years accumulated tarot experience at aeclectic

with all the people we have at aeclectic, i think it would be interesting to survey the forum to look at our individual and combined experience in tarot.

DAMN! I thought the poll was about how many years we'd had on Aeclectic! So, I voted for less than 3. Then I saw that there was an option for 25 years, and worked out that Aeclectic hadn't been up that long... Then it clicked. This was about how many years experience with Tarot itself. DOH! So, just add five years to the final total. Sorry! *Kiama tries to wake up*

Thanks, Diana!

I've voted for my one year or less :D

MeeWah  09 Mar 2002
I voted for "10 years or less" because I think that is about how long I've been actively using Tarot seriously, but I am not sure.
I acquired my first Tarot deck decades ago when I was 19, but didn't focus on it since I was busy with cartomancy (divination using a regular deck of playing cards) & numerology & other means. Compared to some of the other folks, I am a "newbie" :D

Meewah can you give me some info on cartomancy is it just like tarot or are the meanings different? thanks

truthsayer  10 Mar 2002
sorry if my directions were confusing in anyway. since this is the best tarot forum in the world, i thought that knowing how much tarot experience we represent as a group would be interesting. kind of like positive advertizing about how wonderful it is here and how extensive our knowledge base is. i'm surprized at some of the totals all ready. looks like we have a lot of combined experience and we've only gotten in a small portion of votes in so far.

I am still not so accustomed to the new layout, that's why I am late with voting.

Jewel  11 Mar 2002
~giggles~ well this was a hard one for me *LOL*. I guess I would say I have 7-8 years experience, and I could not decide if it was the "5 or less" category or "10 or less" ... I was cought in the middle there. I finally voted in the "5 or less" so if that was not the right place someone please move my vote to the right place.

Love & Light,

Mateo06: I already replied to your query elsewhere; however--
Cartomancy is very different from Tarot by reasons of the types of cards (a regular playing deck of 52 cards as opposed to 78 cards), the symbols & the meanings.
I have found some overlapping of meanings with the 52 pip cards & court cards, but that may be because I bring some of the cartomancy influences to my Tarot work. I have been able to read successfully with a regular deck & using numbers, the latter much in the same way I do for Tarot.
I think cartomancy can give one a basis in Tarot, but some of it is so different as to be like using a different language--dialect may be a better description. For those who may be interested, I think it is worth examining to get another view of divination.

I had the same problem as Jewel, I couldnt decide if i was5years or less or 10 years or less, since i think it was like 7 years ago I started getting interested, but I went with 5since I think thats when i got serious. Truthfully, like 10 years ago, I had the game for the original Nintendo called Taboo, itread Tarot cards for you :) I handcopied the deck onto index cards and did readings for kids at school heheh, and someone said i had porno because of the lovers card. The deck was created for the game the lovers had the man facing forward and the woman facing backwards side by side with the opposite persons hands cover the private parts lol. I had all kinds of strange little fortunetelling devices, on was called fan-tell, it had all these coloredsticks, you picked anumber out and attached them to a metal handle and it made a fan, then you interpreted the pictures on the sticks with the book. It was fun hehe

if you have 12 years then it would be 15 years or less. if you have 6 or 7 years experience then it would be 10 years or less. if you have 4 years then it would be 5 years or less. i was trying to fix it to show a wide range of experience w/ emphasis on less than 5 b/c i think most ppl here have less than 5.

does that help?

1 year or less ;)

Jeannette  18 Jun 2002
My computer is saying that the poll is closed. So, is it too late to participate? Or is my computer being glitchy?

Methinks its too late Jeanette. Oh well. I've been practising the tarot for almost 4 years now.

Jeannette  18 Jun 2002
Ah, well. Add me "virtually" to the twenty years or less category -- it's been twenty years (and approx. 500 decks) this year since I started seriously collecting and studying tarot...

...And yet, what I don't know about the subject still far outweighs what I do. 'Tis a never-ending process...

what's the total? i'm to lazy to do the math because i'm on summer vacation! :P;)

SharonElizabeth  22 Jun 2002
I voted 15 or less, because I started reading tarot when I got my first deck in my early teens, even thought I was using the lwb, I was able to do some comprehesable readings. It wasn't until more recently that I found a better way to read the cards in books like learning the tarot and tarot for yourself.

I find it interesting that there's such a even distribution of answers. It just goes to show that people of all levels find help and guidance in these forums.

tigerlily  22 Jun 2002
I can't vote! This is the third or fourth time I tried (in different polls...) So I'll just state that I have 16 years of Tarot experience and now I feel old LOL

tigerlily  22 Jun 2002
Oops - the poll is closed? that would explain why I can't vote .. hey, it *is* late over here
