OK I need your advice

I read well. However I do not read regularly. Why? Well 2 reasons really.

1. Because I don't tell people I read
2. Because I don't always trust my intuition enough (how silly)

I want to read more. I trust my cards and yet I do not trust myself.

I know there is a forum here to do readings for others, but to be honest until I have done more readings face to face I don't know whether I can do a read on the forum.

Part of my hesitation is that my readings don't always come out as ".... a blonde women of about 40, maybe your sister..." but more like ".... a woman related to you and who is older..." For the most part my readings tend to focus on the personal and spiritual aspects (like emotions, self expression, internal growth, personal gain, health) of the questioner with perhaps a little bit of the material or mundane (work, possessions, aspects of attachments).

Your advice here would be much appreciated. I NEED to do more readings. This may sound odd but my need to read is like an ache in my inner most being constantly there throbbing within my soul.

None of this sounds like a problem to me! Who wants to sound like a hokey fortune teller anyway?

VGimlet  19 Jun 2002
I too am not quite comfortable reading for anyone except for my very close family (my husband, my sister and my neice, to be exact.) I haven't done the reading exchange either, because I keep feeling like I'm not quite ready, I need to study a bit more, understand the meanings a little more clearly....blah blah...:D But I want to get started!

I think reading cards for others, and exercising one's intuition is the best way to continue to move forward. And getting feedback is so important! You may not know who "the woman related to you, who is older" is; but the person you are reading for probably will. (I have found this out myself, as little as I read, LOL). And I think that the more we read, the more honed our intuition gets.

I think you should listen to your feelings, if you feel the need to read so intensely, it must be time. :)

Hi!

I have to agree with Luned - that's not really a problem. If that's the kind of answer the person you're reading for wants, there are plenty of pay-phone-numbers (or whatever they're called!) that - but the information you can give will probably be of more help...

And how are people supposed to choose reader if we're all "supposed" to see things the same way? You might not attract clients who want the specific stuff, but you will attract clients who look for an emotional overview and advice, the stuff you feel are your "strong points"!

And if you feel you must read, you must read. Don't fight against what you feel is right for you!

Good luck!

Jenny :)

1. Tell people you read.
2. Trust your intuition.

If you need to read - just do it.

What's the worst that could happen? })

In my experience confidence comes from practice...

Hey Mistique,

Just go for it! a face to face reading is not that terrible. Be careful that you do not get folks among your first clients who are sceptic about tarot or who do not take it serious.

Try to contact a metaphys shop where you could do some trial readings just to see how things will go or offer readings for friends, coworkers, whatever (be careful that they do not abuse you for excessive free readings!).

hi, i think this is the way it is with most really good tarot-readers.
of course some clients get more dazzled with the pin-pointing of age and looks and exact dates etc. but those things will be forgotten in the end. one thing that will stick with the client is when you reach them on a spiritual level and it sounds to me like that is just what you are doing!

so good luck!

psst, reading on-line is a great practise esp here i would guess since you are among equals. all of us here know that not every reading will be 100% but we value them for what they are.

i think.
gosh, i never do the reading exchange myself. i think i might, in a few weeks or so.

Actually, I'd rather read to people on a forum before daring to read to strangers (for instance) face-to-face. :D :P

Find my rambling posts in this section, entitled "Why they come to us" (parts one and two).
Folks (Mystique, VGimlet), I know you can read (trust me, I know). You simply need to do it. Trust the spirit, and do it. Thinking will lead you astray.
There is this medeocre movie entitled "Pushing Tin". Near the end of the movie is the "Point". Billy Bob Thornton says, "You know what your problem is? You think. Thought is your enemy."
Follow your heart. Shut down the brain. Jump onto the reading exchange.

HOLMES  19 Jun 2002
read in the reading exchange goof friend. take it from one who knows.

before i did it.
1. wasn't confident in my abilities
2. didn't even know my abilities
3. and i was badly out of pratice
4. and thus i was felt cut off from my own beliefs and spirituality.

after i did it.
1. way more confident in my abolities
2. know my reading style more.
3. got all the pratice i wanted.
4. felt alive agian.

i been reading for 12 years now and studying for 11 years.
and the reading exchange i have found is good.
1. for new beginniners to get their feet in the door.
2. for intermediate to learn the craft.
3. for old masters to practice and still grow.

i am an intermediate and found every reading i did to be a self lesson as i typed it.

go for it you shall not regret it eheh :O)

Mystique: If you are not yet comfortable offering them to those you know offline, try offering your services on Reading Exchange. Believe me, there are many who would appreciate it. I guarantee you will have more takers than you will probably have time for, so perhaps it would be wise to not only limit the number, but to proceed at a measured pace.
There is no hard rule that requires one to do x number of in-person readings before doing online readings. All it takes is practice. I prefer online readings because of the lack of distractions.

MystiqueMoonlight  19 Jun 2002
I will do some readings on the reading forum when I get my Visconti Tarot.

I suppose I'm a little anxious about online readings (maybe it's because of all the mumbo jumbo stuff of phone line readers).

Currently I am using the Neferatari's Tarot and it serves me well, but I am so drawn to the Visconti that I would prefer to wait until I get it. It'll take a little while though because it is coming from Amazon.com and that takes several weeks.

Thank you everyone for your advice I knew I could rely on all of you :)

Hey Moonlight...
Well, what if you did this? Since you may not feel comfortable reading in the exchange thread, but have had alot of support in the thread you created...offer to exchange with the few people that have responded to your thread here. You can either post your readings on this thread, or send them via a personal message, so you feel less like people are examining your reading.

I've been reading tarot for myself for about 4 years, but only recently starting trying on others. The forum is very helpful.
I've had one person say they didn't know what the he** I was talking about, but several others had a good read. Most the good reads I was maybe 80-90% on, and even a few weird things came up. And people tell you if it doesn't sound right, they just say, "hmmm...I don't remember meeting a young gypsy rock star..." and what can you say?

I've read through a lot of the reading exchange reads (I suggest you take some time and do this). You will see that there are a number of different styles and interpretations, and even the most highly esteemed readers sometimes make a point the querent doesn't understand.

So, I'm scared too, I have my intuition, and sometimes I'm right on, and when I'm off, I'm mortified! But we have to practice to learn how the cards speak to US! If you want to do a secret exchange and read for each other, I'm willing. Just PM me or let me know on this thread and we can try it. It's very gratifying and helpful.

I actually read for more people here than I do for people in real life. You would be suprised how accurate that they can be.

Well said Holmes! :)
I don't think one can ever learn all there is to know about tarot. Ah, that's a different discussion. :D

It just hit me - if there WAS a way to LEARN all there is to know about Tarot, it probably wouldn't work, would it? What makes it work is the part that comes from within, and that you can't "learn", can you...

Just a reflection...!

Light and love,
Jenny :)

Wow, MM. I was just pondering posting something along the lines of trusting yourself and reading Tarot, and for a variety of reasons, did not.

I don't have much to add, here, unfortunately, but I just found the synchronicity really...odd? good? amazing?
