Reading for yourself

can you get depress when reading for youself and get some cards that disappoint you.

zorya  05 Jul 2002
this is kind of a complicated question lili, you ok? (you can pm me if you want.)

i think the times i feel the most "depressed" about the cards i get, is when there is a part of me that already knows the truth, but i just don't want to admit it to myself. the cards just help me recognize what i already, deep down, know.

if it is an outcome card that is disapointing you, remember that outcomes can often be changed, depending on the surrounding cards.

sometimes people think of certain cards as negative. all cards have a positive side, sometimes it is in a lesson that needs to be learned. the cards are there not only to tell us what will or can happen, but to teach us and help us grow as well.

often, what seems disappointing at first, can lead to much, much better things.

Lili: Perhaps another view would help. Consider posting your throw on Your Readings.

Zorya: That was expressed superbly!!

Lili,

I am new to the Tarot and had a reading which shocked me actually. This reading does appear in the "Your readings" forum.

Someone (Phoenix) gave me a different understanding of the reading which was really helpful. Some other experienced people also made helpful comments.

Good fortune, and thank you for sharing this.

hi lili :)

I think sometimes a pitfall in reading for yourself, can be in the temptation to interpret the cards meanings with a negative bias, out of fear that they're indicating the worst, (confirming your own worst fears so to speak).

If you are feeling a bit low in the first place, it is even more likely you'll interpret the meanings more negatively, thus depressing yourself even more. When I'm in that frame of mind, (or anytime really) I find it helpful to phrase my question as positively as possible, for example; "What can I do towards achieving the kind of outcome I'm hoping for in this situation?". The cards will still give honest insight ..whether it's something you want to hear or not ..but at least then they are relating to you with regards your situation more like a therapist would, ..not as some prophet of doom.

I could not improve on the posts that you have so far, and I just wanted to add support. If the cards worry you, post them in Your Readings and other readers can help with perspective.
Your own fears will distort your ability to see the meanings and inter-relations clearly sometimes. And zorya's post is excellent, indeed everything depends on where you are standing in how you see what you are looking at. :)

Of course you can. You can get depressed at any time, for any reason. Should you get depressed when you see cards that disappoint you? No.

You should post your readings in the readings section. For one: I have been there and done that. When I first began reading and I was in some sort of crisis, I would just churn out these big spreads. I really didn't take time to actually interpret them. I jsut looked at the cards, if they were negative I would get pissed and depressed. Sometimes when you read for yourself you are only looking at the surface when as you know tarot is very multi-layered...like onions! So have no fear..I think a lot of people have been in your shoes. It's also important to remember that what you want now may not be in the Universe's plan. THere have been so many things I've wanted. And believe me I wanted them bad. And I was devestated when I didn't get them. BUt now I look back and know that I am better off not having those things. It worked out for the best. Just keep in mind that things have a way of working out for the best.

I do not have a job for the past six month, I apply for a job in two different places then i decided to do a reading asking if I will get a job in any of the places I just apply, the tower card came up wich disappoint me.

sandra maria br  06 Jul 2002
well thats it if you are dissapointed with the tower that means you do not see the "light"yetand do not realley dare to take a change to trow away your walls of for example your saftey your securaty or your thinking concentrate more and trow another card greetins sandra

Lili: It is not entirely clear from your post if The Tower appeared within the context of a spread, or as a one-card draw in response to a question regarding employment.

If it was the former, taking *one* card out of a throw & interpreting only it as "the answer" to a question will not serve you. Indeed, interpreting *any* card out of its context is misleading.

If it was the latter, then The Tower is indicating a big change is in the works. Since you indicate you have been unemployed for some time, The Tower could refer to a change in the status quo. What type of change being referred to may be indicated in surrounding cards, if any. Since it appears the interpretation of the throw is important to you, I reiterate the previous suggestion to post it on Your Readings.

Hi Meewah the reading i did was a one card reading, thanks for your help.

debins  06 Jul 2002
and I Just wanted to direct your close attention to what MeeWah wrote about The Tower and change. I'm quite new to Tarot but from what I have understood, The Tower denotes dramatic change. Soooo, I'm hoping that means for you a dramatic change away from unemployment.
Sending positive thoughts into the ether about you getting employment that is both lucrative and interesting.
Namaste,
Debins.

Thanks for all your reply, I have a more positive view of this reading now.
