Visiting a tarot 'group' for the first time.

Greetings all.
Well, yesterday my friend and I went to this tarot-café I've been wanting to go to for a long time. They only meet once a month, so this was my last chance before leaving.

I was so disappointed and provoced when I left! And grumpy... :( The guy, who has been studying tarot since 1989, bases all his knowledge on the one book I hate: Jane Lyle's Great Book of Tarot. I've said it before, I'll say it again: this is the most superficial book I've ever encountered!

This guy was also bragging alot of his notes. He had two books of notes, but all was loosely based upon the Lyle book, with lots of scetches and diagrams. It was a mess. I started to get annoyed when I got the feeling he was trying to impress me all the time.

Then... he starts to talk about the time he and his friend predicted the death of the fianceé of one of the people visiting this café. They didn't say it straight out, he said, but in terms that she would understand after her guy had died. IT'S AWFUL! I mean, ask the Universe for something, and you might as well get it... Then this girl had returned to tell everybody that they were right. How MORBID isn't that!! "Hey, my guy just passed away, but guess what?! These two wonderful guys knew it! Wow, I have to get tarot books right away!"

OH, I'M SO ANGRY! How is this behaviour possible? He also sat there bragging about the time he predicted the death of another man who died of cancer. He even knew the month.

Then he said that he and his friends laid cards on everybody, and knew everything about everybody. JEEEEEEZZZZZ!

Well, there's more, but I'm so upset now I have to finish. I have to get out of this room from this computer and have a big breath of fresh air! :( *GRRRRR* No wonder people fear the tarot.

Hi aeonx,

I feel with you. Maybe you remember what I had to go through with one member of my tarot circle. I can only recommend you to set up your own tarot group so you don't have to cope with such wannabe's who just cast a very bad light on tarot and serious tarot readers.

Sounds horrible aeonx... :(

On the positive side: maybe you could use this as inspiration for your article?? ;)

What a great idea, to have a tarot group/meeting. But obviously this guy ruined it by being too far into himself. I agree you should start your own tarot group. That guy seems like the type who would totally hog the spotlight while others are there yawning. I would have been disgusted too!....

In this age of techno overload we are all looking for a spiritual uplifting. ALL OF US.

I am sure that this misguided person did antagonise your faith in Tarot somewhat, but try to understand that this person is looking for something and at present he finds it in his misguided judgement of The Cards.

Perhaps this is the door that The One has presented to you as a Reader to pursue your quest for knowledge and intuitive experience which you have and will develop further.

Choc it up to experience, light a candle and ask for guidance for him so that he may recognise his earthly (pentacles) association to the Tarot and find his spiritual (wands) knowledge which he obviously needs and perhaps take this opportunity to reflect on "your" respect for The Cards (which he does not have).

Don't be frustrated...be patient...

Blessed be. :)

Hi catlin. :)
You're an elder now, congratulations! *s*

I would have done that, but I'm moving away from this city now. However, I'm angry at myself for not telling the guy how I felt about all this. I told him, though, that I think it's very difficult to predict physical death. Especially in exactly two weeks! And that I think it's morally wrong to say it.

I didn't want to start a discussion either. We just left. None of us had any want or need to stay there, and I'm not going back. Yet it annoys me that he's teaching a lot of people this...

Hopefully they'll read my article! :D

Wow you guys are fast! *l*

tarotlady_nl: I will, you bet! :D These are the kinds of things that scare people away.

Faerie Lin: well, maybe I'll have to start one up at the place I'll end up this fall. I will keep you posted. :D

MystiqueMoonlight: if he has not yet learned more about tarot after studying it for the last 13 years, well, I won't say he's currently misguided...

Some people take the wrong path on a long journey and don't see that the path is wrong until they reach the end....others say they are more adept because they have pursued knowledge...but knowledge is nothing without practice and skill..

Blessed be..

Kiama  03 Jun 2002
Aeonx: I think you're very brave to tell him what you thought. *Kiama stands up and gives a round of applause* Very brave indeed. On the good side of all this, now you know what not to do.. (Not that I'm saying you would, but you know you'll be on extra special guard against anyone who is like that bloke...)

Again, well done!
