Music To Tarot To. . .

Does anyone have a "soundtrack" for their tarot decks?

It might sound like a strange question, but I was thinking how often I am humming a tune when shuffling my tarot decks. The other day I realized there was a pattern to the tunes I was humming, because the pictures I would see would remind me of that tune.

For instance, one of my moon cards will inadvertantly trigger me thinking of the line in Dark Side of the Moon (you know, "the lunatic is on the grass")......

Hello Violet Gargoyle,

I'm fairly new to tarot, however from time to time I'll look at a card and snatches of songs will come to mind.... It first registerd for me when I got the Faerie Oracle caused it happened several times in one sitting.....

When I do spreads or study decks, I listen to a lot of Crosby Stills & Nash and Cat Stevens. All right, my secret's out -- I'm a flaming hippie. :| Actually any of the music that I grew up hearing as a child seems to help. As for individual cards, I have a song that I associate the Six of Swords with... that's it for now...

I sometimes play a Celtic CD in the background but Rachmaninow will also do.

I don't have a "soundtrack" for any of my decks. While doing a reading, I sometimes play music, either celtic, native indian, aboriginal or "water" music (music with sounds of water and dolphins), depending on what mood I'm in.

:THERM there is a cd for the Rohrig Tarot but i havn't heard it :TSTAR

zorya  29 May 2002
as i like to be completely focussed when i read my cards, i would find music to be distracting. there are enough other distractions. i wouldn't want to add any.

Zhritza  29 May 2002
There was originally a CD for the Baphomet (Giger) Tarot as well, I'd imagine it would be expensive to get now though :TDEV

Hmmmm. Never tried it, but Portishead or Zero-7 might go quite well...
Could be freaky if you're reading professionally, but it might be ok for reading yourself...

*adds to things to try at least once list*

I was searching the web and happened to stumble across this... Music for Osho Zen Tarot... Check it out (and you can even listen to some of the tracks...)

Personally I prefer silence while doing a reading...

Violet Gargoyle  30 May 2002
I usually dont play music while I read, however, I still get these picture associations that remind me of songs

You can imagine how much fun the Rock and Roll Tarot might be for me except that I havent read with it yet.

I stumbled across a CD of tracks inspire by the first 11 card of the Major Arcana (Fool to Wheel) and bought it... It is very relaxing to listen to whilst reading the cards, and some of them you can tell instantly which card they were inspired by, without knowing what number track it is! Tha Chariot started playing whilst me and my boyfriend werre talking, and we both looked up at each other, smiled, and said 'CHARIOT!' We were right... It was unmistakeably the Chariot in its sound: Really triumphant music...

I usually prefer silence, or quiet music... I use to enjoy a bit of Goth Rock, but now I find it very difficult to write down my interpretations of the cards when I have the words 'God is dead' blurting out through my head from Marilyn Manson... Sorry Marilyn, you're no good for reading Tarot cards! ;)

Kitaro is my ultimate favorite to listen to while working with the Tarot or not. I have the Osho-Zen CD and its nice, but still not as nice as any of my Kitaro CDs. Nature sounds, and Reiki music are also nice for me when working with the Tarot.

lunalafey  31 May 2002
I like to have some 'gentle' music in the background. One time I was doing a reading for a friend with mt native american deck, we just happened to be already listening to such music.
I drew the Chief of shields, Chief Joseph. At that same moment, the song that is the story of Chief Joseph and his tribe begins to play. We sat in silence and listened.

Generally, I prefer silence--hard to come by at my house. When I do use music, it varies.
The classical favorites are Handel's Water Music Suite; Bach's Brandenburg Concertos, Gregorian chant.
The "contemporary": Delerium, Enya, Clannad, Sarah MacLachlan, Pink Floyd, Moody Blues, Emerson, Lake & Palmer's version of Pictures at an Exhibition, Queen.

the rohrig cd works very well as a background. once into the cards (any deck'll do-- the cd is NOT rohrig specific) the music sort of goes away, but seems to cast a circle of sorts. it's on of those ' oh, it's not playing anymore' type of things. if you know what i mean

Oddly enough, I can listen to anything while I'm reading, if I am focused, even Rob Zombie won't bother me. I like reading with music, when I remember to turn it on.
Although, when I start reading for others, I am thinking quieter, more atmospheric music would be good - maybe even those nature-sound CD's.

Starfish  07 Jun 2002
I like to listen to kitaro, Lorenna McKennitt, Yanni, water sounds. It's lovely, light listening and listening to this type of music (New Age music) helps me focus and feel my cards.

Now that I think about it, The Tarot of the Saints has been reminding me alot of the first Enigma album....

RedWood  10 Jun 2002
I don't listen to music while I read..my house is too noisy...Enigma I love..I think I will have to try that..

Houklani  11 Jun 2002
I've always listened to a wide range of music, and I can do the same while I'm reading. So far I've mostly stuck to Seo Tai Ji, a Korean rock/techno artist, but Alanis Morrissette, Beethoven, and Drunken Tiger will all work just as well.

Forgive me, but I'm really not a nature music-type person. :D

Smiles,
Houklani
