Hi Everyone!! I'am so excited to be a part of this community, I've just been a member for a few days and yesterday I found this neat little shop with literally dozens of Tarot Decks....the first one that I was drawn to was OLD ENGLISH TAROT.....I was'nt sure about which deck to choose at first, and after holding and looking at several, for some reason I kept referring back and being drawn to the OLD ENGLISH TAROT...so that is the one I ended up purchasing.....does anyone else use this desk...if so how do you like it ?

Welcome to AT, Earthangell!

Have fun with your new deck - just play with it until it's tired and wants to go to sleep ;)

Welcome!

How great for you, earthangell! I have been drawn to this deck too but have not purchased it. I found myself wanting to go visit that "neat little shop" you described!

If I find more links, I'll post here.

Pretty neat deck...and I think you might recognize some of the pictures in the tarot?

Looks like this pretty deck could use a neat book!

Regards,

Welcome earthengirl ~

I have that deck. It is quite beautiful. A member here, Shalott, has written interpretations of the minor cards, but you may not need these.

You can use numerology, elements and your own intuition and knowledge to help you read the minors.

Hope you enjoy your deck and look forward to reading your posts. :)

I own the deck. It has a mystical feel about it. It will take time to become familiar with the pip cards. It is a wonderful deck to begin your learning.

I don't know your deck. Actually I have never heard of it. But that is not surprising as there are over 1000 decks out there. LOL

But I just stopped and checked it out here. It looks like a nice one, pretty images.:-)

I know how excited you are. I started about a year and a month ago and have 15 decks now. I remember when I got my first (The Haindl).

All I can say is I wish you all the joy, enlightenment, pleasant surprises and the improvements to my life that my decks have brought me.

Tarot is a joyous lifelong learning process. I've found it's affecting and improved every area of my life. But it can seem confusing a bit at first.:-) There are many different ways, but in the end you'll need to find teh one that's right for you.Let us know if you have any questions we can help you with. :-)

Oh, that deck is on my wish list. ;) Very pretty.

Congrats on your first tarot deck! Old English is a lovely deck, with gentle pics and a lot of simpliticity. The LWB leaves a lot to be desired and I think you will find yourself searching for a more completely illustrated deck, not far in the future. But the Old English has a wonderful feel to it-a nice way to introduce you to tarot and the major arcana. This is a great way to familiarize yourself with the pictures on each card-what story they are trying to tell you, symbolism, etc. And easy to shuffle! Have lots of fun with it!

WELCOME and CONGRATULATIONS on your first deck! I don't have the Old English Tarot but I remember the excitement of working with my first deck. I, too, went into a local shop but I took the recommendation of the proprietor and bought the Hanson-Roberts deck as my first. I am still very fond of it though have moved on to other decks over the years. Enjoy the adventure!!

Earthangel,

Congratulations and felicitations!

Excellent that you connected so immediately and viscerally to the deck. It will make the process of getting to know the deck that much easier and energizing. I don't know if you're one for journaling, but recording your initial, gut-level thoughts about each card can be incredibly illumnitating with a new deck (esp. before allowing the inevitable other influences to creep in).

The LWB does leave a lot to be desired, but I think there's an on-again, off-again study group for the Old English here in the forum. And if you're looking to "study" a lengthier take on the deck, check out a webpage (by a fellow Aeclectician if I'm not mistaken) that has a fairly detailed examination of the Old English Minor Arcana here:
http://home.earthlink.net/~e.ishmael/oldenglishtarot/index.html

Don't worry too much about the "semi-illustrated" Minors. One way to look at it: by working with less overtly scenic pips, you'll feel more confident should you ever choose to work with Marseille or Thoth style decks at a later date.

Best
