'Lo all,
Did'ja ever open up Aeclectic Tarot forums and feel delighted at all the open folder symbols on the left?
I find that I real every single post. Treasures are often found in posts that don't sound interesting at all.
I never go "below the line." That's those forums like Astrology, Chat, etc. Then, Solandia moved the trading section "below the line." Used to read all those, too, even though I have nothing to trade and no interest in trading.
If someone mentions a deck I haven't seen, or haven't looked at in awhile, I go to the deck reviews and look 'em up. 'Course, I always end up looking at scans and reading reviews of decks in the vicinity.
Then, when you've squeezed everything dry, did'ja ever hit the "refresh" button, and begin again?
Maybe you've been here too long if, when you started, there were 450 members, and you happen to notice that now there are 550 members.
Too much! Just one more time around, and then I'm gonna quit for the day. If you work at home, and you work when you wanna' 'cause you're your own boss, this is insidious, believe me.

I'm a little worried that I'm going to end up 'refreshing' all day and reading each new post as it comes in, too. I'm getting a computer at home (finally) so I'll be able to get on the Internet there instead of at work. I just have this feeling that I'll have my computer on all evening and all day on my days off, hitting 'refresh' whenever I walk by the computer and pulling up any new messages it found!
You're right...it's way too dangerous! I think I'm going to set myself a time limit and get out the kitchen timer whenever I log on. Of course, I'll probably keep turning that timer up so I can have "just a few more minutes...then I'll stop!"
Peace,
Melvis

You are so right Talisman! I have a little clock by my computer and now I have trained myself to select a stop time when I start reading the Forums. Addictive!

I try to go through each forum once and then try to ignore the 'new posts' thingy. Even so I can spend a couple of hours on here, sometimes just reading and not posting. Thats when it gets hectic when I haven't been here for a couple of days :) And I try to read all the new posts and catch up in one visit lol

You're not on your own Talisman: I constantly find myself refreshing and starting again, hoping there are new posts in a forum I read less than an hour ago.... Etc...

I didn't know about refresh..have to try it...I just kept hitting the back button (takes a while).
I think the worse part of this forum (LOL) is my ever growing "I WISH" list..have to tell you.. I love the suggestions of new decks. Just added World spirit to the list.
Ejoy your addiction (I do) LOL

I visit a minimum of twice a day ...for almost 2 hours at a time.
I know, I know.....I should become a moderator, but sometimes this PC gives me such agita! ( heartburn, if you're not Italian). If I had a new PC ( and a better internet connection - I live at the end of a phone line - literally!), I should consider it- I spend enough time here!

Lately I have been religiously checking the First Aeclectic Collaborative Tarot Project page too - just to see if there are any new cards there...
Thanks to ArizonaGirl for making my day today...

Hi,
I usually check once a day for new postings and only in the folders that interest me (usually all tarot folders, trading worldwide/Europe, so I can skip USA and Australia), spirituality and chat.
I have given up new members (too many), though and usually greet them when I come across their postings.
I wanted to buy me a computer for home next year but with a broken down washing machine I can skip that, too.
Guess I am no addict to computer but to getting new decks for my collection (hey, what do you want, I am a non-smoker and non-drinker, so I have to be addictive at least to one thing :D

Hiya K! not a "Fool" question at all :) 'ROFLMAO' means Rolling On Floor Laughing My Ass Off ~giggles~ ... please feel free to use it as from what I understand it is an acronym used in in chat just like 'LOL' means Laughing Out Loud.

A friend of mine who just joined the forum (DeLani) told me yesterday that she's spending way too much time on the forum - that's it's addicting. Ya think??? ROFL I've got her hooked now! hehehehe
I try to give myself a time limit, but like Melvis I keep saying "Oh just a couple more minutes. I've got to check....." (fill in the blank) :)

I can truely say I am a computer addict! An internet addict. I used to read every single post under every catagory! Not neccessarily every day. But I would just mark down the exact spot where I left off, then pick it up next time and continue from there , so as to never miss anything! I never hit the refresh button however. But recently these boards have GROWN! And I've also been occupied with other things in my life (There are other things in life ?? !! ) . These boards seem to have outgrown my ability to keep up SO ..........I'm "skimming" . I hate to do that , maybe I'm a perfectionist and am afraid I'll miss something! Tal is right , there IS often good information on threads that don't sound interesting at first.

What does everyone mean by going "below the line"???
|

Lian;
It's an inside joke. If you'll look at the Index you'll notice that the sections are divided into groups. The trading section is at the top then there is a space or "line". Next is the tarot section, etc, etc.
Once, in the distant past, one of the members said that when reading the posts, he would never "go below the line", meaning that he never ventured into to sections that didn't have to do with tarot. It kind of got picked up as a catch phrase, in large part due to the efforts of Kiama (she's always been a trouble maker).
To understand why we find this so amusing you have to understand that the person who never used to "go below the line" is a member of the forum named Talisman.
Talisman is something like 314 years old in dog years and lives in a cave in the side of a cliff. He spends his days surrounded by dusty old manuscripts (he, himself is a dusty old manuscript) and make his living writing tall tales with quill pens that he whittles out of feathers he steals from a goose in a nearby village.
The only electricity in Talisman's cave is provided by 43 hardware store extension cords strung together and plugged into a current bush. His computer, which he affectionally calls "Mr. Crashy" is actually two Dixie cups on a string with a lawn mower spark plug duct taped to each end. (An Talisman thought I wasn't paying attention!)
Instead of redeeming his time as his occupation would demand, our hero found himself screwing around on the internet reading posts ON THIS FORUM!! In a pathetic attempt to justify his non-productive behavior he once said that he limited the time he spent reading posts by not going "below the line."
Now isn't that just a whole lot more than you really wanted to know?

Oh, Blue,
Two things: Either you are blessed with extraordinary psychic abilities, in which case I am very impressed, or, you really were paying attention, in which case I am very flattered.
In either case, like Faunabay, I "literally LOL."
So, spot on, 'cept maybe you creditited my 'puter with a higher level of technology than I think it deserves. And my current "cave" is an apartment smack dab in the center of a great city. In the words of Dorothy Parker, "it is hardly large enough to lay my hat and a few of my closest friends."
In addition to not going below the line, am trying -- helped along with the aid of my cranky computer -- not to post so much. Maybe only once a week would be a good rule. So many great posts just to read!
But, in response to a thread in Tarot Cards titled "Sanctum Santorum" in which AmournrA, who seems very bright, and who contends Tarot originated in Egypt, I am thinking about a thread to prove they originated in Lyonesse.
That's called "cross-pollination" of Forums. Or being very windy. (Blue was very kind not to mention the windy part.)
Anyway, I giggled. Er, ah, LOL.

~giggles madly~ ohhhh that was good Blue *LOL* ... I had not had such a good laugh in a long long time ~giggle/snicker/snort~
Talisman, when you read this (a week from now I suppose *LOL*) I would love to see your theory of the Tarot being originated in Lyonnese to add on to AmounrA's discussion in the other forum. I wonder if there is anyway that we could come up with a theory that the Tarot originated in Atlantis thus its history was lost when Atlantis sank *ROFLMAO* ...

Jewel - Wouldn't it be funny if everyone posted a different theory on the origins of tarot? If you didn't know any - you could just make one up! ROFL
Talisman - Any progress on photos? Would definitely like to hear theory on Lyonesse origins of tarot...

Aahh! I have just come back from a fantastic camping holiday down south (half way between Dunsborough and Bussleton... which is in the south-west corner of Western Australia... overlooking the white sandy beaches and a calm blue ocean...) I have not even finished unpacking my car and I was straight on the net... in the forum... This is sad.

Talisman, I once lived in an apartment in your city by the bay. Modern technology is all around you - Silicon Valley is your neighbor. Why aren't you in possession of a more reliable computer? I live - literally - in the middle of nowhere in a town (could it be called that?) of only 2500. I have e-mail. Surely you could, as well.
One day, there is going to be a mad pounding on your door and several of us are going to be standing in the hall demanding that you let us in to fix your computer.

Indeed!!! ~chuckles~ My ficticious dissertation on the origins of Tarot will be based on the theory that Tarot originated in Atlantis ~giggles~ ... perhaps I will post it when I conclude my mental "research" ~giggles~ ... I think that by making the connection between the Atlantians and Minoans (who did trade with Egypt) I might be able to make a reasonable argument *ROFLMAO*. I will have to ponder this furhter ... it would explain the prescence of Tarot in both Greece and Egypt though *LOL*.

Well , Lemuria is rumoured to be an ancient civilization that existed at roughly the same time as the ancient fabled civilization/continent of Atlantis,OR even before Atlantis. And I've read that aliens from another planet visited Lemuria. Maybe the aliens brought the first tarot cards? I have no definative proof of this , however , I conclude that tarot cards Could have originated on another planet!~

p,s, The ancient Egyptians (and also ancestors of th american and south american indians) had their origins in Atlantis. How do you think they learned to build those pyramids? Seriously folks , even WE with our 21 st century technology are not able to build pyramids THAT mathematically solid and perfect. Think about it.
