I've now run out of room on my shelf!

With the Cloisters Deck that faunabay hooked me up with and the Lo Scarebo Egyptian Deck that I acquired today, I have now run out of room to put them on my offical tarot deck shelf in my room.

Now I am going to have to get creative so that my daughter doesn't snatch them off the shelf.

How do you store your collection? Does your house look like the Barnes and Noble new age shelf? Or is there a junk drawer of Tarot in your kitchen?

I hide my cards, because my friends and family, (besides a select few), would understand my like of tarot.I hide my cards on the floor under a comfy blankey until I bring them out to "play".

I've got a lovely shelving unit that my DH made that stores my Tarot books, journals and decks. It sits on the desk he built me where I do my readings. And, I haven't run out of room.... yet ;)

My books (I haven't got that many yet) are on a shelf in my study. People usually don't come in there, but if they would, they could see them. And I wouldn't care about that, it's my house and I don't want to have to hide stuff in my own house.
My decks are in two nicely decorated boxes, not to hide them, but because I thought the boxes were perfect for that purpose.

I still have a LOT of room in those boxes... ;)

My decks all have bags, and are hung on this 5 hook metal wall decoration that has a sun, a moon, and a star on it, with my tarot cloth draped across all 5 hooks.

Some decks are so demanding about where they live, my new Rohrig ordered me to go buy it a tarottote yesterday, even tho i talked to the owner and she said Rohrig would not fit in the bag it wants, but apparently it intends to squeeze in anyway lol. When I tried putting it in to the bag I kept the Rohrig I accidentally ruined it had a hissy fit and threw itself all over the kitchen floor, after I just finished ordering it too. So Im like ok ok, i wont put you there, and I reordered it and for now its hanging out in my Special Edition Crown Royal bag (purple velvet instead of felt) So, I'll have to see how well it fits in my tarottote when it arrives hehe

I kept most of my decks in a little wooden "closet" with an open-grillwork door (it has bumble bees on it, hard to describe). When I ran out of room there, I put them on a bookshelf above my desk (which my daughter can and does reach, so the more expensive/rare ones don't go there). That shelf is now full and I'm stacking them on top!
I keep my books on a bookshelf in my bedroom, and no one goes in there except my immediate family. However, when I'm on vacation and my mom comes over to take care of all my pets, I hide certain select books (Buckland, Power Tarot, etc.) in my basement, as well as the decks. It's a shame, but i just don't want grief as soon as I get back from a vacation.

Emily  19 Jul 2002
I keep most of my decks in a glass fronted cabinet, I can see them all and there is room for more decks, not that I intend to buy anymore lol :D . My main problem is storing the books I buy, I have tarot, I Ching and divination books all seemingly taking over my dining room.
I really need a bookcase but don't have the space to put one, if I put a particular book away then a couple of days later I need it and then I keep it out :)

Mine are on a book shelf in my office, away from the prying eyes of those with closed minds.

I have some of my cards in decorative boxes here & there, and others in an old jewelry chest with drawers and a hinged top. (By coincidence, it came lined in black silk.)

But, a few weeks ago my daughter found a little shelf in her boyfriend's closet and brought it home . She knows I like to fix old things , and thought it was Very Mysterious Looking.

I looked at it, and then explained to her what a spice rack was! It has rails on the shelves, and I think if I mount it inside a closet door it will be perfect for out of sight deck storage.

It's older, a very dark walnut but it has a nicely shaped decorative top. I suppose it could be painted black and decoupaged with card scans or accented with designs,& I could add hooks to the bottom for hanging bags on , but my Martha Stewart energy is running a little low right now.(Shame spiral..)

Sounds like it could be a work-in-progress! And I can definitely relate to my Martha energy being low too. It began when her scandal did }) Seriously though, it sounds gorgeous and just the thing for your cards!

Most of mine are in shoeboxes in my room. As divinerguy said, "away from the prying eyes of those with closed minds." Despite all the talk of black silk and wooden boxes, I find that my decks don't seem to mind their shoebox homes. They keep each other company, and they seem to understand. When I get my own house (have to save my money instead of buying every deck I see!) I've promised them a cabinet or shelf of their own.

I have run out of room for the second time now! I started out with puting my decson my bokshelf... Then Ihad to clear out one of my clothes drawes to house them.. And I had to do it a second time! Now, I have run out of room in the second clothes drawer, and am considering just getting rid of all my clothes! }) If only I could...

I like the spice rack idea! I might need to find one to drill into my bedroom wall. I rather like my cards in my bedroom because then only people who know us (my husband and I) well enough are going to be in there anyway.

Most people know I am a folklore nut and pretty much know I like collecting tarot cards for that reason. (Or to see the effects of a culture on Tarot decks) so I have never had much of a problem with those who do not understand the concepts. Either way, it is pretty much out of sight, out of discussion at my house unless I whip them out to show a friend.

I have an old oak amoire that was almost totalled when I found it at a garage sale.
A woodworking friend helped me rescue and adapt it.
We put in shelfs into the upper wardrobe section and rebuilt the drawers below it. It houses my metaphysical, magickal, mystical books, decks, crystals, rocks, etc. I replaced the old, rusted lock with a newer, but still period replica that has a marvelous looking old skeleton key.

It sounds wonderful! :) I am envious - but, am happy with my shelving unit (even though I covet an armoire).

Actually right now my house looks like a tornado has swept through the metaphysical section of Barnes and Noble. ;) I have books everywhere.

But all of my Tarot books are in a cardboard box (I had already run out of room in the bookshelves before I started buying them). The box is now completely full. My decks are in a wicker basket; however, they are piled very high and need a bigger basket or another place. I don't think I can get any more decks in this basket. I like having them in the basket because I could pick up the whole basket and cart it around the house with me. But at the rate I'm going, I may eventually need a whole extra room for tarot stuff. ;) All my other metaphysical stuff is in different rooms throughout the house. I would put some of it out of sight if certain people came over...simply because I don't want to be preached at. This is another reason that the basket and box have been so handy.

I like the wicker basket idea Jimilyn. I usually leave my stuff out, but if anyone is coming with a less open mind, I tuck everything away in a closed bookcase. I am not as yet, so lost to reason as to need more space, but I see it coming :)

I am thinking about what to do now myself very timely thread! :D
Right now I have all my decks in drawers, one drawer in my bedroom, and two others in my dining room. I keep my tarot books with the other books I refer to a lot on my bedroom bookshelf. I kind of want to keep them all together, though.
I saw a tall plastic rolling storage bin set that looked like it might hold everything, but for some reason, I would prefer them to be in wood. Maybe I'll have to draw something up for Ken or my father-in-law to build for me. (Both woodworkers)

Ravenswing  21 Jul 2002
I have a section in our library that is the general metaphysics 'department'. right in front of it is a comfy chair and a small two-tiered table where I lay out all my decks in one of three catagories. There's the decks I'm currently working with (study or general use) and the decks I'm going to get to (hopefully :D ) on the bottom tier. On the top tier are decks that I figure will eventually go up for trade (but only when it feels right).

I have a coffee table in my studio that I use to work on. It opens to about a three foot square-- give me lots of room to lay out cards.

On the east wall of the studio is my altar. I keep my ceremonial magick deck at the center of it.

On the north wall is my graphics worktable. This is where I trim up any decks. At the moment, I'm removing the boarders from the diamond deck. The results are truely amazing for this one. I figure to use this deck for pathworking. They REALLY draw you right into the image without the white edging.

Books that I'm presently reading are either in the living room or in the bedroom. (for some reason, I do very little reading in the library)

I guess that about covers it.

I am going shopping today to the local arts and crafts store and, provided that they don't have a spice rack, I am going to purchase a just-assembled unstained wood box.

I've got stain, I've got a woodburner, and I've got laquer (well, my husband has them, but what his is mine by law of the Toolmen). Hmmm. Knowing my "steady" hand, maybe I should find out if there is the wood equivalant of liquid paper..... for those woodburning "oopsies"......
