After trying out different decks for a number of years, I have finally made the following resolutions:
1) No more decks too large to shuffle. I raise the white flag & admit I'm TIRED of trying to shuffle flashcard-size, sticky tarot decks!
2) No more decks that don't come with their own box. They're sloppy and hard to store. And I HATE putting rubber bands on my decks, just to hold them together, - it looks so pedestrian -but I haven't found a better way to do it.
3) No more Tarot that deviate too far from Tradition; I never end up using them because I become too irritated trying to remember what the new cards mean in that particular deck.
Anyone have any other resolutions they'd like to share?

Yes, I've made a resolution not to buy any more decks after a recent spree. I find myself making this resolution about once every two weeks...

I agree with the "no more tarot cards without a box" thing. That's my little beef with Llewellyn. They come in those big box sets. My Romani Tarot came with a box but it's oversized and the cards fall out of it. I almost crapped my pants both times I've moved because they've fallen out of the box...scatter everywhere and get bent. I know they are paper cards, but I get really protective over them. Frankly I don't want to get silk scarfs and bags for all of them. I think they should just quit putting those LWB's in there too. They are a big load of crap too.

Hey now, not wanting larger decks will make you miss out on a lot of gorgeous stuff, including my personal favorite, the Rohrig
I find the larger size showcases the art better.
I think Ill resolve to stop being so squirmy about my Ananda deck arriving lol, it is clear from Germany ;)

I don't have any problem shuffling large decks, does this mean I have "manly" hands? lol Maybe this is the reason why I am obsessed with making my nails look pretty. LOL

*laughing* ok, ok, darn it!
Yes, I like seeing the artwork, too, but I inevitably find that I can't *use* the larger decks- they are just too unweildy for me.

I have 2 things I use to judge whether or not I will buy a deck:
1. Is it pretty? Do I love the art?
2. Can I USE it? I don't like pips so it has to be RWS based.
Yes, I am a tarot snob.

I resolve to try and not feel guilty if I buy more tarot decks. Compared to other collectibles, they are very inexpensive. And you can actually DO something with them - they don't just sit there like a hundred dollar figurine. Better yet, -you can learn from them !
However, I try not to buy decks that are too big to shuffle .(Unless the artwork is really exceptional for itself- possible spellwork potential in the future- just in case.) Cartoonish or too much nudity is out. I won't buy anything that is badly drawn or executed.
I don't care for decks that stray too far from the traditional meanings and have the artist inventing all kinds of bs. (Call it something other than tarot in that case.)
If the pip cards are too plain, I am not interested. But I will put up with them if they have some kind of imagery, and I am resolving to learn to read them as well as I do the illustrated minors.

I also resolve not to buy any decks that are too large to shuffle (unless the artwork is visually to-die-for for me) and to also let go of the guilty feeling I get when purchasing a deck - I agree with Tarotphelia, there are alot more expensive collectibles that aren't nearly as user-friendly.
I also don't like to purchase decks with pip minors...
edited because of spelling - jeez!

Well, I just got the Celtic Wisdom tarot, and the cards are big, but all I can say is WOW. It's very mythic/spiritual-journey oriented, and the art just draws me in. This is clearly going to be a meditation and "inner journey" deck, and for that I like nice big pictures that don't make me squint.
However, I totally agree about those stupid oversized boxes that aren't very (at all) useful for storage. I usually put them away and use a normal box or bag for storage.

i resolve to pay off my credit card before i buy anymore decks unless a fellow tarot-holic convinces me that i must have it! (as if that's a difficult job. LOL)
i resolve not to trade any more decks that i like. (i wonder how long this will last.)
i resolve to organize my decks better to keep my decks better inventoried. this includes storing some unused books to use to store decks. this is due to losing a deck and thinking i threw it away into a nasty trash dumpster. after 2 days of searching i was to the point of having hubby look thru the trash for it. just before he started, i found it hiding in a bag w/ another deck. every deck has separate homes now!
i resolve to keep an up to date list of what i have, what i've traded and for what to whom, and decks i want.
i resolve never to buy an ugly deck just b/c it's highly collectible--unless it's free or nearly free.
i resolve to love tarot to the day i die!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent resolution! I think I will follow in your foot steps!
~Giggles at Truthsayer~ You know Truth, my Karma Tarot is probably waiting for me at home to review it and give an update to see if you "need" it *LOL*. I think I will adopt your ugly deck resolution as well.

Okay, I'm a Tarot sl*t, I admit it.
I wake up, wanting to get another deck, because it feels good.
I go to bad parts of town, because I can get some Tarot decks there. I spend more money than I should.
I shamelessly stay up late, indulging in my passion for Tarot. I then wake up even later, sometimes feeling a little guilty, but most times just wanting more.
Well . . . . at least its not fattening.
