Archaeological Tarot Consultant:
I would enjoy visiting ancient sites and doing tarot to acertain what dramas went on there, using tarot & the pendulum to locate buried treasure, & doing readings on mysterious unearthed objects.
Failing that, I might enjoy having a metaphysical emporium (prefer New England or Old England/Ireland) and using tarot readings to counsel viperous little teen witches to keep them from personal disaster.
Not ruling out the possibility of sculpting tarot & metaphysical images; Tarot Product Designer.

My fantasy tarot dream job?
Being surrounded by tarot decks day in and day out, which I could study and learn from and enjoy at my leisure...
Well, I'm halfway there, anyway (still hoping to achieve the "at my leisure" part one of these days...)

I wonder if I could actually do that. I think I will one day. :D
I'll be a Tarot-psychiatrist. I'll use Tarot to heal. :)
Probably I'll work with kids. Fairy tales and archetypes are much more effective.

Hmmm.....I would like to read cards out of my home for clients and friends. I'd like to be the "neighborhood psychic", so to speak. Have you seen the movie "The Gift"? Something like that except without all of the drama. Of course my version would look different because I live next to downtown Denver. :-)
I'd also like to teach tarot classes to adults.

Weaving together storywriting and tarot cards/archetypes and learning how to become a decent illustrator so I can depict my characters in various cards/scenes - and, of course, getting paid to do all of this.
I recently did a five of cups that I like (conceptually), in which the male protagonist is sitting in the foreground staring at three plain basic drinking vessels, tipped over; it may be the contents seeping into the sand, or perhaps the spilled cups are just casting shadows of "what was." The man is sitting on a barren patch of dull brown earth, perhaps a shoreline along a lake or river. In the background, on a grassy knoll, stands the female protagonist, looking all sunny and earthy and everything the pallid drab depressive male is not. She is bearing two large golden chalices, her arms and hands aloft in the classic prayer/invocation ("orans") posture of liturgical use and old mosaics and stuff like that. Basically, it's supposed to be an amplification of the theme that the five of cups bears the hope of what remains and might yet be, if only one would turn around and stop dwelling on what used to be and cannot be recovered: The two of cups is contained within the five, leading to the ten, if that makes sense. Anyway, I liked the end result, except for the fact that my drawing skills are rather, um, primitive.

I would also like use tarot cards for story illustrations, too. In my case it would be to come up with a fictional story and use the cards to show scenes that might otherwise be better no to convey with words. I already have an idea that I have been working on, and know how the cards should look to illustrate it. (actually have the written part of the major arcana down).
Still can't draw beyond stick figures for the most part so if I get too far on this, I will either have to get some artist friend to help or start using photography and collage like mad.
Barring that- I can be Violet G, Tarot Hunter (Feel the heat, Irwin!) I can almost see it now: Hunting down mysterious decks in exotic locales and khaki outfits. Leaping into the water to wrestle a deck, struggling with it to gain control before it gives me a non-descript reading. Actually it would be more like looking for what past cultures would use as their divinatory practices. All those anthropology classes that I have had sparking my interest.

I'm with emily2otters but would also like to be a tarot counselor. By that I mean I would like to take the readings a step farther and really help people on an emotional level. I'd also like to teach tarot and use different cards as the basis for short stories/fairy tale like stories for kids.
Blessings all, Michelle

Actually, Lori and I could use an extra hand or two these days; there's been a lot to do. The "catch" is the pay level. We'd be willing to pay employees the same wage that Lori and I have been making so far, which is... (hmmm, let's see, carry the one, subtract, check the result)... exactly zero dollars per hour. LOL!
(Actually, I'm not kidding about our "wages," but I'm not complaining, either -- it takes a couple of years for most startup businesses to show a profit, and in the meantime, as I said, I'm living at least half of my tarot fantasy job!)
However, depending on where folks live, I wouldn't object to having someone who is good at readings present during any shows I attend. I do not read for other people, but of course, in my line of work, there are always people stopping by my table who insist that I do a reading for them. If anyone is going to be in the San Jose, CA area over Labor Day weekend, I'd be willing to make a corner of my sales area at the World SF convention available for paid readings. I'm also trying to arrange another trip to St. Louis, MO in October. I'm serious -- I invite any readers to contact me at jkr@tarotgarden.com if they're interested in more details.

i have several dream jobs w/ tarot:
1. readings from my home
2. getting my counseling license and starting up a counseling practice where i use tarot as one of my tools
3. teach college classes on tarot as a tool of archetypal psychology, fairy tale, and myth. it doesn't matter if i do it via the net or in reality.
4. professional freelance writer. i'd use tarot as my guide for plote developments and even include the cards when appropriate. i also would like to write articles on tarot for metaphysical type mags and newspapers.
5. tarot artist-whether painting tarot inspired imagery, creating cards, jewelry or living quarters for that much beloved deck.
of course, nothing could beat the tarot hunter! violet g, i'm w/ you! it sounds so adventurous!

I am still on the lookout for that illusive "Crickey" card.
I would be kind of a neat thing though- to go to all sorts of different countries and find a local artist, give them a written list of archtypes for the major arcana and see what they draw with it. Sort of like the tarot project here, but bigger and unconditioned (cause we here have seen lot of versions of the archtypes already)
It's also an excuse to wear all that khaki....

I would like to have a bookstore stocked with every deck available, sample copies OPEN with ALL CARDS welcome for viewing. People could pick out the deck that speaks to them and I would help them do so.
Until that day, I would like to write reviews of decks. I mean to do some for Aeclectic when I get the time, but if I can write reviews for pay, it would be great...

I would love to read tarot for all the young executives out there!
(I live in Melbourne-Collins street is full of them), to help them see another side of life apart from work and to help dispell the myth that tarot is only for gypsies!!
I do not look anything like the stereotypical tarot reader- single 25yr old female, lives in a studio apartment with her cat, dresses in suit for work etc etc etc- you get the picture.
Hmmmm, I'm on to something here.........

another dream tarot job-designer tarot clothing. tarot: not just for readers anymore! design clothing inspired by different cards like the hermit robe or t-shirts w/ cards. designer tarot jewelry made out of a variety of materials. jewelry that isn't directly a copy of a card but inspired by the archetype, colors or whatever about the card that is inspirational and can be interpreted into jewelry.
then there's curtains, linoleum, rugs, sheets, pillowcases, comforters, and furniture designed w/ tarot in mind.

I'll take a Hermit robe. ;)

And shower curtains and matching accessories. Your guests will love the Star, Moon, or Sun, but might get a bit freaked out by the Devil, especially if you base it on the Morgan-Greer. :D

i'm like tarotphelia, i'd like to use tarot to discern information about the past.
i love doing the past life readings, i think it's fascinating, so it would make sense that i would enjoy doing readings on ancents - cultures, areas, artifacts - as well.
i'd like to do this part time, as the other time i would be out ghost hunting in haunted houses and talking with the spirits!

I would love to start a Tarot School that would explore ALL aspects of the tarot. Have classes at different levels for each. I would then like to hire each of you in your areas of expertise to teach, and use Thirteen's Basics for the Introduction to Tarot class. Personally I would like to dedicate my time to conducting research probably in the areas of Qabalistic connections to the tarot, and symbology. I would like to write some scholarly articles (but in layman terms so poeple can understand) comparing decks on this basis, and teach a beginner to internmediate level course using 78 Degrees of Wisdom as the text. If I could only win the lottery ....

Your idea is soooooooooooooo so nice. And don't forget Tarot Magick... I definitely agree with you, it would be great to have an istituzionalized, academic tarot school.
Your works could also help mine in psychiatry. I could set up a study in your Tarotical Academy... ;)

*LOL* ... WOW! two volunteers already ~giggles~ ... Laurel those are exactly the types of courses I had in mind. Pollux perhaps you could explore teaching a course on psychology and the tarot :)
As for classes on specific decks I think we would have to let the students vote and when we have X amount of students or more then we could do specific deck directed classes (and yes Pollux the Gill is yours! *LOL*). I would have to invite Kayne to co-teach a Cosmic Tribe Class with me if we could generate the interest *LOL*.
Think of the deck creation classes we could observe. To invite popular tarot artists to speak to the students (and us of course) about deck creation and design.
Have Tarot experts such as Rachel Polloack, Mary Greer, Angeles Arien, and so on come and give lectures or special workshops! ... learn the business of how to gain attention to get published. The possibilities are endless!
Just imagine what our campus "cardshop" would look like! Maybe Tarot Garden could move in *LOL*.
But that is my real true dream! I would be so busy attending classes I would never get my work done *ROFLMAO*. Thank Goddess dreaming is free ~giggles~

I would love to be a faire and festival reader. You know, the really big cool ones like Starwood and Rites of Spring. There are loads of these, but the vendor's fees are prohibitive, (for me, at least, right now) and if one is going to go on the road, a small RV is recommended. More than anything I would love to travel around and read, enjoy the festivals, and meet all sorts of cool, interesting people. Umbrae, I don't know how to read runes yet! I am, however studying the Rune thread information, since I love runes, and have had much success with them in spellcasting.

Well Umbrae we could always expand you know *LOL* ... It is starting to become a collective dream, not just my own ... How about you become the Academic Director for the Rune Department ;) ... see now you can develop all sorts of curricula about runes and their use. Also would an intro class in runes would be very helpful because several decks (Haindl and Tarot of The Old Path come to mind) do use or have runes in them! But since I no nothing of runes this department will have to be your baby and I will be delighted to be a student! Other than the classes we can special lectures too!
Truthsayer ... you are on! Love your ideas, and would love to take the creative writting class using tarot! I actually bought a book on "Teach Yourself to Write Science Fiction and Fantasy" for which I plan to use my tarot deck collection to inspire me! I want to seriously give fantasy writting a shot :) ... who knows maybe some day I can become rich and famous and we can really start this dream school of ours *LOL*.
