Sure, sit and shuffle it for awhile, you'll feel better, once feeling better you may want to ask how to resolve the prolem with your teacher.

Last week, I had a bad argument with someone on the net (not an aeclectic nettie, family business) + I was really traumatised by the results of French presidential elections but shuffling my two fave decks helped me release the stress and focuse positively about building solutions.
First you get focused on shuffling and it reduces the physical tension by doing this repetitive move. Then, as I believe it, you get positive vibrations and constructive energy from the cards. Then of course, you can take one/several card(s) and it just opens your eyes and puts thru your thick skull (at least thru mine ;) ) truths, critics and advices you would never take or even bother listening from ANYONE.
I was able to write a nice apology to the person I was mad at because (referring to my journal) I got the Page of Cups who told me "to apologize to someone that I hurt and respond with caring rather than anger". The next day, I got XI Justice, I interpreted it as a positive reinforcement of what I had just done: making the right decison, a difficult but fair one (he, I am a scorpio, how easy to you think it is to apologize ????) and my karma as well as my horizont looked far much brighter ... I got XII The Hanged Man the next day ...

I really think this depends on the person who is using the Tarot and, also very important, the approach you choose. I've only been using the Tarot for readings and although I do find it relaxing I also think it can be quite exhausting too. My experiences learned me that I really need to be relaxed in order to get a better reading. The relaxer I am the best results seem to come out. However; I do find it relaxing to fiddle with the cards, shuffle them, study them, etc. So in that aspect I guess they do can relieve some stress.

If I'm having a bad day, I'll sit and shuffle my Spiral for a while then start looking at cards in random not doing a reading just looking at the cards - this always seems to make me feel better but it only works with the Spiral, I think its because the cards are detailed and colourful.
I've tried it with the Rider Waite, Hanson Roberts and the Robin Wood and they don't make me feel any less stressed and Diamond increases stress lol (look at the online scans the cards are even brighter). :)

when i feel stressed i like to get out one of my decks that's visually attractive and soothing like the wheel of change or wild spirit or legend arthurian. then i just shuffle and look at the cards. i probably lie on the couch and just focus my attentions away from my tension. the colors and images draw me away. i'm a visually oriented person anyhow so beauty is almost always soothing to me.
rws style decks are more reading decks. i don't find them as soothing so i avoid them when i need to relax.
