I posted a while back about how I had won an auction onm first ever Tarot deck, and I was absolutely chuffed. I was so happy to finally have that deck within my grasp... So, I sent th cheque to the seller as required, and made it payable to the right person, everything... But for some reason, it hasn't reached that seller yet. Its been nearly 3 weeks, and it still isn't there. I've explained to the seller that it must be the postal service playing up, yet again, and that if it wasn't there by yesterday I would cancel that cheque and try again... This morning I got a rather nasty and off-putting email from the seller saying that he needed the payment now or he would not be able to carry on with the transaction...
Its not my fault, but this person doesn't seem to understand... I mean, 4 days into the transaction, they reported me to Ebay saying I hadn't payed yet... Geez give Royal Mail some time!!!!
I really expected the sellers on Ebay to be as nice and friendly as the people I have traded with and bought off here at Aeclectic: I guess I was wrong...
:(

Hi Kiama,
I can fully understand you're angry. I remember that there were at least 2 packets German Mail seemd to have lost.
I did quite a lot of ebay last year but then I renounced as I have found here many nice trading partners. Besides, I got literally drowned in ebay mail stuff.
Hope you will get your cheque back. Sometimes ppl just keep stuff and say that they have never gotten the payment so watch out.

i am so sorry Kiama, what a rotten luck you had.
i try to stay away from e-bay myself - i did however buy one thing once from a very nice seller from england. the customs when i buy things from the states scare me off so i only ever shop within the EC.
i do believe that most of the people on e-bay are rather nice though but of course not as nice as the Aeclectic people;)
hope you can clear things up with the seller - sounds like a plan to block the first check and send a new one express - it only take a few days.

I don't know wat's happened to the British Postal Sytem, but it is really mucked up right now... Thereare 3thins now that I posted ages ago, but which haven't reached peple.. I sent Pollux the Glastonbury Tarot about 4/5 weeks ago, and he still hasn't got it, and there's no chance of tracking it down either cuz I don't know the date I sent it off... I sent that cheque which hasn't reaced the recipient, and I sent off an article to a magazine for publication, but have not heard anything rom them to verify if they have receieved it or not which they always do... I'm just gettng o nagry now. I've got enough to worry about without having to track down things which I posted and should have got to their rightful owners by now...

Oh, dear, that is bad.
I planned to sent you the Pagan book back as I have read it. I think I'll sent it as registered letter to make sure you'll get it.

Have you considered paying using online payment methods such as Paypal? I usually use Paypal for online payments as it cuts down the wait time.
eBay is a great place to get rare and cheap stuff. Tarot decks are rare here in Singapore. A bookstore I last visited only had the Rider-Waite in stock.

This is how I pay for things on ebay too. Too many things can happen with checks and money orders through snail mail. We are a merchant on Ebay and a LONG time ago we had sold something where this lady sent a check, and it came like a month later, but what was weird about it, was the envelope was all open, and dirty with a footprint on it. Too Weird!
Anyhow, when I buy things on ebay, like Dystopian said, I use Paypal which is an INSTANT PAYMENT. That merchant is really being rude, for it isn't your fault. I mean since you contacted them and explained, they SHOULD HAVE been more nice. Its the people who don't even contact you, whom you should report.
Make sure you cancel that check, and tell the merchant you're canceling it, incase they finally get it. I think there is a way for YOU to leave feedback incase that report shows on your score status about what happened.
Anyways, sign up for Paypal, thats the safest way I would say.

Faerie Lin said it.
E-Bay, like any other community, has its ‘interesting’ participants.
My brother in law makes his living selling things over e-bay, and the stories!
Paypal has issues from a merchant’s point of view, but from a client point of view they are great.
I extend my offer once again. Should something ever come up on ebay that you want…ask me.

My old roomate is a design student and she would always buy art supplies on Ebay because you could get them at half the price. But she ran into a bad seller. She sent him a money order for the supplies. he said he never got it. So after 30 days she cancelled the money order. Well, he got it and cashed it in. So then she got a bill from the post office saying she owed them money. I would watch out for people like that. PayPal would be a good idea. At least you can assure that no funny business will be going on.

Kiama, if I remember correctly ebay also offers to mediate in a dispute between buyer and seller. Don't know how that works though, you'll have to check the site. I think the fact that you're willing to consult an objective third party should already indicate you're conscience is clear.
I didn't even know what paypal was before I got to ebay, but it proved very easy and I use it all the time. I haven't bought much at ebay, but I find most sellers nice so far. One lady selling decks wrote me a very kind e-mail and left a raving feedback :)
(I did not get all my stuff yet though...shipping sometimes takes a long time, in this case it's not the sellers fault).
I now only use ebay for things I can't get anywehere else; shops like amazon will replace your purchase if it gets lost and most sellers on ebay are in the USA, so if you live in Europe it's high shipping costs and a long time of waiting for your stuff...
Good luck, I hope you've got it all sorted out and still get your deck !!

Payment is sorted: I cancelled the first cheque, wrote another one, sent it recorded delivery... It reached the seller on the exact same day the original cheque did! Sod's Law! Well, at least they know I sent it in the first place...
I'm awaiting n email from the seller now, telling me when they've sent it... Hopefully soon!

Is the seller going to give you a big fat apology? I still haven't been able to sign into Ebay regardless of the fact that I registered over 4 weeks ago.
Well I'm glad it all got sorted out for you Kiama.....
