yaraluna,

if you post in the Oracle Deck Forum, you will certainly find that Lynda, the creator of the deck, is very helpful!

She graces the forum by her presence.

Love

The cards don't have pictures on them. There are 12 cards to represent zodiac signs, and 30 cards to represent degrees of those signs. So to arrive at a Sabian Symbol, you would choose a Sign card and a Degree card, and thus arrive at a Sabian Symbol (the 17th degree of Aries, for instance), which you would then look up in the book. The Symbols as given in the book are written descriptions of a scene or event, but aren't depicted artistically.

I actually didn't know this until I e-mailed Lynda, the author, a few years ago, and she kindly filled me in.

Thanks, Lee, for answering this question. I answered it over in the Oracle Deck forum before I saw your reply here.

I know that people really like visuals, but this deck asks that you formulate the picture in your own mind... it's a word image instead of a pictorial one. I've long considered getting someone to illustrate them, but I have had serious reservations about doing it as everyone has rather different 'takes' on what the Symbol looks like for them.

This Oracle is very easy to understand, but it's more about letting the words impress you than actual visuals.

I don't like to blow my own trumpet (but what the heck!!) people love this Oracle (I didn't make it up, but have taken on the job of reinterpreting it for our modern times).

To tell the story a bit clearer, a clairvoyant 'saw' these images in Balboa Park in San Diego in 1925. An astrologer, Marc Edmund Jones, sat with this extraordinary spiritualist medium, Elsie Wheeler. She was crippled with arthritist and confined to a wheelchair from a very early age. She had an amazing psychic ability, which Marc Edmund Jones recognised. Jones had a set of 360 blank white 3" x 5" cards, each labelled with a degree of the zodiac i.e. Aries 1, Aries 2, Aries 3 right through to Pisces 30. He would shuffle the cards and place one in front of her (neither he nor she knowing what sign or degree was on the flip side). She would see something in her inward vision and he wrote it on the back of the card. He would discard that card, shuffle and pull another.

They did the entire 360 in one day. Working out that they took 8 hours to perform this feat, she saw one image every minute and a half.

That's how they got the 'word phrases'.

I hope this helps!

Greetings from DownUnder (Sydney)

They are very good word images too. I just have to read one to see it!

Today, my Symbol was Gemini 24 - "Carefree Children Skating on Ice", which is not only eloquent, but visually so.
