We are certainly learning alot about our fellow Aeclectians.....particularly Kayne. Who knew that he liked the Cosmic Tribe Deck? ;)

Anyways, I got to go with the Victoria Regina version of the Star.

This one is easy, easy, easy!

Joya250's Star for the FACT Project!

I gave an audible gasp when I saw that card. Really took my breath away!

Peace,

Melvis

Though I did not find it a good deck to read with, I drew much inspiration from the Goddess Tarot's Star (Inanna).

http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/goddess/index.html

The Sacred Circle's Star card is also luminous and, like the Moon card in that deck, evocative.

next to the queen of cups, my reaction to the star is a good indication of how i'll get along with the deck. one of my favorites is the merry day varient.

Ah, the Star! My favorite card in the Tarot deck. My reaction to this card greatly influences whether I will purchase a deck or not.

My favorites are the Robin Wood - she's just so serene and lovely and the Gill, with all of that radiant light shining down upon her. I don't know how the artist was able to give the impression of actual sparkling to the light shining down.

My favorite star is from the sectret tarots its so gorgeous.

Rhiannon  11 Jul 2002
I like the ones that approach the Star differently from RWS. I mean, I don't normally have a problem with nudity in decks... but does the Star always have to be a nekkid chick pouring water????

Some of my faves are from the Fantastical, the Legend and from the Goddess.

Rhiannon :)

Edited to add that I also like the Star from the Mythic. It's still a nekkid chick (Pandora) but instead of pouring water she's opening a box and releasing hope.

Kellinator  11 Jul 2002
I also like nontraditional Stars. This is another card I look at carefully in a deck, especially because if a friend of mine ever does her tarot deck I'm supposed to be the Star...

I like the Victoria Regina a lot. I really like the Shakespearian (one of the few cards in that deck I truly like), because she's Beatrice, my favorite character from Shakespeare, and her quote is perfect: "A star danced and under that I was born."

I *don't* like the Myers Art Nouveau Star -- she looks like a bimbo airhead! ;)

***Spewing coffee from my mouth*** :D

Rhiannon! I shouldn't have taken a swig of coffee before reading your post.

Yeah yeah yeah YEAH!

Kyrielle  11 Jul 2002
My favorite Stars are the least traditional ones -- the Hudes, which shows a woman immersed up to her neck in water with stars above her head (look at this one on a hot summer day and you've got Tarot air conditioning). Also the Haindl, where the woman appears to be washing her hair in a waterfall.

sorry i can't post 'em, but:

the new palladini and the ukiyoe are the best nekkid chicks pouring water i've ever had a chance to peep at. in fact, it was the new palladini that made this card my fave.

Sorceress_Jade  11 Jul 2002
I suppose my favorite star would have to be the thoth. I really love all the spiraling, and they're not smooth spirals. It's fantastic looking.

However, and I haven't seen this, but I think the best image for a star card would be a star shining down out of the darknes with a hand reaching up toward it.

So true. :D You'll notice the Stars I mentioned were not RWS nekkid-chick-clones. The Inanna image in the Goddess deck is both luminous and empowering. The Sacred Circle is simply a beautiful image of a star lighting the night.

One naked woman Star image that transcends "nekkid chick" syndrome is the Motherpeace image of a woman immersed in a pool, surrounded by a circle of stones, and bathed in healing light from the Star above. A very soothing, nurturing image - the book calls it "the calm after the storm of the Tower."

Maybe it's just because the RWS variants tend to look like the naked woman is posing for the viewer, as it were, that they come across to some of us as "nekkid chick"? After all, there's plenty of nudity, for both sexes, in other cards. (e.g., ever take a look at the impossibly-endowed man in the Robin Wood lovers? :D) So it can't just be the nudity that's at issue.

(As an aside, one of the funniest reviews of the Motherpeace deck that I've read was by - I think - a man who ranted about how it was all "Breasts! Breasts! Breasts!" Go figure. The nudity in the MP, among other decks, never bothered me. It's very natural and un-"posed.")

I'd have to agree that Joya's star card from the FACT is by far the most beautiful one I have ever seen. Can't wait to see a whole deck!

the hermit  12 Jul 2002
If I have to pick an existing Star I guess it would be Robin Wood's...
But...
My Favorite Star is one that isn't...
a card I mean...
although I wish it was.

It's a beautiful Prismacolor Art print by Robin Wood called "Star Spinner".
It's on my wall hanging next to my Hermit print.

I've always felt it would make a great, non-traditional (no nekkid chicks), yet still insightful, Star card.

It was bequeathed to me by a very special mentor. I look at the print and feel that she's still watching over me.

To see it go to:

Robin Wood

Scroll the left frame down until you see Prismacolor Art
and click on the link "Star Spinner"

First off, gorgeous print and yes it would be a splendid Star card!

Secondly, how wonderful to have received it as a gift; what a wonderful thing to remember your mentor by.

Yes, Robin does some wonderful art work. She's a very talented person with a great sense of the obsurd!
Everytime I go to her site I want more, but don't know where I'd put it.
I already need a gallery for all of the stuff hanging from my walls.
Oh well...

Jewel  12 Jul 2002
Joya250's star from the FACT ... made me gasp as well! Just breathtaking!

Sally Gardens  13 Jul 2002
I forgot about this Star:

http://home.mindspring.com/~ariadne1/oldtarot.html

Add it to my list.

Unfortunately, the artist lost interest in the deck after only four cards, but she does have prints available of these four cards.

kayne  13 Jul 2002
Alright... Predictable Kayne is not even gonna say it... (but here's a link :P)

And Joya's star rocks! (Come on Joya, where is the rest of that deck you were creating???)

That's too bad! I like the artwork.
Not only a beautiful Star, but a great Moon too!
Oh well...

Thanks for sharing though!
