I am setting up the spread page, and having 80 spreads till now, giving it a good overlook is beginning to be a bit hard here.
I have surfed around to see how other sites do this, and really it seems that 50+ spreads is giving every webmistress or webmaster a hard time in making it easy.
The way I have done it now is to divide in 15 categories, only it dont do the spreads justice at first glance - I think many wont be seen this way, and that is really a shame, as in these close to 80 spreads you all have shared there is a spread for everything.
I thought about giving each spread a small review on main page, but would that help the overlook or clutter it even more ?
Do you have any suggestions or opinions on how a spread page should look to give a quick and profound view on what kind of spreads to find there ?
anything will be highly appreciated :)
thanks anja

Hi bec,
How about a spread "home page" with different categories, where spreads can occur in different categories. You could use both categories based on content ("love spreads", "work spreads") and categories based on layout ("3-card spreads", "5-card spreads"). So a 5-card love spread would occur in both the "love spreads" and the "5-cards spreads" categories.
You could then place the spreads themselves on separate pages and link to them from the "home page".
Just my idea... ;)

i think a small, like one or two sentence review would help people a little, and not make clutter!

When you are searching for new spreads what are you looking for ? a specific category or number of cards in the spread ?
or both maybe ?
A small review before going to the single spread is what I think would work, names and titles dont always do the thing even if they are categorized - but that would make it hard to follow tarotladys idea of dividing in both numbers and categories, which I also like the idea of.
And again doing categorizing is not all that easy, cause many of the spreads you make is good for numerous of occations :D which means I would have to put them in like 3-4 catergories each - but if that is what works, that is what I will do.
To be frankly I have searched high and low for sites doing this so its easy, and still my experience is 50+ and it is hard to keep the overlook of the page.
Maybe several pages ?? One for each main category ?
Love, general, financial, health and so on - that would make the page smaller and easier on the load, and you would have easy access to the category you search for ??
Let me know what you think please :) I would like it to be easy for all to use.

I think that would work yes, start with a few main categories and divide them into subcategories. You could put the subcategories on a new page, or you could start the page with the main categories and link to the category with its subcategories further down the page using an internal link. Am I making myself clear here? ;)
If you put all the spreads on separate pages, maybe in pop-up windows, it wouldn't matter in how many categories the spread would fit, because you could always link to that same page/window.

The other thing you could do to help people find a spread more easily is to install a text search function on your website. You don't even have to build it yourself, you can get it for example from www.freefind.com.
I've got one on my own website, and it works quite well, without too much advertising.
