I'm really interested in the Revelations Tarot that's recently come out. It's so beautiful! And I really like the reverse representations. Can anyone who has this deck give me some technical info about it? Like, how's the cardstock (thick, glossy, etc.)? Is it the size of a normal tarot deck?
Thank you!

Hi Jayde. The cardstock is good. The cards are very glossy and are easy to shuffle--a nice size for your hands. I am finding it to be a very honest deck. The accompanying book is well done. It explains the cards well in clear language without being overly esoteric. It also points out some of the intricate art work details. The set, like the Gilded Tarot, also comes with a gauzy black bag to keep the cards in. It's a wonderful deck for anyone interested in working with reversals. I've had some very potent readings with this deck.

I'm really disappointed. I can't order online (no Credit Card), so I rely on stores getting items in. I ordered this deck from Borders over 2 weeks ago, plus called several other stores. They all said they would let me know as soon as it is in.
No calls.
So I called today. Borders is now saying that something is coming up weird on the computer. That the deck supply is run out or out of print or something and won't be available again for 3 to 6 months! (???)
The other store I called (Bodhi Tree, on Melrose Ave) had said they were getting theirs in any day. 2 weeks later, I call and they can't even find it on their computer now. :(
Barnes and Noble still cant theirs either.
At this point, I'm afraid to have my friend order it off Amazon, because what if I keep getting emails saying "one more month, one more month". ;p I dont want to pay money and then wait months for the shipment.
What's up with this?

and if they have enough after filling their preorders, they can accept a check and ship it to you. It's about twenty-five dollars there, and I noticed the publisher, Llewellyn, is charging about the same amount.

Good luck with your order.

sounds like terrible customer service to me :)
from the forums here, it would appear Amazon is delivering them rather successfully (I haven't gotten around to asking my publisher how they are doing through direct sales).
I remember having great difficulty obtaining things online when I didn't have a credit card, oh so many years ago. These days the banks are asking me if i want to increase my limit (NO!). I'd encourage you to ask your friends to get it for you (knock them up for an early birthday present? lol) :D
I hope you enjoy it. It is a bummer to hear you're getting poor customer service :(

Well, Amazon can't charge anyone involved until they actually ship the item. I placed an order for this item the wee hours of this morning (16 May 2005). The Amazon site indicated that the cards would ship on the 17th. That remains to be seen, but I'll let you know if I have any problems with that. Have you checked to see if the Publisher has a sales option on their webpage? I would suspect that if there is a shortage, the publisher would provide the shortest wait/backorder.

Thank you, Kyrea, for the update. I had begun to worry that I may be waiting weeks or months for these beautiful cards. Although, if there are problems with some retailers, I think I might put in a second order so that I can have a deck to give my ex-girlfriend as a graduation gift. I sent her to the site last night as well and she loved the cards, but can't afford her own deck at the moment.
Until the cards get here, every day I check the mail is going to feel like Christmas morning as a child.

I've only seen the deck from the website, so I don't have the advantage of having used the deck at all...
But it really reminds me of the Sacred Rose Tarot, by Johanna Garguilo-Sherman! Maybe it's the bright, jewelled colours, or the eyes, or the art style itself, but it bears some similarities.
Not sure I'd buy it myself. Looks too much like a clone to me - nothing new. Just a pretty face.

Kiama, I agree!
...But for me that's actually a plus. I was trying to put my finger on why the style seemed so juicy, but you're right.
I'm a fan of the Sacred Rose (though it really took a while for it to grow on me) and am always on the lookout for bold color and artwork that isn't either cloying, mawkish, or out-and-out inept. I think the styles are similar in their palettes and stylization, which really appeals to my illustrated minors gremlin. })
My copy's on it's way through a trade with MeeWah, so I'll be able to comment further in a few...

For me it's a plus too - I didn't mean to sound anti-Sacred Rose in my previous post! I love the colours and artwork on the Sacred Rose... It really stands out at you, almost coming off the card (which is what the Revelations Tarot does as well.)
For the person looking for a good reading deck, similar to the RWS, this would be a wonderful alternative. But for me - I look for something a bit unique and different.
Blessings,

and as I read the book, I saw that the author and artist had looked online at various different RWS-style decks.
Since I had at one time both the Sacred Rose and Hanson Roberts but had winced every time I saw the images--that was my opinion. I found for me, the Sacred Rose's more primitive in terms of Stained Glass in comparison to flowing lines in other stained glass style tarots. And unfortunately there was a squashed look to the Hanson Roberts, as if Muppets and Munchkins populated the tarot-world--just my own sad filters...Ms. Hanson Robert's recoloring of the Rider Waite and her Whimsical are wonderful, just not for me.
In terms of the Revelations, I also saw similarities to the Fantastical, Kirwan (the double-ended 9th rendition of his designs on his website) and other decks such as the Oz Tarot...and yet found the lines quite graceful. There's additional color washes and double-the-designs, so I like what I see...
Best regards,

I'm saving up to get this deck (as a World Tarot Day present to myself) because of the fantastic reversals, but also the Death and Devil cards I just can not fault! Devil looks soooooooo cool which his very classy cigerette in a holder/long naughty cigerette ( I cant work out from the scan very well).
The colours are fantastic, so bright and so very different to my real looking Druidcraft, or the Legend which is always between the worlds and hiding in mists.
A very refreshing deck, and one I have been after for a while :P

This is another deck that I had to have, along with a couple of other decks, although I was sure I would not be adding any new decks to my collection any time soon. Go figure . . !
The deck's images I had seen online are very appealing and the concept, which is similar to regular decks' is also quite different since one can see different images either direction.
I see this deck does have some resemblance to the Fantastical tarot with a few differences other than the theme, this deck has more vivid and purpolish/bluish overall tones- my favorite shades- .
I do not own the Sacred Rose deck but I have seen images of it online, and was not particularly eager to add it to my collection, but I think this one is much more attractive.
But sadly I don't think I would be holding it in my hands any time soon, as receiving it may take a while .

I think that's an admirable quality of any individual. However I hope it doesn't cloud your visions of the bad sides of everything else too. It's all about finding a balance and making an informed decision :)
(ps. oh, and it's *more* than just a "pretty" deck ... it took me 2-3 years to make it. "pretty" takes me less than that time :D )

Received my order from Amazon yesterday, 19 May. I had ordered it 16 May, so the wait shouldn't be excessive. According to Amazon, they shipped on the 17th as they predicted, so I wouldn't worry, unless they managed to sell out sometime in the last few days. You should only have to wait for the shipping. I lucked out living in the capitol region of New York, and my order all shipped from Delaware. The cards are beautiful, and they're quickly growing on me.
I hope you order and enjoy.

Asael, I got my order yesterday too! the shipping is really fast, I'm impressed..gotta love Amazon :) I really love this deck, the art is very impressive and the author of the book is really smart. I did my first short celtic cross spread with it yesterday and I'm very comfortable reading with this deck as the meanings of the cards in the book are easy to understand and it gives me more than I thought I would understand. I love it how he incorporates the meanings to relationships too, which is very helpful. I guess I'll try reading reversals too.... with the Revelations Tarot, it looks very easy to do. My favorite thing about the cards is how it has reversal art too.

Thanks for noticing Lead. When writing the definitions (book) I briefly explored the meanings in relations to the Inner, Outer and Surrounds. They usually give a possible interpretation in relation to internal thoughts, external experiences and relationships (both in terms of work and social).
At the end, I hope you see them as merely a guide/door or a lateral expansion to/of the myriad of possibilities each card:- in that position, in that situation and in that orientation.

I am very much impressed with this deck/book combination. Here, Art meets Intuition beautifully. The opposite images on every card have a complementary quality that shows meditative depth and artistic care. This reminds me of how there are opposite hexagrams to the I Ching. Actually, you can turn a card on its side and see both the up and down images together. Really original! Bravo!

I just got the deck yesterday and I love it. :)
The packaging was very impressive. I was a little confused by the fact that Amazon seemed to imply that the book was hardcover (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ISBN=0738706078/ref=nosim/aeclectic/) however, it came as a paperback.
The cards are beautiful. I'll do a reading in a few days (I always align and clean my cards first with quartz). I've already fallen in love with the deck, though. The energy was just right; it's become my main deck already! :)

Some cards speak louder than others for me. On the ones that bring a sort of confusion I turn to the book. The book itself is different from any other. In a way... it seems like a whole new game- which is good, IMO.I don't like repetition. But currently I feel that I'm not familiar with it at all. I used it that one day and put it back. I like it, don't get me wrong. It's a good addition to my collection. :) I bought it for it's originality, new depth, a new learning experience. I just have to peel myself from my main deck for longer than an hour. haha

I used to drink Milo (the chocolate "food" drink) with milk most of my life for breakfast, but stopped when I had food poisoning a few years ago. The doc told me the lactose would upset me further. Once I was back on solids it turned out I was lactose intolerant cause Milo with milk makes my tummy churn. Nowadays I drink Milo without milk.
However, I still have half a cup of milk in my tea.
I might try having a full glass of milk one of these days to see how my tummy has adapted back to my recent lactose intake.

I just found this thread and am so excited, because I have Revelations on its way, in the mail. I love The Sacred Rose tarot and the Gilded, because of the artwork and the rich jewel tones, so this deck really caught my eye and sounds like it will be an interesting twist, with the reversals and all. I can't wait! Also nice to hear there are some fans of the Sacred Rose, too. I know some people don't care for it, but it was the first deck I clicked with, in the early 80's and have loved it ever since, until Gilded came along and stole first spot! What will happen when my Revelations arrives?

So I am not the only one who puts items in the wish list on Amazon and then stares at them for ages! :)
This deck really has intrigued me. I will not buy them just yet. (I am trying to get into the frame of mind of differentiating between those I just 'want' and those I will actually use to great benefit. Not an easy task!!)
I have been caught in a spiral over the last year of falling in love with cards I see a few images of, buying them, trying to click with them, and then putting them up for trade or sale. I really must break this cycle, but guess I am not the only one who has been caught out in this way.
I have a feeling though that these will end up in the shopping basket at some stage but not just yet. To try and offset the guilt of having bought more than a few decks over the months I have sold as much as I can on e-bay. Even the love of my life doesn't stand still for too long in case I start taking a listing photograph of him too! :D
Just to finish though, I loved this deck and the concept behind what I have seen so far. Well done!!!! I am just curious though - did you realise when you first started out how far it would develop for you?
Take care

Well you see, I'm an extraordinarily quick artist, so the intricate pen work (black lines) was all done on A4 paper each night after work (and dinner) for 3-4 hours. When I finally decided to start the deck I was clearly delusional in thinking that 78 cards = 78 nights (less than 3 months) with the possibility of maybe 2-3 images extra on the weekends.
Fortunately for my sanity, Life got in the way.
But towards end of the 2nd year, I turned my back on Life, for various reasons, and completed the colouring of the deck (each image 3-6 hours on computer) for the next 2.5 months.
I didn't expect it to take so long, but I did know I was in no hurry either. This was because the intention of the deck was never for publishing, but for own use. Getting it published was a very pleasant surprise and a blessing from the guys at Llewellyn :D

(by the way, if you'd like to see every card in the deck before purchasing, you can browse the website - http://adflatus.dthought.net ... I would hate for you to have to re-sell the deck after purchase based on a few selected images)

Sometimes a person just has to turn their back on life for a time...to rejuvenate, etc. Your sojourn seems to have been very productive! I have just began to explore Revelations. I hesitated because I thought I might be put off by the whole reverse-on-the-card image but it isn't distracting at all. And I love the way you described The Star:

When I first opened the package I was not sure: do I like it? Does it do anything for me? And the more I studied the images (in conjunction with the very well-written book), the more I appreciated the artistry, detail, and creativity emplored in creating the deck. I don't use reversals (or, at least, I haven't in the past)--and I don't really intend to now--but this will be a great deck to practice with. BTW, I dig the little black bag!

[quote=FaerieStorm] And the more I studied the images (in conjunction with the very well-written book), the more I appreciated the artistry, detail, and creativity employed in creating the deck.
This comment from your appreciation says a lot -- The clear and deep, discerning, penetrating reflections on the images in the book perfectly join the deck's artistry. To bring in an analogy from the I Ching, the images are like the hexagrams and poems, while the book is like the "Wings." Each enhances and completes the other. The excellence of this book/deck combination is rare. Working with some daily-card meditations, I find each image rich with relevant insight. And I find myself pondering both ends of the message to much benefit. Each image has a yang/yin or dark/light unity, with a kind of holding axis or center, or so it seems to me. The creator of all this got it right in part because he sought original Self-guidance, not self-gain. Then things worked out for him, deservedly.

LOVE the description of my name!! (it actually has other meaning - all is clear on my site!)
I am disappointed though that Revelations won't feed me! I mean it has so much else to offer... ;) of course purchase of said deck will take place in a few weeks (around the same time mr moo has to buy a new PC game me thinks!) - this months spending spree went on rune books :D so no need to fear that house of cards style application will be made!

I recently got the deck delivered and I've yet to open it up because it scares me a bit.. No, really. It does..
Not in a completely bad way since I get a good feeling for the images and have loved the scans I've seen, but because it comes with a book.. A book with good reviews.. A book that is good to use along side the studying of the images..
I'm already reading about 5 separate books parallel now, and adding another would confuse me.
So, before I do free the cards of the plastic wrapping and open the book up, I will finish one of them and put another on "long-term-hold". Possibly finish two of them, but then it would take so long for me to get started..
This is a very alluring deck, and one I feel will give a lot of connections and set off a lot of bells in my mind. So I'll try to clear it out a bit before jumping in, to allow me to take it all in properly.
Somehow, looking at the actual cards feels more daunting (in an exciting kind of way) than looking at the scans online.. It's a nice feeling to have it there, waiting.. :)

My Revelations Deck just arrived and I am thrilled! This is definitely going to be a popular deck for me and will be used well. I haven't even begun to look over the book, but the jewel-toned and stained glass look of the cards are lovely. What I like the most is that by looking at the reversals you get even a better feel of what the uprights mean. Wonderful balance to the deck, too. I don't think any collection is complete without this deck. I am going to be staring at these, all night!

Revelations Tarot FINALLY arrived at the bookstore I frequent. I had special-ordered them about a month or so ago, and it finally came in yesterday. I feel impelled to go pick them up and take them home with me, to join my newly aquired Gill Tarot! Eeeeks! haha!
"It's Raining Tarot Decks". (sung to the tune of "it's raining men!". ;)
ps: I normally don't do reversals at all. Never liked doing that. But this deck is made for working with all the possible nuances of tarot, so this will be a new journey. :) And I love the stain-glass rather tie-dye artwork. It's beautiful!
