An interview with the creator of I Am One Tarot

Thread originally posted on the Aeclectic Tarot Forum on 27 May 2002, and now archived in the Forum Library.

MystiqueMoonlight  27 May 2002
Here is the interview with Maya Britan the creator of the I Am One Tarot.

Solandia, I hope this belongs in this forum.

1. Describe for us your best artistic attributes

answer: The world we live in is a Creation and all life expression within it - is Art.

2. What type of person are you?

answer: A blind person, committed to that which no one else can see...I often disregard the obvious...Not nice, but real.

3. Did you study art and who was your greatest influence during that formative period?

answer: I am self taught...not through art school. Traveling the world since an early age was a great exposure to my many expressions of art, yet ..."Impressionism" in its purity was most influential.

4. As a child growing up what were your aspirations for yourself?

answer: Mathematics and fashion...I wanted to be the most beautiful and sexy...scientist?

5. How do you see the world today (as compared to when you were growing up) and do you think the current environment is detrimental to the future of our youth or not? Why?

answer: The world today is going through an amazing transition while splitting (again) in two directions: one portion is going IN and the other - OUT (star war versus lord of the ring...maybe). This process started when I was little and at the time seemed like a great thing - only now, it is going through a time clash where future and past are catching up with one another - at the present. time. No, there is no future for the youth...they will have to get aquatinted with all times and make their self-decisions just like all of us - now!

6. Name 3 things you love

answer: I love Aton, Music, and Style.

7. Name 3 things that concern you

answer: People...I am concerned with people...the ones who support ignorance, the fanatics ones, and especially the people who believe they know what is good for other people.

8. What is your favorite color?

answer: Red...and White.

9. What is your esoteric (spiritual) influence?

answer: The Hebrew Numerology and Geometry...and then...Christ the man.

10. Do you read the cards and if so what was the very first deck you used?

answer: I am a clairvoyant from birth...but in order to develop the "I Am ONE" I had to read cards for almost 15 years. The Thoth deck was my first...

11. Who do you believe was the greatest influence in the 20th/21st Century and why?

answer: The one held responsible for the invention of "the 0.99 cents" (do you know who this one is?). This is probably the greatest most important influence on our human psychology (every where we go - we pay a sum amount that ends up with 0.99) as where a multiplication of Nines (999) is a Universal indication of a very long cycle coming into completion. And since our mind responds naturally to numbers (association with the metrics) - we are all pretty much ready by now - for the BIG finale of this cycle.

12. What or who influenced you to create the I Am One Tarot deck?

answer: The 22 numbers of Hebrew alphabet have been of great interest since I was 19 years of age but, I did not know where to put this knowledge until - an out of print book named "The Word of One" by Rosalind Sharpe & John Cook - came into my life. These people of the Sixties channeled the instruction material for tarot, but couldn’t find the one artist who could actually paint the cards... Rosalind put the work of One in my hands just before she passed away 2 weeks after...you may like to read the whole story of One at: http://iamonetarot.com/review.html

13. How long did this deck take you to create? From conceptualization to creative actualization.

answer: It has been almost... 16 years.

14. Which card in your deck was the greatest challenge for you and why?

answer: In order to make these cards I had to live through each and every one of them, while rapidly switching states of mind and character yet, the Deliverer was most difficult as the central invisible point of the number 8 (look at the card). It reveals a whole different meaning of the term "infinity". The personality of oneself was fighting the passage through the ZERO, the "no thing" and in this case a ‘double zero’ which forms 8 as the self strives for its own surviving and existence). Ya, I had to die many times during the artistic process...The self is truly - the only enemy we have ever had...

15. Which card in your deck do you feel closest to and why?

answer: # 21 The Virgin - is my life story, as she access the center of the ZERO made of 22 ROSES (listen to these 2 words ZERO & ROSE and see they sound alike in reversal). Thus she travels through all 22 Master Tarot lessons from the central point - out and back in, (the old pendulum technique). That’s a whole new concept of angelic traveling from point 1 to point 0 (while we form angels) instead of our means of traveling from point A to point B (as we only form a straight line that doesn’t exist anywhere other than in our own imagination). One needs to know where One is at...Before one goes places.

continued from previous thread

16. The I Am One Tarot is intuitive, provocative, modern, ancient, artistic, surreal. When creating this deck what was your goal and do you feel you have achieved that?

answer: Yes...my goal was to create something that is not found outside of self (as most things of the world we know - are), but is a reflection of all - from within One self...I wanted to find the door that will open a way beyond the prison walls. Have I managed to achieve my goal?...I don’t know...as only time reveals...

17. Why did you choose to rename the Major Arcana in the manner in which you did?

answer: That was the reason I had to start the work with The Word of One. These titles had been given by an ancient source of transformation (aton) especially designed for our time and age. The people who channeled the material never knew what it meant...I had to translate the whole book into Hebrew and than to numbers...until I finally came to terms with its message...It is time of REVERSAL. We must approach unity by canceling out all arguments that are still running into our Physical; Emotional; Mental; & Spiritual awareness. I am not talking about peace...I am talking about completion! Gathering! Being One...for ALL...

18. Overall is there a message in the I Am One Tarot which you, as they creator, am trying to convey?

answer: Yes...this deck is designed to promote an individual character in man and woman who are by all means self-centered. The message to such Ones is not give into the old concepts of war which are tearing our world apart (good and evil), but to rather move towards self-knowledge. We are rapidly coming to an end of cycle in man’s history where all individual experiences must be complete before submitting unto the One source from which they had been borrowed (the zero)...a long, long time ago. Only than, would we will be free to move into the next life expression or else we’ll go back to this bloody war where no One wins... We do have a choice, though we just don’t know about it...well, let’s get to know.

19. The court cards are refreshingly evocative of the emotional and intuitiveness of the Minor Arcana they represent, what inspired these?

answer: This is an archetype family portrait founded by an Atonist priest name Maya during the late 18th Egyptian dynasty. It holds many secrets related to the human’s rulership and its blood line that keeps rising up through our social structure even to nowadays. The artwork was done in a dark little room filled with music, paints, incense and candles... in order to provoke a faded memory to come true - rather than making a plane to go by...It effects all in that same way where you don’t really know what kind of memory YOU are keeping back from yourselves

20. Can you explain why you used the "Two Headed Serpent" for the suit of fire and "Pear of Tears" to water?

answer: Two Headed serpent reefers unto the awakening of the Konduliny within a perfectly controlled avenue of the 7 centered Chakras. This is a basic snake format (cosmic geometry) made of pure energy, that is being extracted from the ONE LIGHT, and when is fully aligned (see Citadel #16) - one serpent’s head will reach the top of pure intelligence (heavens - the crown chakra), and the other head will be fully awaken in the bellows (earth- hell), thus able to control the lower sexual battery of plus/minus division (electricity). If not conducted in this manner - the whole spiritual experience will turn back into another tower of eruption (destruction) like the tower of Babylon then - and, the twin towers of New York - NOW. In the upcoming book I’ll get more into the Thermodynamics studies of controlling light through optical lenses (or the third eye for that same matter).

Pear of Tears reefers unto the awakening of the heart when first realizes that the world we all loved once, (Atlantis, the Mermaids & Fairies) has sunken under water...(the depth of the subconscious mind is consider to be dark and watery). Our mother planet Earth, is crying salty tears over the loss of her love...filling up oceans with pear shape droplets of sorrow...The fruit of heart was never an apple (New York) but a pear (Paris), as the real twines (love & hate) IS a PAIR (sounds like "pear-is" - Paris - when reversed) of oppositions...It is so hard to explain everything in one paragraph, but this is the very foundation of the upcoming "I Am ONE" Tarot book.

21. The colors you chose for the Minors are unique so far as traditional Tarot have been based, can you explain why you associated those colors to the elemental values of these cards?

answer: I choose the 4 basic colors to represent the 4 elements from an artist’s pallet point of view...but not only that. I divided time to 4 associated periods (they had been mixed up after the tower of Babylon collapsed) where as nowadays, we are to collaborate all historical achievements from all times being and - submit the work as a ONE body of work (I followed the basic pyramid’s formula all the way up to the apex). Keep in mind that our former human civilizations had already done major work! Thus, we are but the deliverers and the Ones to finalize something that has being going on since the beginning of time.

Well, here it is - the RED suit stands for the achievement of the spiritual race people: the Native American, Hindu, a portion of the Orient & the Mayan who attributed SOUL- ENERGY to this world. Their knowledge is still running on the inner circuit of our genetics as it passes into our generation through the blood line.

The BLUE suit stands for the European legacy including the Arthurian round table, Excaliber (the straight blade of a bloody sword has been curved to an intelligent discussion tool), the Greek philosophers, all of the Knights, Saints & the Anglo-Saxon mental warriors who attributed a real intelligent THOUGHT to this world - preserved in written words and books.

The GREEN suit stands for Atlantis, the Fairy/Mermaids and old Sumerian mythology (Greek mythology had only borrowed its inspiration from it). The Emerald Planet - Tiamat, and the athmospherians (fish with wings) who attributed the visual Arts and BEAUTY of style to this world - preserves to one’s imagination.

The YELLOW suit stands for the Egyptian yellow stone on which they wrote hieroglyphs describing science and precision of measurements to configure a whole Universe, and also a portion of old China (the yellow race) who attributed a strong and healthy BODY to carry on all other knowledge - which still erects through its architectural brilliance of the past and even nowadays.

22. Do you have anything you would like to add/express in general to Tarot readers?

answer: Yes...The word Tarot in old Hebrew is equivalent to Tora (the Bible which refers to the geographic place of Babylon or Byblus) but in plural. Thus indicates many Bibles or - a whole set of biblical teachings in which Tarot is all about. The Tarot is an old code language that was established long ago by our elders, in order to open a wider tunnel of communication with our Universal relations (after the world had split during the Atlantian catastrophe). When reading the tarot cards, please, do not limit one’s mind only to the present/personal situation, but be open to that which is beyond...If fear comes first - then deal with fear. If love comes first - then deal with love...Either way, know in your heart that there is only ONE Creator in and out there, and it will always present itself at the moment for being OF THE LIGHT.

Man’s heavenly commission is a NAME, thus we are entitled to give a name to that which is at hand, but we also deserve to be presented with a name of that which we we are being confronted by.

Love is free will,

I Am.

I just think its great that the creator of this deck was willing to give an interview! Did you get this yourself, MystiqueMoonlight?

Kiama

MystiqueMoonlight  27 May 2002
:D I spoke to Maya directly. She is a very insiteful person.

I just thought an interview about the creator and the cards would be worthwhile for all of the members. I hope it is.

Maya has suggested that we do a live chat with her online and she may add some of that material into a chapter of her book.

I'm not too sure how to go about this though. :(

Kiama  27 May 2002
That live chat thing sounds excellent! Maybe we could all set a time and date to meet up with her in the Aeclectic Tarot chat room?

~~~*~~~
I skimmed and I lost my personal little universe
of issues that are not issues:
I went through it so fast that I have not gone to the link yet:
I am so far past fascination that I forgot to post a COOL
reply.
Therein somewhere I found a new sense of touching the electric (Aecletic)
hotwire-
which I will see at the source
of the cave
of the thread I needed so much at this MOMENT~
of the . . .
Enough from me- this is something I need to see more of-
I hope more threads are this generative,
thanks mystique~
I am actually in a kind of trance at the few parts I got word by word . . .I think you are tapped in to the ( no semantic word play here-) source from which
all inspiration flows.
Words are such small items . . .especially as response to what I think I just read.
If I go over it carefully tomorrow and get all objective and english major
on it then I'm probably skewed. . . our first ideas are true and should be left alone~~~
Your thread is **** (deleted by the PC web idea police) ****
that I've seen on here. . . including my own two threads!
More, please,
~*~ alison
So I'm not a tech person...do we have to make like an anouncement that there will be a chat at a specific time on a specific date an just go into the room then...altogether?
As for the interview... being an artist I am always very interested in artist's work so I am always "harassing" people. I would be happy to do it again if the occassion arises.
You could post a thread on Aeclectic, telling everyone when the Chat will take place. (It would be advisable to set the time so that the majority of people will be awake!) Also, you could email or get in touch with whoever you wanna interview, to let them know, and let them know how to get into the chat room... I don't know if you have to be a member of Aeclectic or not though... I don't think so... Anyway, then, when you enter the Chat room, wait for the interviewee to arrive, and just fire away!
MystiqueMoonlight  27 May 2002
well then we best get this under way. I'll keeo everyone posted.
Blessed be
Liliana  27 May 2002
Please make sure I know when this chats gonna be, I need to be there, what she said in her interview made so muh sense to me.
I find it interesting that I said that I felt the I Am One deck would like a red bag, and red is the artists favorite color.
And I've got to love her blending of Christian and non Christian ideas,being ecletic myself :)
I cant wait for the book.
Too bad she cant reprint the original book the work was based on
:THP
Lee  27 May 2002
