If you have participated in giving readings at a “Psychic Fair”, I want to know what it was like for you.
Was it wonderful? Terrible? Why?
What worked and did not work for you. What did others do that did or did not work for them?
Would you do it again?

I have done the fair thing and found it to be too money orientated...The cost of a stall is far too high...most of the people with stalls were purely in it for the money..which is ok I suppose but not for me...I found that i was limiting clients to 10 minute readings..just so that i could do enough to cover my expences...not good! At the last look, one of the fairs that i attended was charging £140 for a day!!!TFOOL

I've done several fairs, and some are different than others.
Some of the fairs I've done were *very* angel-oriented (which I really don't get into), and I found that off-putting. Here are all these blue-haired angel ladies and then little me, looking all dark and way too young compared to the rest. Needless to say, I didn't do too well at those types.
Now, the store I work at has intuitive arts days every 2nd Sat. of the month, with just 3 or 4 readers. Most of us know each other, and we're ecclectic enough that no-one feels out of place. We all usually do about equally in terms of profit.
I really do agree with what was said about the money thing - charging so much for a space that you have to do like 20 readings to break even! And I *really* dislike putting readings to a timer. I like to connect to a client who wants to open up, and not worry about money like that. Most of my readings go rather quickly anyway (around 20 mins.), but the idea just seems wrong to me. Plus, when that timer goes off, it jolts me out of my intuitive state. I hope if any other fair readers are reading this, they will please be courteous and turn off or down their timers. It is really annoying to the other readers.
So now I'll share my "worst" story: one intuitive arts day, just me and two other readers, and I'm sharing a large table with another reader. She was a very nice woman, but talked with a very *loud* voice. I'm pretty quiet, so I had to almost shout to be heard over her. To top it off, she had a very loud timer setting right next to me that went off every 15 mins. Even my clients commented on how difficult it was with her loud voice and annoying timer. I wanted very much to politely ask her to turn it down, or speak more softly, but I didn't want to be confrontational.
Here's to being a "psychic prostitute!" :)

Ive done a few actual psychic fairs and some variations on the theme. I never had to "rent" space, I was always invited to read. The ones Ive done were set up so that there was a "pool" of readers. The querants could either choose someone specific, or the next available reader. Then we were all paid at the end of the day based on the number of readings we did. I kind of prefer that the money be handled that way. I hate to be the one to ask to be paid. I found the continious reading to be exhausting though. I generally got paid pretty well ( about $15 per 15 min of reading). I do that rarely, to help pay for my card habit..LOL
I have also been a "Draw" and THAT was fun and REALLY good money. The owner of a local Pub had me set up "shop"( read - lots of nifty props) in a front booth by the door and window. People walking past would come in just to be nosey about what I was doing. I'd charge $5 or $10 for readings and she'd get business. Oddly enough, Id have a purse full of money at the end of the night there, and wouldn't even have noticed, cause it was so much fun talking and playing with the customers. by the way, drunks tips REALLY well if the reading turns out to be happy. LOL Too bad the Pub closed.
If you want to try doing the "fair thing" but arent sure about how you feel about the money, try doing a benefit first, you get the experience plus the warm fuzzy feeling from donating all the money to a charity. get in touch with your favorite local charity and ask if they would like your services at their next event. Usually fundrasing dinners or parties will offer a great opportunity for crowds.
have fun!
