How do you decide to get rid of a deck?

I see a lot of selling & trading of decks, and I was wondering, how you decide that one of them has to go?
(I can't see myself getting rid of any of the decks that I have. )
Do you ever feel bad afterward, or wish you hadn't done it?

Hi Tarotphelia,
If I have a deck for quite a while and it will still not "click" with me, I set it aside for a trade.
I once traded my Ancient Path deck away but after a while I got the feeling of having a "gap" in my collection so I bought me a new set of the Ancient Path deck.

I have traded away 3 tarot decks and one fortune telling deck. What I got back worked so much better for me that I was very glad I traded. I could not get readings at all out of the decks that I traded away. The fortune telling deck was the worst, it would not work for me at all.

I've had good experiences with trading as well. I did have a hard time deciding to part with my Fantastical deck... but since I couldn't use it.. i thought maybe somebody else could. I felt guilty about it just sitting there collecting dust!

i really enjoy trading. i like the art of making a deal and opening a full mail box. i have also found that i feel closer to the ppl on the forum i've traded w/. it's like we shared something special. sometimes i'll trade a deck i actually like to make someone else happy. in return i usually get something i really like and so my happiness is doubled. of course, there are decks that are off limits to trading like my templar or wheel of change. ;) how do i decide? maybe i feel ambivalent about a deck and something is up for trade i think i'll like better. i think there's only one deck i really disliked that i traded.

I just traded a deck for the first time and... hopefully... if all goes well... I may be trading a second! The reason I traded the first: I just didn't like it... I thought I would like it and knew it had just gone out of print so I thought - ooh! Better grab this before it's gone forever... but when I opened it it just didn't suit me... I wouldn't have just sold the deck - trading was much more fun AND I ended up with a deck I really like... and a surprise :D (Thanks MeeWah!!!)

I concur with Truthsayer. It is a really nice feeling when you are able to give someone the deck they have been wanting or looking for, for one you want. I still have a hard time letting go, but when the other person tells me they got the deck and love it, I cannot help but smile and know I did the right thing. The trades here on aeclectic have all been very friendly and I have received them all in excellent condition. I have made a couple of really really close friends through the trading forum and gotten to know others better and that in and of itself has been very enriching for me. The more you get to know who will potentially get your decks, the easier it gets.

I can't trade my decks away, I'm a hoarder by nature anyway, and my collection is so small that they all have their place. Even the Robin Wood that I find unusable but I still like to look through the cards, its a very attractive deck, not for me but it stays :)

I'm waiting on the other person right now to complete a trade. When I purchased the deck and for the first month I had it I was totally in love with it. Now I don't use it at all and don't even have the urge to do so.
I feel /incredibly/ guilty about wanting to trade it away but this woman really wants one. I keep trying to tell myself that it will have a loving home but I know that I'll be upset when it leaves my collectiong.
Such a frustrating thing. Cause the deck she has /is/ one I want. But I don't know yet if I'll click with that deck either. ~sigh~ I don't know if she'll ever get around to trading tho, so maybe i'm fretting over nothing eh?
Perhaps I'll convince myself to pick the deck up again and maybe i'll find some redeaming qualities. :)

Well if you decide you want it back, do like Truthsayer and try and attain it back through another trade. She can tell you how that works, she is the expert *LOL*. I can almost feel her adrenaline rush when she does it *ROFLMAO*.

If its a faddish deck, I'm generally more inclined to trade it off. The decks that remain tend to be pricier decks, quality art decks or those decks that have stood the test of time.
Theme decks, pomo decks and decks with no coherent focus are most likely to be traded.
I guess that means that my Tarot of the Ancient Celtic Cat People, the Titanic Tarot and the Tarot de Anna Kournikova are likely to be on the trading block.

That would be the one with cats wearing kilts and travelling in coracles and so on would it? I'll trade you for that... may I offer my Mystic Travellers of the Venezuelan Mountains in trade?

I don't think ur crazyat all. I'm an e-bay addict and I get the same rush. I work in a mailroom so i get to sit here all day waiting for the mail to come in to see if I got my deck. I should have one in the next day or so, and another one about a week after that.... and i'm about to win one tonight.
OMG! Am I a tarotoholic? Is there a 12 step program? I don't think I'm ready to give it up. ~hyperventalates~ Why isn't the mail faster?

Get rid of a deck?
I'm with those who would find it difficult to do, even with a deck I can't read with, or even don't like. In fact, I think I am allergic to getting rid of decks. I feel an attack of sneezes coming on at the thought. Better get out of this thread before the hives appear. :D

~Chuckles~ Actually there is a twelve step program that you will find very comforting. There is a thread about it somewhere in this Talking Tarot forum. You should check it out. So what deck are you waiting on?

If I don't get on with a deck, I tend to feel uncomfortable about having it around. It seems so awful for the deck to have to be with me, who doesn't like it, rather than with someone who will appreciate it.
And yes, I love trading with people here. I feel so much closer to the people I've traded with - some of them are too far away to meet up, but trading is the next best thing. And they are such kind and generous people.

deckSSSS lol
I got them all cheap, so I splurged. Right now I'm awaiting:
Caring Psychic Family (the whole deck, rather than majors)
Ancestral Path
Witches Tarot
And I'm bidding on two others:
Legend: the Arthurian
And a mini universal waite. (because carying around a full size deck in my purse takes up a lot of room :) )
~sigh~ I don't understand what happened! I went looking for one deck! and now i'm sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the mail each day, it's torture!
~goes off to look for the twelve step program~
