You will recognizehim as the designer of the Rennascence Tarot and the Minchiate deck. He was an amazing guy from what Ive heard of him on the net, Mary Greer has invited everyone to burn a candle for him.

and the POMO tarot, too.
WOW! How old was he? What a horrible loss for the tarot community.

Im not sure how old he was, he died of melanoma, it seems hes going to have another deck released, based on "the ship of fools" woodcuts, whatever that is

Well, *I* feel like a royal a-hole; a few days ago I emailed Brian Williams to ask him if he had any PoMos, or if there was a recommended place I should get one...
He also wrote the book for the Light and Shadow Tarot, which is a woodcut deck too, and is very near the top of my wishlist. This is a big loss; I only hope his passing had some peace to it...

44? EEEEEK!! He's younger than I am!
At least he was able to create a body of work within his lifetime that will be remembered by all.

what a handsome guy! and only 4 years older than me! sheesh! of course, i had my near death experiences 3 years ago. maybe i'm good for a little longer. i think i'll go ahead and buy the light and shadow deck. no telling if it'll stay in publication now. i so feel for his family and his tarot family. it's too hot here to light a candle right now. i'll just have to send warm thoughts.

I've just been discovering all his decks online over the last week or so, for the first time. I wish I could have conversed with him somehow. I'm glad he had a good relationship with his fans and I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to be one to him while he was alive. The more I think about this the sadder I am...

By all accounts, Brian Williams made Tarot an abiding passion and mission in his life, and he has left a wonderful body of work to continue to inspire and delight us.
There is a very nice tribute page up on the Tarot Passages site, at:

he is my favorite creator of tarot, because he has done such impressively academic work on the remaissance era of tarot and cartomancy.
creating and sharing beautiful art is the utmost way to live forever.
and so it is with our brian williams, most assuredly.

The breadth & depth of the artwork speaks for the genius behind each deck's conception.
Brian Williams' candle burned brilliantly, leaving his distinguished work as a lasting tribute to him as well as to Tarot.

It seems I have been in the dark... I don't know who Brian Williams is! I'd never heard of him until now... :(
Seems I've missed out on alot, judging by what you guys have said about him.
