!

I am absolutely in love with this deck but I'm almost afraid to handle the cards never mind read with them. Too beautiful, I suppose, and the gilt edges make me nervous. There are many fantastic cards, such as the Hermit, and I agree that the images may be a little distracting. I've been away from tarot for a few months but will use this deck to draw me back in this summer. It's the last deck I acquired before my break so it deserves more time.

Kat Black's website is very nice, too (links are great). You can view the original designs if you look for Old Virtual Deck under Site Map. Interesting to compare the original and final designs if you're nerdy like I am.

I like this deck ALOT, so much infact with my crappy sewing skills ive struggled, and just made a lovely (rubbish) green velvet tarot bag, with a fancy gold ribbon to keep my deck in :P
This prolly makes no sence, but when i hold it i feel like ive got something really genuine, solid and honest in my hands. The colours in some places are subtle and muted, in others zingy and vibrant i enjoy the contrast and feel that it makes different parts of the cards stand out at different times and for different readings, it reminds me a little of the colours in my lovely medieval cats tarot which i like alot too.

Its a yummy-scrummy deck, mouth watering in fact !! :)

It's still on my wish-list. Hopefully I will be able to pick it up at the conference. I just ache for it.
