I am a little curious about this. i recently decided to start sending decks over seas, but was wondering if you insure your packages when you send them. Also, is it much more expensive???

Thanks all!

i don't think it's that much more expenisive...and i [/b]
insure them.
p.s. why are you sending decks over seas anyways?

Trading.

Phoenix: In the U.S., the cost of insurance is determined by the retail value of the item being shipped. It can add a few dollars or more to the mailing cost. You may want to check with your postal authorities to get an idea.

In the UK we can't insure anything worth less than £25 - which is more than any single Tarot deck :( All we can do is get a 'proof of posting' and hope for the goodwill of the post office if something goes wrong. It sounds like the US system is a lot more sensible.

I've done three overseas trades from here though, and so far they have been fine. I'm always a bit nervous till the deck I've sent gets there but when it does it's really great.

And I can't describe the thrill of opening a deck from someone I've only met online knowing how far it's travelled to get to me. The last deck I got, I went round going 'Wow, wow, wow' for ages, I was so excited.

So, happy trading :)

i have traded quite a lot with both canada and the US, it is expensive esp since the customs love to open up any packages with values on then and charge me steeply with taxes.
i have never insured a deck, but been lucky so far.

i do prefer to trade with european countries though which is why i am so glad i got this place (and esp catlin who can find me almost anything)

talking about trades (very OT)
i just got a HUGE package from a complete stranger from US filled with lots and lots of pop-tarts:-)
i had sent him a big pack filled with swedish candy. see, it's not all about tarot :P

Did you know that, at least within the United States, you can just slap a destination label and the right amount of postage on a coconut and drop it in the mail, and it'll get where it's supposed to go?

It's true. I've done it.

If anyone in Canada would be willing to send me some of that maple-sugar candy shaped like leaves, please email me so we can work something out. Okay, I'm done :|

I've sent to Canada all the time, & only had 1 package opened in 10 years there to a pen pal. We send at least 5 boxes a year back & forth (books, video tapes of local tv shows, etc.). And only one package to England was ever opened that I know of, out of something like 30 or 35 that I sent.

Maybe it depends on what you list on the customs sheet. Maybe 'card deck' will be better than 'tarot deck' and not get anyone's box cutter flashing.

I get mail all the time from the States and they usually mark the goods NCV meaning "no commercial value".

I don't think they insure the goods, and I always receive the goods OK, however it takes a few weeks to get from USA to Australia and vice versa.

I do a lot of trades either to the USA, Canada or Australia and of course within Europe. I usually ship my stuff as registered letter to have at least a proof and some insurance on it but it takes pretty long to get stuff from Germany to oversea areas.

Even within Europe it may happen that the stuff dangles for ages at the custom's office although I always declare it as a gift and fill out that green slip. I always write "playing cards" on it but I am still very anxious that the postmen or whoever tear the package open and steal the deck/s.

I avoid sending stuff before holidays as this causes further delay and might attract stealing scums.

Unfortunately, there is no cheap means to send stuff apart from the German post or UPS or DHL but you have to pay hell for that so only companies can benefit from that but no poor little secretary.
