I just received it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
It's the nicest TdM deck I have ever seen and it's my first TdM deck I was a RWS girl up til now. I had to get one though after seeing JMD's at the April Tarot Cafe.

I'm so excited I have been jumping around the office like a mad thing and I can't wait to get home and have a proper look through it. Now all I have to do is find a book in English to explain it all to me.

And a HUGE thanks to Jeanette at Tarotgarden for once again suprising me with the speed and ease of ordering :D

Yep, this is a cool deck. Lovely slippery feel, classic pics, just a well made deck. I was as happy to get it as any I have yet seen.

Oh I am so glad for you! Yes it is lovely.

BTW - I would suggest that the ressources on this forum on the TdM are so vast that they are worth at least one book in English! There is a good index, too - and some threads like "Marseille for beginners".

There is also a good site by JC Flornoy, a tarot craftsman in France, which has some elements you might find interesting (in English): http://www.letarot.com. Jst click on the Union Jack at the top.

Robert Place's new book also discusses the Marseille in several chapters.

I hope you find this as thrilling as I have. I was also a RWS girl ;) Now I am slowly becoming multi-lingual!

Thanks for that Helvetica I am checking out the link right now. I

You might want to work with the number and suit method for the minors, and there are some good sites for exploring numbers on the net. Here are two, which were posted at various times by other members of this forum:

http://www.dartmouth.edu/~matc/math5.geometry/unit1/INTRO.html

in the left margin you will find two links to number symbolism.

and
http://www.cs.utk.edu/~mclennan/OM/BA/PT/PT.html#minor -w ich was

made for the Pythgaorean Tarot, but contains a good explanation of Pythagorean numbers, which were well-known at the time the Marseille was created.

There is also a good starter method for the minors, which is to use the meaning of the corresponding numbered Majors (e.g. for the V de Bastons, you start with V-Le Pape and XV-Le Diable) and apply the wider meaning to the suit meaning (so in the case of the V d Bastons, you get - learning a lesson about use of energy, or crossing a bridge to something new, acting to leave one's zone of comfort,e tc - I am simplifying).

But I would start with the AT index on the Marseille: http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=31857

Which has a wealth of reading! There is a very good series started a while ago by JMD called "xxx(name of card) - how may we interpret it?"

And of course - as Umbrae would say - get to know your cards directly :)

Hi, do you have a title for his new book?
I am reading the companion to the Buddha tarot deck now and like his writing a lot.

Robert Place's new book is: "The Tarot: History, Symbolism, and Divination"
ISBN is 1-58542-349-1

Highly recommended!

Thanks, sent an order just now for that book (and the tarot set and one more thing too while i was at it)
Yay for shopping!

I am too looking forward to get my Hadar deck of course!

Little Baron  10 May 2005
You will love this deck!

I am also reading the Buddha Tarot book, Jema, and there is a lot of Marseille references in it, which is great as they are the only two decks I am working with.

Oh my, let me just say that amazon.ca sure are FAST with their delivery. I ordered this one late evening the 8:th and a delivery guy handed it to me just now, 3 days delivery when I payed them to get it to me within 7-14 days.

The deck is so nice! It looks really neat and strong and I love the cream-coloured background and the rich blues and burgundy on the backs.

This is what puts me off getting it. This is the TdM deck that one day I will own but I just don't feel ready to learn a whole new system.

I'm just starting to really get to grips with RWS style decks (it's only taken me around 4 years ;)) but lately I've been reading without books and getting very good results. Up till now I've had to get inspiration every now and then from a book; not very often but regularly enough for me to feel as though I had a very long way to go.
I do use numerology in my readings but I do like those pictoral minors.

Yes, I know what you mean! But I just felt that "one" day I would love to at least give the TdM system a try. So I went ahead and purchased the Hadar. I'm so glad I did- it is lovely. I get a really nice feeling knowing I own the deck and have something to look forward to in years to come (when I learn the "system"). For now, I am happy to just shuffle it each day.

Ian

Agreed. I went through a few of the cards yesterday just to look and see what I could find and what my inital thoughts were and wow there is a lot hidden in these cards which I had alwaus considered *gasp* kinda basic compared to a Toth or RWS deck.
