Ok this is getting serious!
I will not be held responsible for this addiction which the members of this forum have afflicted upon me.....excuses, excuses
(well that's the excuse I give my partner when I want to buy another deck..... LOL)
I know that there are a lot of taroholics out there who just cannot resist having just that one more deck, my quandry is however "how do you decide which deck to use the most?"
I always told myself that I was just looking for that "perfect" deck which would serve me well and any other deck I buy is merely a back up for when the old deck gets a little....'tired'. The problem is of course when I get that other deck I feel as though I am abandoning the others. So much of my energy and consideration goes into obtaining the deck in the first place I just have to use it.
How do you deal with this?
Aaaarrrgghh! I'm an addict!

Until now I did not reach my limits in collecting :D
I do not use all decks for readings but I offer 5 different ones to my querents to select from them and I have 3 special decks I only use for readings for myself and all the rest is for collecting.

Hi Mystique!
I guess when you find a deck which is 'the one', you just know... And you tend to not mind not using the others so much... It does get quite difficult trying to use say, 50 decks! I doubt any of us do that many readings in a short space of time!
It does feel like you are neglecting the other decks... I know the feeling.. But some decks I just cannot read with, and there are a few I can read with so well that I feel scaed to use the other decks as much!
I have this image in my head now of this drawer full of poor, neglected decks... *Kiama's heart breaks* I must go buy them a new friend! })

Hi Kazz,
You know this is a really dangerous place for people with only one deck? I only ever meant to have one deck, and I have eight and growing. I keep seeing new and wonderful decks, it's addictive, I can't stop, I want more, more, more ...
Uhhm. Sorry about that.
Let us know when you get your second deck :D
Regards,
FH

Well if you take on the comparative approach to tarot, you will be able to get a bunch of your decks out, without performing 50 readings a day, that's what I do.
I do the reading with one deck (for the moment usually the Robin Wood) and then I lay out the same spread with one of my other decks (mostly the World Spirit, since that's the one I learned to really read with), and see if I get any different energies from that one. If I'm reading for someone else, and get something really interesting, I will take it up with the Querent, otherwise I'll just keep it as an interesting experiment for myself.
I can see this might still be a problem if you have fifty decks (or 114 - whoahhh, impressed! Dolphingirl: how long have you been collecting??) but then you can alter which decks you use for comparison...
Light and love,
Jenny :)

Dolphingirl I am impressed ~giggles~, now I do not feel so guilty owning 70 or 80 something decks *LOL*.
Personally I just love having them. I read and worked with the 2nd deck I got (Robin Wood) for 7 years. Then in January I got the Cosmic Tribe and instinctively I knew this was it!. I love doing comparitive study work with my decks (not for readings but for comparisons between similar typed decks) so although I may not use them all most of the time I use them all at some point by grouping (i.e. Celtic, Arthurian, Qabalistic, etc.) I also have found certain decks to be of better use for meditation or personal/spiritual development so I use those for that. My new project will be to try and read all the companion books I have with decks and do more deck reviews. So you see, there is no competition between the decks, they all have a great purpose and that is why I need more *LOL*

One of the funnest parts of a reading for me is picking out decks for the querent to choose from! It's funny, because I usually know the person already, so I try to pick three or five (never four...odd quantities seem more right for this exercise for some reason) that 'goes with' what I know about them.
Inevitably, there is one deck that makes them say, "WHY did you pick THAT deck for me?" There is also one that makes them say, "Oh, that one! That one is PERFECT for me! How did you know?" It's very strange! It really does happen often enough for me to wonder about. Maybe I see something in them that they don't want to see, so they reject the deck that represents this aspect of their personality...sorry, getting all psychological now.
Anyway, this practice assures that nearly half of my 50+ decks get used occasionally. And it gives me an excuse to collect more! ;)
Peace,
Melvis

I have four decks: one to play games with, two to read with (a primary and a secondary) and one that I gave to an ex as a gift and rescued from the trash pile when we split up. No need to buy more.

Alan's Tarot, which I got through Alida, is my playing-card deck. The Ukiyoe Tarot is the one I rescued. I don't use it for reading because its minors are all pip-faced.
I suppose my willpower is probably aided by the fact that 99 percent of the decks available don't appeal to me aesthetically at all. It always baffles me when Solandia posts a new batch of deck reviews, and everyone goes, "Ooh! Ahh! I must have these! Call FedEx!" and I'm sitting here thinking, "They all look like crap."

And you are responsible for me having several of the decks that I now own, Sam! (not just the SW Sacred Tribes, either...LOL!) But you still have 98 decks more than I do.
