welcome to aeclectic, kazz!
as to your question, there are several things it could be. chances are you aren't doing anything wrong. there isn't any right way to do tarot really. are you reading with your deck a lot? sometimes if you do a lot of spreads for yourself or others in one sitting, the cards run out of juice. there are times you need to give the cards a rest for a few days. i remember when i was beginning that there were times that the pattern of the cards didn't make any sense to me. i attribute it to lack of experience but there are times even now a pattern won't make any sense to me. just a fact, jack! ;) it's going to happen to all of us. are you feeling anxious when you read at times? if you have high expectations of yourself or are uncomfortable w/ the person you are reading for that can dry a reading right up. often a block is due to one card being a blank to me. to try jump starting a reading, i check out a meaning of a card in a book. this often helps. it also helps to consider the card you're drawing a blank on as blocked energy in that area so continue w/ the rest of the reading.
i hope this helps. most of all, don't be so hard on yourself. it's normal to have an off day.

Thanx Truthsayer
I will take your advice. and yes i am very hard on myself as i still tend to think i am not doing it right or whatever but my biggest problem is no confidence and therefor i feel i do not have "intuition"

Begin at the beginning.
If you are starting, a Celtic cross will be too much. Try it in a restaurant, and you will go bonkers.
I learned to read in restaurants many years ago. It is a great place to learn shielding (what some call psychic self defense). You ain’t shielded, your reading will be scattered.
If you are reading for one person, all bystanders must remain at least four feet away (a little over a meter).
At the beginning, you should be doing smaller spreads…three cards (That’s why folks who invented numbers place the number three, before seven which comes before 10)…(LOL).
Give that a shot! It will work.

“So how do I take what I know, and use it to ‘tune in’ at later times?” I have been asked.
Here goes...but you may not like it.
Throw out the LWB (burn it...really burn it, [carefully, i do not want to hear about another aussie fire on the tele, they will of course talk about how it was started by ritualistic satanists]).
Take all your other Tarot books and store them where you have
little access to them.
Start with three card spreads (do lots)
Then go to five card horseshoe (do lots)
Then go to seven card horseshoe (do lots)
(About this time, you think I am daft)
Here is the rub...you already know what the cards "mean” now, you have to listen to what they say.
Half the quarrels in this world come about because one side or the other simply is not listening…and I am asking you to listen to the cards.
I am asking you to look in between the cards.
Which is why we start small and work our way up and forward.
It is the lessons and the discipline you learn with working with the little spreads that helps later in day-to-day situations.
If you are diligent, scrying can be a later step.
“Tuning in” is a learned ability. Discipline is what makes it ‘happen’.
Best of luck on your journey…and smile damnit!

Hi Kazz
I think some people here can explain this better to you but i give it a try.
Grounding: ( this is one way there are a lot more. I learned this when i was a child hence the tail, you can replace is with a three or a rope)
Sit on a chair or floor with you feet on the ground. Imagine a tail is growing from the end of your spine. Let that tail grow longer and longer until it come's in contect with the middel of the earth ( imagine a rock or something) and than make a knot.
i now it seems a little childish but it works for me :)

Umbrae: :D Thanks for some really great advice, I had been thinking about that same issue too, only I was thinking of how to tune in on people over the internet, but I'll go there on a separate thread. Anyway, I think all of us beginners have a tendency of getting impatient, and wanting it all to happen RIGHT NOW!!! - and then getting disappointed when it doesn't happen like that... Well, at least I do, and I find loads of confort in having experienced readers tell me I'm allright, and don't be in such a hurry...! :)
Kazz: Welcome to the forum! The LWB is the Little White Book that is included with the deck. They usually describe card meanings in a very summarized way, and that makes them pretty much more harmful than useful. So torch it baby and let the cards speak for themselves! If you're a beginner (like me) you might want to start out with some sort of reference material, and not ONLY the cards themselves, but then do yourself a favour and get yourself a "real" book instead of relying on the LWB!
The best resource of all (in my opinion at least) is this very Forum. People here range from beginners since 1 week up to people with 25 years experience, and everyone contributes - it's really great!! :D There is a Tarot Basics section here that I encourage you to check out, it has tons of information. I'm working my way through it myself very slowly (I have to translate the stuff while I'm at it), and I learn tons!
See you around the boards!
Light and love!
Jenny :)
