are tarot readings done with internet programs valid? Has anyone put them to the test?

What kind of test would you use? :)

the test of time, whether the predictions did occur as stated..

The Tarot does not predict the future. It only offers choices and viewpoints and what might be if patterns continue. Using an automated tarot reading program will set forth in me changes that might or might not lead to what that program predicts. Just like with normal readers. :)

Yes, but my question is whether an internet reading is as valid and reliable as a card reading, or whether it is just a random computer program.

And my answer is that it is a contemplative device. So the answer is Yes. It is mostlikely valid for a reading, and it is a random program. :) Tarot is about the reader, or interpreter.. not about the random method that the cards are chosen by.

Daisy,

Please dismiss what follows as the ramblings of a grumpy guy.

When I was young, back near the dawn of time or near enough, I knew a girl on the other side of the city who had a Magic 8 Ball. This looked like the 8 ball used in pool or snooker, black with a white circle on top with an 8 on it. The bottom was sawed off so it formed a base to sit on.

What you did was, you stared at the 8 and formed your question, then shook the ball up and inverted it. Through a slot in the bottom, out of the inky blackness of a dark liquid, the answer floated up on a little rune.

So, the one time I got to use it, I asked, "Does Mary Jane" -- a really hot number in the fifth grade -- "like me."

So I shook and inverted the ball and waited the answer. "Not in a million years, meathead." Tried again: "Don't be a dummy, ding dong." Again: "Not in your wildest imagination."

Finally, on about the 47th shake, the answer floated up out of the mysterious black: "Maybe, if you grow another head."

I remember being elated. Hotdog! Maybe Mary Jane really likes me! Unfortunately, I never acquired a Magic 8 Ball of my own, and without this magic tool (I'll bet I could'a become a great 8 ball reader) Mary Jane never gave the slightest indication she knew I was even alive.

Daisy, I've read your many questions, and if you are old, like me, you are probably a hopeless nimcompoop suffering from too much crippling intelligence. However, if you are young, you may be on the threashold of an exciting tarot journey. Just don't expect to find the answers floating out of the inky black. Least not everytime.

Do you read for yourself? Okay, you shuffle (randomly generate) the cards and lay them out. So does the computer. The skill involved is the skill in reading the results. Some readers on these forums have so much skill (or intuition, whatever) it is scary. But I don't think even they could give you absolute answers. Maybe. Not always.

thank you for your wise input Talisman. I'm in my early thirties, to put an end to your spec. about my age.
Tarot has been a very valuable predictive tool for me, so therefore run the danger of becoming obsessive/compulsive over it. I cannot keep a deck of cards in my house, or I'll keep asking the same questions until I get the answer I'm looking for. Tarot can literally drive me mad.
