i loved that old movie because it had two things for me when i was like 15 when i first seen it just after i got into the tarot a bit.
my own native culture and the tarot in it.
i read the book and there is a slight differnce.
in the book they ask the computer to reconize an old spirit talking to the computer manitou and the computer responded with a code that would help them.
it was very old school religous beleifs.
ex. only a native could control native spirits and only a white person could control the manitou of the computers
ex. the death card really means death as the tony robbins, as a tarot reader(dressed up in a tarot outfit) was making money off old woman another sterotype that tarot readers only after the money. but tony robbins from what i saw in the movie truly meant well and was doing his best to read for the ladies(well his character was).
so an old lady came for a tarot reading and the death card showed up in the outcome and he layed out the cards again the death card show up in the outcome then the old lady started getting up and talking native and powwow dancing before floating to the stairs and being flung down the stairs.
it was damaging to my native mind i thouht tomyself are shamans evil ? and it took me a long time to work through that stereotype thanks to the shaminasm the way of power book and the books of michael harner and a book called soul retrieval.
and it took me a double long time to work through the stereotype that death actually meant death and the devil actualy meant the devil.
but as an entertainment movie it was good i watched it over and over just to see the tarot parts.
the witch board movie was the first one i seen that open my eye to the spiritual world i saw it just before i got into the tarot as i was too scared too(eheh as a young boy i used to watch every vampire movie, werewolf movie, ghost movie i could find then from 9inish to 15ish i was scared as beep of anything to do with the occult. becoming a devout christian, watching jesus movies and such. )
it watched the movie a lot just to see this part , and analzy it how it made me feel. it lead me to trying the oujia in 91,
ma fado or however it was scared the hell out of me.
but there were other good spiritual movies that help me open my mind so i could understand some books
made in heaven
defending your life
what dreams may come
sixth sense
of coures the others(the ending surpised me)
i once read this book about a young girl who got the only true tarot in the world. and she put the card under her pillow to try understand each card (i tried that when i first got the aquarian deck and i tried again when i got the riderwhaite deck.. i couldn't sleep, of course the first time i tried the whole deck .. then i tried a card and still coulnd't sleep so i gave up).
in her dreams the cards were spirits talking talking to her. but i forgot what else happend.
what movies or books did you read that open up your mind to ideas ?
