I thought I'd insert this thread from the "What do you use Tarot For" thread Kayne started.
Does anyone use Tarot for Spellwork and how? Is it more for just meditational purposes or for specific spells?

There is candle magick included with the book that accompanies The Celtic Dragon tarot - but I've only had the deck for just over a week and haven't really looked through the rituals yet. There are a few of the spells that look interesting though and all you need are the different coloured candles :)

I have Tarot Spells by Janina Renee. Basically it uses tarot cards layed out in specific spreads as a launching pad for visualisations, although that makes it sound deceptively simple. It's a lot more than that.
I find it very powerful to lay out a tarot path in my spells.

I've used them once or twice, and I like it. I would love to get the book Tarot Spells by Janina Renee.

Although I am a solitairy practitioner it took me a while to think about using tarot spells but the thread about the Renee book (Tarot spells) convinced me to buy it and then I tried out the business spell and it worked! I then tried out the money spell and it worked too.
Just to make sure I tried out the "starting an new business spell" for a friend of mine who wanted to get a foothold in a new job and lo, she got the possibility to show her paintings in a gallery-bistro!
All this convinced me that the Renee book is worth every cent!

There's another book called "Tarot Spellcaster : Over 40 Spells to Enhance Your Life With the Power of Tarot Magic" by Terry Donaldson that's also very good. I like the visual cues that the cards give me.

I've used the cletic Dragon book for healing of a friend after her wisdom teeth surgery. But because I couldn't let the candles burn out, the most painful day was averted. She felt fine that day, and her step mom was amazed. So, I use tarot for spells too.

cause i am looking for something to put some energy into my work, which is kind of unispired , and i have been experiencing such a tarot revival of late that it seems a natural flow to add the tarot cards into spellwork. Here is the catch 22 < I feel the need to do a spell for my husband a sailor who is about to cross a nasty peice of water at a troublesome time of year (lots of sudden storms) << I think he is about to head out...he is not in my country right now so I dont know exactly when , just in the next 48 hours....so i cant really order a book , like in the previous posts, although i think i look into it
Any ideas Any one ?
thank you as always

Is the Tarot Spellcaster a newer spell book? I haven't heard of it before.
There's also a book called Tarot Magic by Dorothy Morrison. Its ok but the spells usually have you marking/folding or doing something else to the cards being used. I just can't bring myself to writing in black ink across the face of a card, or sewing 2 together.

Maybe you could use the 6 of Swords to signify a water journey, and in Janina Renee's Tarot Spells book, she has you lay out a cross w/the significator in the middle. The 6 of Swords (or Chariot) could be at the top, 14 Temperance to the left of the sig.; 17 Star to the right of the sig.; and 4 Wands beneath the sig. This is her Protection spell, and it goes into more detail in the book w/affirmations, crystals, candles, etc. But I'm sure you could personalize it and it would be even stronger because it would be YOUR spell with YOUR intentions! Best wishes, Jeanette

Thanks for the reply, this is the kind of thing I was looking for: and hopefully its going to spark me in the right direction...the significator ? now i was thinking the Chariot being his soul card, as well as travel or Knight of Wands . Hmmmmmm. comments welcome, thanks again for the suggestion
I have been having such a creative block on all levels this really helps :-)

Catti, maybe you could lay out the cards you choose on a blue plate or cloth to signify the ocean?

i am going to repeat it again between tonight and tomorrow night, he should be setting out Thursday afternoon....I think i will add gardenias and rosemary from my garden to my altar, i have a map o fthe canal he will be crossing to , check this out
i will goand get a blue glass plate ( hope i can find one at the dollar store ) and place it on top of the map. The plate is a really good way to contain the spell and i can place the other items on my altar around it easier.
thanks myrrha and jeanette for all your help
your ideas have really inspired me
i am so glad i found aeclectic tarot!

I use the Tarot in spellwork as a foci. So far all the spells I have done this way have met with great success.
The first was a spell for "swift justice". A very close friend of mine was robbed and the chances of finding the culpret was slim to none. The spell was written in such as way that the person would "pay" what was just and fair for his theft. Within 6 months of the robbery the person was found and he was ordered to pay my friend the cash equivalent of what was stolen; no jail time. (He was a minor.)
The 2nd time was to help a friend find a job near her new school. I don't have my notes with me but I believe we used the 9 of Pentacles. This spell took approximately 1 month to come to fruition - including not just a job but a residence on campus.
When using the Tarot in spellwork I find the card closest to the effect I wish to achieve. As I perform the spell, I channel my energies into the card then, at the end of the spell, release them by slamming the card on the table.
I also have a deck specifically for spellwork; the Mythic Tarot. Since I tend to work with the Greek Pantheon this works well for me.

I know that in inner heart, I may gear my expression toward a specific intent and write it out in a poem. Or read a poem out loud that expresses what I cannot. Some of the selections above are very traditional in an old English Victorian mode, so I could see other people finding snippets of their favorite songs instead.
My agreement to this idea is this assists or enhances my mood and intention. Similar to listening or singing along with a song that works for my self-expression.
But I know that my wishes aren't always in harmony with the best results for everyone, so along with me aiming intention, I have to also add another few words, "If this is for the greater good, may this....(or something similar...)"
I found the idea of suggesting poems fascinating for both meditation and focusing intention...that Yeats poem was also suggested once to a friend getting married. I don't think she chose it, but I remember she did say it was a treasured one in her private notebook.
I also once heard a woman say she wrote the words to a Fleetwood Mac song (I saw my reflection in a ___ pool, written by Stevie Nicks) in the back of a favorite photo of her and her husband and it's a favorite of hers.
So maybe the radio wizards or troubadours are casting modern spells with good and bad songs...
Rambling Mari
who will check for good Yeats focus poems...

I'm not actually looking for "info", I was just curious as to what people are using their decks for apart from divination.
I think the whole fortune teller thing has given Tarot a very bad rap and I've witnessed often the abuse Tarot has been subjected to at penny pinching "new agers" (oops I said it).
I use my deck for several things. Meditation, further studies, readings, spells, story telling, gaming.....
But I am in awe as to the wealth of knowledge contained within.
