Realization

I just realized something. The first tarot deck that i ever got was the Autherian legand tarot deck. My brother bought it for me a little while ago. Well i read alot with it and did the best readings that i think i have ever done. But for some reason i started using other decks. Right now i was using the Universal Waite tarot deck. But right now i realized that the deck that i should be using is my Autherian deck. It was weird i was sitting down watching trading spaces and this just hit me. So i was wondering has that ever happened to any of you....like realized that you were using the wrong tarot deck??? or is it just me....lol...hope not

Sorry, couldn't resist. :D Yes, I've had it happen. I use multiple decks to read, based on my preference or my querent's preference. When I bought the Robin Wood deck, I got it because I love her artwork and wanted it. But when I opened it I just couldn't seem to read with it. So I put it away for quite a while. Later, when a good friend was looking at my collection, she asked if I would do a reading for her. Of course I said "If you'd like." And she said "yes, and could you use this beautiful deck" pointing to... you guessed it... the Robin Wood deck. So I told her the trouble I'd had in the past and she said "but it looks so special, would you try it again, for me?" Well... this old hermit has a hard time resisting requests from attractive younger women (yeh, yeh, I know I'm a nasty old man!) So I sighed and said ok. Guess what? The reading went just fine (duh!!!) and I've been using the deck now for many regular readings. I've had similar experiences (not many though, I'm sad to say, involving attractive women... oh well... sigh) with other decks not working at first, being put away, and then working fine later.

Hm... Not while reading, I don't think it has. But yes, of course I get the urge to take out a deck I haven't used in a while, like spending time with a friend I haven't seen in a while! But then again, sometimes when I've done a reading with one deck, I can't resist the temptation of laying it all out again, with a different deck, just to see what it would say...! But I always finish the reading before I do that, it's more of a curiosity thing! If you think you've used the "wrong" deck, why don't you do a clarification spread afterwards? Or you can ditch the first reading, of course, and start over, but I'd be too afraid to loose some important information if I did that...! ;) Good luck! Jenny :)

I had a querent once who had trouble making up his mind about which deck to use, and the one he picked..just as soon as I laid out the first spread, I knew this particular deck wasn't for him and I chose an entirely different deck for him and gave him a 100% accurate reading off of the deck I chose for him. So yes, sometimes our gut instinct just takes over. Remember, always trust your gut!!! Blessings, M.

I like all my decks and can generally read with any of them. But I do let folks select when I read, and I have noticed that works out well. One of my friends just loves the Osho Zen deck. In fact she will never select any other deck, lol, it really seems to like her, too! Gives her great readings. One thing I have noticed, when doing doing readings for folks here on Aeclectic (so they can't pick), I find I am generally strongly drawn to one deck or another. The strongest impulse I ever had was when I read for Mystick Dragon. I felt the strongest pull towards the fantasy deck, Tarot of Oz. Turned out to be a very good choice.
