When I do a reading for someone, because I have more than one deck, I ask them which deck they want to be used. I'm just wondering if that helps the readings at all, becuase I feel if someone can connect to the cards, their reading will be more accurate. Am I mistaken in my thoughts?

When I read for somebody who's there with me at the time, I always ask them to interpret the cards from what they see in the pictures, so I do think that them choosing a deck they can connect to is helpful, however, most of the time it is the Robin Wood I use, cuz all the people I read for IRL can connect to this deck and read it pretty well.

I think you're far from mistaken, quite on the contrary. Different decks can really have different 'approaches'. I found this hard to believe myself but quickly had to change this opinion when it started happening to me.. For example; I own 2 decks myself (I don't do readings for other people btw) namely a Mage and a Rider Waite deck. When I'm using my Mage deck I tend to fan the cards and while closing my eyes go over them to pick the cards I need (I'm also using a different spread, but thats besides the issue here). I started using this approach since I really did not like the idea to stack the cards and simply pick one from the top.
So... After using my Mage deck for quite a while I finally discovered the Net, this forum, etc. and ordered the Rider deck I mentioned above. When I first got it I slowly started using it (first evenings simply looking at the pictures, getting to feel the cards, and keeping it on my night stand during the night) and to my surprise the 'fanning' didn't work on this deck. No matter what I tried I simply did not feel the urge to pick a card out. After such a session (after say 30m - 1 hour) I tried the same thing using the Mage deck and bingo; (working) results.
So after a while I decided to shuffle the cards, stack them and simply pick one from the top on the Rider deck. I also re-shuffled the stack whenever I felt like it during readings. At first I shuffled the cards quite often during readings (after picking up a few cards from the stack) but nowadays I simply shuffle them once and grab everything in order.
So here you have one example; the same person, 2 decks and 2 different approaches to use them. If these sort of differences exist then I'm sure you're doing the right thing to let the others decide as to what deck to use. Just make sure you have everything worked out to use the chosen deck to its full potential.
