Hey everyone. I heard something about keeping a tarot journal. If you keep one, tell how you write it. Also, what is the purpose of keeping a Tarot journal in the first place?

Hi!
I read about this in an earlier post, I believe. As a novice, I decided to keep one, just to get the hang of reading and deciphering the cards. At the very least, I try to pull out one card each day, write down what my interpretations are and in the evening, write how that card affected the events of my day, check to see if everything matches, etc. Also, helps to study my cards a little better.
I'm sure other people have clearer explanations, as they've been doing this much longer. If journal writing is a passion, like it is for me, then it shouldn't be very difficult.
Hope this helps a little...

I'm a novice and I write down a lot of stuff. I guess that's my version of a tarot journal... ;)
I have a notebook that I used to make notes while I was going through Joan Bunning's book. I wrote down things like the meaning of the court cards, spreads etc. And now, whenever I read something interesting, for example a new spread or useful tips posted on this forum, I also write that down. So this notebook is my personal reference book.
Apart from that, I write down every reading I do. Sometimes just the spread and the cards, sometimes I add my thoughts about the reading. I find that it can be really useful to recheck some readings after a while. For example, a few weeks ago I did a few readings for myself which didn't really make sense to me. I just wrote them down and didn't think about them anymore. Last week I looked at them again and suddenly it all made sense. I guess that sometimes, when reading for yourself, you're too close to the subject matter or you're too much involved to be objective and it's difficult to see the meaning of the cards.
I also draw a daily card and I write those down as well. It really helps me getting to know all the cards.

At this address http://www.rglobal.net/user/nodntap/ , you have a wonderful example of how you can do a tarot journal using "Daily card worksheets". You can print the worksheets from the "Worksheet section" (he he) directly from the site. I also printed the tarot card worksheet which helps you studying in depth one card at a time.
It is brilliant, that's what gave a direction to my tarot interest/passion that what going in every directions before this... Now I am using a method that suits me really and I can see the improvements, the schemes, the themes that come back etc. Couldn't do without a journal anymore :)
On the same site, you can view THE WHOLE Robin Wood deck and I printed that out too (twice : normal + reversed) to glue it on the "tarot card worksheets" and study my RW deck in depth.
Highly recommeded site * * * * *
OK Chunky, I bumped the threads I got from the search results : one in Reading Tarot, the other one in Talking Tarot.

Wow! That really is a good sight! I'm gonna print off those worksheets for my Tarot Journal!
Thanks Kissa!

i've got two tarot journals going now, one progressive and transient where i write down readings and commentary, and one permanent where i write down my little flashes of insight about individual cards, systems of numerology, spreads, and ideas for the fantastic uber-deck i will one day commission (after i win the lottery).
for the permanent journal, i went to my local office supply store and bought a very small daily planner (about 4 inches by 5 inches) with rings like a three ring binder. i took out all the planner stuff (address book forms, calendar, etc) and put in about 120 sheets of blank filler paper. oh so handy! it fits in my purse with my deck alongside it, i can change things around when i need to, and it's well bound and will last for a long time. highly recommended!

I'm a novice, albeit quite intuitive. I have begun a tarot journal following similar patterns mentioned above: selecting a card for the day. What I do is write down my own responses to the card. Then I check its textual meaning in a Jane Lyle book. So far, I have been very encouraged for I have found my own responses to the cards almost right on when compared with the experts. By doing only one card a day and reflecting on it a few times during the day I think I'll remember the initial meanings so at least one day I'll be able to do a reading without being mundane about it, i.e.: looking up meanings in a book. This method is very good for developing confidence in your own abilities.
Namaste,
Debins.

My psychiatrist suggested my tarot journal when she discovered I was learning the skill. Depression has been a major presence in my life, even with anti-depressants. She had all ready told me to keep a daily journal to examine my depression-related issues. Sometimes I have trouble identifying what I'm depressed about (in my birth family, admitting to emotions was a major mistake, so I learned to bury them deeply) and the daily tarot readings help me to zero right into what emotions I'm not recognizing. Except for fun I've not read for anyone else. Tarot just helps me to live a happier, more depression-free, life.

Although I am no tarot novice I still love keeping a tarot journal, in fact, I even keep 2 different tarot journals: one is my own tarot journal in which I collect the material for what will turn out as my tarot book one day and the other is the journal of my tarot circle in which I take down notes on which decks we discussed, spreads we did, etc.
I can highly recommend keeping a tarot journal!
