Hey guys,
Today I went to the Occult bookshop and when I went in I first asked to see the Celtic Widsom tarot. Then I asked to see the Morgan Greer, but they only had the German version. They won't be getting the English version for two weeks.. and because I live about a half hour away, I decided to buy the celtic wisdom.. so I did. $60.00 with tax.
Just opened it now, and I'm very disappointed.. the cards are huge. I just know this is a deck I won't be able to read with, it's just a deck of expensive, very awesome art.
The suits are all changed and the cards are huge, and the images don't relate to the meanings I'm used to.. this is disappointing!
I wish they had the Morgan Greer in English.. I just threw away $60.00

Now don't say that. There's 2 things you can do. First, remember that there is an exchange here on this forum. You can probably find someone who will buy them off you if you really want to get rid of them. Second, give the cards a chance. Go through them, read the book, get to know them. There was a reason you went for them in the first place, see if you can find that.
I have small hands, but I can work with big cards when I like them. Hard to shuffle, but great for readings as the querent can see them. Try reading with them, see how they look laid out on the table. If you still regret the buy, try taking them back to the store. Say, "I thought these were one deck, but I was wrong, they're another. I like to return them." If no returns, try to find a buyer here on line, or someone who will trade two decks (maybe even a Morgan Greer) for your Celtic.
Feel better now? :)

Yeah, what Thirteen just said. Also, consider using this deck for meditation or pathwork. Some of my larger decks work very well for spiritual growth. Just learning the symbols and concepts of this deck could help you with other decks and readings.

I highly doubt the store would let me return them because I opened it.. it's possible I could do an exchange, not sure - HOPE SO.
The art is awesome.. don't get me wrong, it's what made me want it. But when I took it out, it didn't feel like a tarot deck to me, it felt like some abstract adaptation and all the changes to it was too much for me. Also, since I still use books to help me with meanings .. the book has like a few keywords and a sentence for divinatory meaning.. I'm not that independent yet and I can't even rely on the pictures for help because they are so far off from RW.
As far as pathwork and meditation, I'm really not into that.
But I'll see if I can exchange it.. if not, bah!

I know what it feels like to bring a deck home, open it, and be totally gutted with what I saw. The problem with buying Tarot decks though, is that it's not very often that you have the opportunity to see all the deck before you buy it, or look at the book aswell... Something you can do with all other stuff, like books, cloths, cooking appliances, etc... So, until we get the deck home and open it, it is often very difficult to say whether or not we really like it! That is also why a few stores do let you return opened decks, as long as they are still in good condition. However, there are no rules about it, so its really up to the discretion of the store itself. If they do let you return it, I believe standard practice is to put it in the sale, or something.... My bookshop did that with quite a few opened decks, and decks that they ordered but arrived minus the box or somethng. So, guess who bought them all?!
Anyway, my condolences to you, New2Tarot, and some Kiama kisses to cheer you up!
