Is there a Star Wars deck?? Hoping to get the LOTR oracle deck and it got me to thinking if Star Wars (okay I admit it..I love LOTR and star wars) deck. Was thinking of getting one for my SO and get him sucked into the addictive world of Tarot...and maybe as a bribe to get a kitty...

I like the list. Although my mind cannot be changed that Artoo should be the fool. He is the wide eyed jump without thinking type, at the start of the story. (This would free the mature Luke up to be the Magician, and let Yoda stay as the Heirophant :) )
There is a link here for a star wars Sabacc deck. Although not a tarot, it is based on tarot decks generally, and has 4 suits of 11, 3 courts, an ace that is somehow different to the ones, and 16 paired majors (i.e. two sets of 8).
Apparently George Lucas is not keen on a Star Wars tarot, so I guess one will never exist. Seems rather fussy of him when you look at some of the crappy merchandise that is available...

In a way, episode 4-6 is the fool's journey for Luke.

R2-D2 is The Magician. He has the tools for the job, he finds connections where others do not, and uses brain over brawn
C-3PO is Temprance. He always seek peace and harmony
Yoda is Strength. He is strong, without size
The Star is the explosion of the second Death Star
Justice is Darth Vader just before he throws Palpatine down the shaft.
The Tower is the 1st Death Star, as it was due to this that the new one was built.

Jar-Jar makes a better Fool. He is easily duped. He seems to travel in all the circles of the republic.

Chewbacca would be a good canidate for Strength. He's strong and occasioanlly violent, but also gentle, emotional and intelligent.

Interestingly enough in the star wars universe the game sabbacc (what Han and Lando played for ownership of the millenium falcon) is based on a tarot deck, I believe cups are flasks in that version.
There is the Star Wars deck listed on Aeclectic but I'm sure it was never finished. In it R2-D2 is the moon and C-3P0 is the sun.

how would anakin and his alter Darth Vader be depicted....it seems funny for me to say....but I had thought about that image being depicted on the Lover's Card...he's having to choose which side he would love or hate

Hmm... well.. it really would depend on the card and circumstance.... for example, I have him Darth Vader down as The Emperor, however, young Anakin, might be presented as something else

Here's my list
Fool - young Anakin in a saga-wide deck, Luke looking at the setting suns of Tatooine in an original trilogy one
Magician - Lando Calrissian - jack of all trades trickster
High Priestess - Leia - hmm that doesn't really seem to fit somehow, probably Leia on Endor
Empress - Padme in her Queen of Naboo Regalia
Emperor - Mace Windu - he does it by the book
Hierophant - Yoda - repository of wisdom
Lovers - Han and Leia - an alchemical joining of very different forces
Chariot - Millenium Falcon facing down Needa's Star Destroyer
Strength - The Ewoks destroying the imperial base on Endor
Hermit - Obi Wan
Wheel of Fortune - an image of a space battle
Justice - The Jedi Council
Hanged Man - Luke doing his hand stand force exercises
Death - difficult, Obi Wan's death or Vader's pyre
Temperance - The Senate
Devil - Emperor Palpatine enthroned to coincide with the star wars myth or Vader to be more aligned with jungian psychology, depending on your take
Tower - Death Star
Star - Hologram Leia
Moon - R2-D2, not an idea I can take credit for, I do like it though
Sun - C-3PO same thing
Judgement - Vader throws Emperor into the reactor shaft.... or Luke throws down his lightsaber
World - image of the galaxy? Images of victory celebration on coruscant

Do we need to use to use the same names for the cards? Jabba's fortress could be The Tower, but named as The Fortress. Magician becomes Jedi Master, for example.

Actually, for the 2 of Swords..... if we go into the Expanded Universe (Books, Games, Cartoons, etc).... I'd say Asajj Ventress.... http://www.toytokyo.com/images/ACN-starwars-0.037.jpg
Ah this becomes a tricky question... I'm not sure if I would want the expanded universe included, but then again there are some bits of it I wouldn't want left out.
I've been thinking how tricky the court cards would be. They could end up far to similar to the majors I think.

Mara Jade would make a great Queen of Swords in an expanded universe deck.
Zam Wessel (shapeshifting bounty huntress) would be an excellent page of swords.

Yes! And I am think Callista for the High Priestess because of her duality, which frees Leia to be a Queen. Not sure which one though... wands or cups. It depends which movie/scene I guess.

I found this great article on medieval/tarot themes in the Star Wars movies. http://www.sydneyanglicans.net/culture/thinking/375a/
I liked her ideas on the hangman, especially for Han as the Christ-like figure. A very different take than I'd ever considered.

King of Disks: Qui Gon

King Of Swords: Grand Moff Tarkin
Queen of Swords: Mara Jade in an expanded Universe deck, Sly Moore or Aayla Secura in a film-only version
Knight of Swords: Han Solo
Page of Swords: Zam Wessel or Corde
King of Cups: Bail Organa
Queen of Cups: Shmi Skywalker
Knight of Cups: Anakin Skywalker (circa Episode II) or Kyp Durron (expanded)

I was thinking.......Anakin's mom would make a good Queen of Pentacles.....she was strong yet quiet......she was wise yet still innocent of a lot of the way the events were unfolding......

Great idea... :)
Fool should be Jar Jar!!! :) or R2D2.
Strength could be Obi Wan on the lizard/bird thingy. pretty....

| Arcana |

This is a great thread! And what a great idea to create a Star Wars Deck! I do hope it becomes reality some time. Of course it is an almost classic example of a story of initiation... especially episodes 4-6.
I have a few thoughts about the Major Arcana myself... Some of them I got from earlier posts, I don't mean to copy - I'm just agreeing... :)
The Fool: Luke Skywalker, absolutely! It's his story of initiation.
The Magician: jedi master, maybe a young Obi Wan?
The High Priestess: difficult one, since there are so few female characters (I'm only familiar with the movies) but I was thinking about R2D2... I know it's a stretch, but he/it is sort of a silent, knowing figure...
The Empress: Padme Amidala as Queen
The Emperor: Master Windu (like Shade said, he does it by the book, and he is a authority figure among the Jedi)
The Hierophant: Yoda, the wise one
The Lovers: Han and Leia
The Chariot: Milennium Falcon
Strength: Luke exercizing the Force
The Hermit: old Obi Wan. I think we all agree on that...
The Wheel: ?
Justice: ?
The Hanged Man: Han in carbonite (good one, FlashFighter!)
Death: Obi Wan sacrificing himself to Vader
Temperance: ?
The Devil: Darth Vader, no question, from Jungian perspective like Shade said; Vader is Luke's shadow
The Tower: exploding Death Star
The Star: I tend to agree with Shade on this one again, Leia's hologram, it's sort of a guiding star, isn't it?
The Moon: Endor
The Sun: twin suns of Tatooine...
Judgement: I prefer to look at this card as Rebirth... and from that perspective the birth of Luke and Leia would be fitting maybe...
The Universe: the galaxy

How about High Priestess being Padme as the Senator. I think it fits.
Empress.... pregnant Padme.
Yes... she's my favorite character... though I'm more like Leia. lol
Temperance could be C3PO. He's very balanced, and reminds others to think about everything.
