Jonathan Dee decks

Can someone give me a list of these?
I'm curious...I keep hearing them brought up, but don't know which ones they are.

Also, did anyone have the same initial reaction to the mention of a Jonathan Dee deck as I did?
Maybe I'm just a big Gothic comics nerd, but I freaked slightly because the first thing it brought to mind was the weird-@$$ John Dee/Doctor Destiny character from the first issue of The Sandman. *shudder*
Anyone know what I'm talking about?
I so would not want to see him on a Tarot deck!

Now, a Neil Gaiman tarot would be interesting...characters from Neverwhere, Sandman, and American Gods.
Anyone want to hazard a guess at who might possibly be on the Death card?

Hi Lasiren,

I can't remember hearing of this deck but the first thought that popped into my mind was Jonathon Dee who was astrologer and psychic to Elizabeth I . Could be wrong though.

I don't know the deck but got curious now and I found this one:

It doesn't look scary or weird :D I think it is the same one they sell on ebay as "Tarot in a tin" because it says a tin of tarot, but I am not sure though.

The Jonathan Dee Tarot that is around now is only called that because that's the author of the book that comes with it.

I don't like the deck. The artwork is horrible, it's a boring deck, aimed at beginners, with little going for it.

(And yes, I know Dr Destiny from the first Sandman comic. Scared me witless.)

You might also want to check out the Vertigo Tarot, which is a deck that has a lot of Neil Gaiman's comic characters in it. :D

Don't know the comic (of my goddess ... I'm getting old arrrrggggghhhhhh! LOL). I had initially connected it with the Elizabethan astrologer-philosopher too, but then when it turned up in record numbers on ebay - like that American psychic shonk Miss Cleo? I think!), my impression was that it was one of those decks put out to rake in the shekels ... not for ya real tarot trollops. Having just had a look-see at the images on aeclectic, my view is confirmed. Mind you ... if I could get it for a few cents, I'd toss the deck and keep the box/tin. Got a thing about boxes and tins. Been collecting them for decades.

It must be the easiest deck and book to get hold of - I bought mine through curiosity - and because it was cheap. I didn't get the tin though :( and that would have come in handy. I wasn't keen on the deck mainly because it uses a mix of Suit cards and illustrated - it doesn't keep to a style.

Tarot in a tin, Jonathan Dee, Shirley Barker.
Cheap deck on ebay.

All the same crap deck and book set.

If you want it, best get it in the tin, at least that will be useful after you have thrown the deck away.

He has abviously nicked his name from Dr Jonathan Dee, the already mentioned astrologer to Elizabeth I.
Which is also where the comic book characters name will have been stolen from.

LOL.
I definitely do not want this one...I was just curious, having heard so many people on this forum bashing the heck out of it. I think I'll save my money, having no desire to haev a crappy deck in my house...much less one that makes me think of creepy comic book psychos.

Thanks Kiama!
I feel like such a nerd now, you know, what with the "OMGComicbooksSandmanNeilGaimanJohnDeescary!"

I swear in real life I'm not really as dorky as I sound here. I like Chanel, singing, rock music, movies...and Sandman Comics :D

Vertigo tarot sounds interesting...I don't know if I could actually read with a comic book deck, but as a collector's item it would be quite cool.

I'm still trying to make my brain realize that the Jonathan Dee tarot is in no way connected with Doctor Destiny. See, I could never own that deck....I would be waiting for it to EAT ME or something, just based on the name.
