I signed up for the new session of "Learning The Tarot" online course at Barnes and Noble University which starts next Tuesday. I was wondering if anyone here has taken it before and if it was good or if there is anyone here taking it next week.

I took the course once. Joan is a wonderful lady with a lot more patience than I have. I thought the Barnes & Noble sight was pathetic. I hope they have made some changes. It was very difficult to follow a thread. Also, I was in with a group of people that evidently refused to read the assignment or even look at the book or follow directions of any kind. Joan ended up answering the same question a zillion times over. There was problems with the quiz software and many people spent more time complaining that the computer counted one of their questions wrong even after Joan had acknowledged the problem and told everyone to give themselves credit for the question. I got real tired of reading note after note of complaints. My word, the course is free! Bottom line, Joan is great, the book is wonderful, if you have good classmates you’ll be fine, but if your classmates are uncooperative, just read Joan’s comments and ignore the rest.

I've taken it three times. I think it's very well done. There is a lot of information, and it is presented pretty well.
The assignments can be time consuming, which is why it took me three tries to get through it.
Joan Bunning's book is very good, and the course is free, so go for it!

I'm just finishing the current one. I've mainly been reading it rather than doing the exercises but I've found some good stuff in it.
Hope you enjoy it :)
All the best,

Hi there,
I took the course and thought it was good for a total beginner like me so I would recommend it, especially as it's for free. However, I found the do-it-yourself approach on Ms. Bunning's webpage better. Check it out:

I haven't done the B's and N course but I visit the site, link in Soraya's post, and follow the course from there online. I can work in my own time and pace and also print out reference work if I need it :) You don't have to buy the book either, its all there on the site.

I've enrolled right after reading this post! :D
I have no previous experience with B&N nor with Classes, but I went through the www.learntarot.com "solo" path and had a lot of fun and learning. That was a while ago.
Now I feel I want to reconnect to cards, do things properly, therefore I need a new way. However, I'll keep my eye on the solo-course!
P.S. I downloaded it!

Hi Pollux! I am currently signed up for the Learning The Tarot course. What name are you going under on the BNU website? I have already learned alot in taking the course and there is many people in the course who have started study boards on Yahoo. I think I will probably sign up for the next session too so I can study the class even more in depth!

Hello Pollux,
I signed up for the class again. It's incredible how much I've already learned from taking this class. I still have 3 more lessons to go then it will be the new class. I wanted to take it again because there is so much information in it and I can spend more time on the things I want to work on. See you there.

MM,
I also have taken the course. I agree that it is very hard to follow the threads of conversation. This course was very helpful, especially since I am a beginner.
The book has good info and Joan is wonderful.
Enjoy!

I took the course the first time it was offered. I thought the course was great but the chat board was baffling to me.
There were more complaints then theory or practicum from the students.
Of course, there were the usual glitches that any new program has, but the complaints got to be too much and I never went back to the discussions.
The second time went smooth as silk.
I think it's a great idea for you and Pollux to be study buddies. I probably would have stayed with the course the first time if I had someone with whom to discuss the topics.
Have fun

I'm there as well, and very glad I am. I'm getting a lot out of it.
The message board -- well, that's another story. I do all the assignments but don't both ther post them. I guess I don't want to add to the clutter ;-)

I thought it was great! But I totally ignored the conversation threads though because I thought they were too slow and difficult to navigate.
It was very helpful to me to have someone assign readings and homework. I have many tarot books at home, but never had the discipline to do all the assignments on a regular basis.
I think I'll sign up for the class again in a month or so!
