Hi
I was wondering if anyone has ever been really excited to get a deck then taken it home and waited to open it to savor the moment? If so how long do you make it or do you give in to the urge to open in the parkinglot :)

I for one wait. The closet store that sells decks is 60 miles away and if I opened in the parking lot I'd be a couple of hours late getting home.
I also like to wait until the kids and husband are in bed so I have peace and quiet to enjoy my new cards.

Depends for me, some decks I wait to get home so that I can share them with my daughter, who loves looking at the pictures and making up stories about them.
There are some decks that are a bit out of her age range that I have to wait until she goes to bed to open.

Depends on the deck and how hard it was for me to find it. Usually I wait until I get home. I open it, put it back in the box and then open it again later spending hours getting to know it.
I intuitively know when it has arrived and when that happens I know that the deck was meant for me so I like to give it the respect it deserves. If it just turns up unexpected at the post office I usually wait a few days before I really look at it and it usually gets traded off.

i generally can barely wait until i get to the car. i had a few decks that came in the mail that were packaged so tightly that i couldn't get them open til i got home. i had a hard time driving home quickly enough--i only live a mile from the post office. LOL now i keep scissors in the car to solve that problem. if i buy one at a store, i open it as soon as i get in the car. it would be interesting to do a survey on who's impulsive here and who's not. a package at the post office is like re-experiencing christmas! tarot cards are like a treat for my inner child. she also likes stuffed animals--particularly cats. ;) lately she's been very happy w/ me. the adult side worries about finances and is not too pleased! oh, well!

Last deck I bought I was trying to open it in the car as I was driving home - just hoping for a red traffic light so I could stop and check the cards out! And those little things are so slippery - NOT good when trying to drive and shuffle through... :P

I like to wait until the right moment, sometimes nightime when my son is in bed, husband out of the way. When I had my Spiral it was at least 6+hours before I could open it because I had visitors, all day and partway through the night, I kept staring at the package on the table, then telling myself not to be inpatient - then the little doubts creep in like what if they'd sent me the wrong deck lol - course by the time I opened it, I was glad I waited.
When I get books delivered, I usually open them straight away, no matter who is around lol :)

I wait.
If I buy the deck in a store or it arrived by mail to my home, I wait until my little one is sleeping or very busy and my husband is out of the way (this may take a while *sigh*). Then I savor the moment and really enjoy it!
If I have the deck delivered to my office, and it arrives in the a.m., I can open it at lunchtime in my office! If it arrives in the afternoon, I wait until I bring it home.
The anticipation is part of the fun!

I got my new deck while travelling and spent the whole day carrying it around with me without actually opening it (though I did have a quick peek at the LWB!).
Throughout that day, I knew that it was there in my bag waiting and while my 'outer adult' was perfectly serious and businesslike, my inner child was giggling with excitement. (I always like to think that the people I meet are the same: serious only on the outside, giggling within...)
Anyway, in the evening I found myself a quiet spot, opened the pack and... aah! :)
love,
Maalin

Hi all,
Well, I am one of those people that just can't wait. As soon as I get in the car I open the deck! Can't stand having to wait! I love the new card smell, too. I know there is something in the ink. That is why I have to buy new decks! It's a conspiracy! There is a higher order that has taken over the printing business and they put this substance in the ink and then I have to have the smell of it so I have to buy a new deck. I'm not really a tarot adict. No, I can stop buying cards anytime I want to if only there wasn't this thing in the ink! He, he, he....

Well, the new card smell is just as good (and cheaper) than a new car smell.....
Perhaps someone should invent the hands free tarot driver to view cards and never take your hands off the wheel....

My house is kind of messy, and I don't have a dining room table, so my ritual is to take the deck to Starbucks. I can lay the cards out, play with them, and have a cafe mocha all at the same time...
After that, I do my spreads on my desk...

ROFLMAO! I have this image of Kayne being pulled over by the police (Or whatever you Aussies call them!) and being charged with Willful Violation of the Code Delta Divination Act of 2002....
He he... Luckily, I don't drive, so I'm free to open and peer, and divine all I want! })
Qulos: Yep, that new deck smell is wonderful! It reminds me of all that wonderful excitement of getting a new deck... Its great! So great in fact, that I often find myself having withdrawal symptoms from it.... :P

When I get them in a store, I wait until I get home so I don't drop one in the car. But that's about as long as I can stand.
When I have a deck due to arrive in the mail, I have been known to call Ken from work, if it's one of my late nights, and oh, so casually ask him if anything arrived. He just loves to torture me, LOL.
