Rescuing a poopie reading.

I just did a 3 card draw for a woman which looked to be total disaster. A Tower, 10 of Swords kind of thing.

My first inclination was to tell her to shave her head and become a nun.

However, being the resourceful reader that only an Aeclectic Tarot subscriber can be (a shameless plug for Solandia), I did another draw.

I was tempted to simply discard the first draw and do another new reading. However, I believe every draw is significant.

This time, I asked the question of how to overcome adversity. The result was that she recognized the existence of a tough time ahead, but was given a suggested approach to help her get past the challenges. If you haven't tried this approach, give it a shot - you have nothing to lose.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Divinerguy! I also agree that every draw is significant.

BTW, LOVE that avatar - a test screen! How perfect for you! ;) I can't find a fig leaf in there, though.... })

love you DG! i'm glad you brought this up, because last night i got the 9 of swords in my "what's just begun" thing. but i'm like, "hmmm. i'm not depressed. i don't feel ill. i'm not going into financial ruin"

well, the interesting thing is that the picture in this deck shows a guy with his hand toward his face, crying, like he is in mourning.
and then i realized, it looked just like me! not an hour earlier i had been looking all close at my face, plucking eyebrows, wondering where these marks and imperfections were coming from, worrying about going to a dermatologist for little bumps i dont recognize.

so the card, instead of saying "ooo, you've got bad times a-comin'" was really a reflection of what i had actually just been doing. kinda creepy and weird. but sometimes i think the cards aren't always a blanket statement, and can be interpreted differently depending on their feel.

like the 9 of swords might mean illness in one reading, and in another it might mean being to harsh with yourself. being too cynical. having problems with low blood sugar, which makes you evil sometimes. you know what i mean?

anyway, thanks for addressing this, because i think what you did was great. look deeper into what is going on to really find out the information for the client.

yay you!

i just wanted to write and congratulate you on your excellent use of the word "poopie". yay! you don't see that in print everyday, you know.

:D

I had one such 'poopie' reding last night.... I just couldn't make tail end of it at all! So, to help e out, I drew a clarificatio card for each of the original cards... ANd it helped immensey...

So,k that's what I usually do. Its not QUIE re-shuffling and doing the whole reading again, just helping make more sense of it!

i love using clarification cards...............they can make soooo much sense out of bunch of cards that just don't add up.

I have been in the habit of writing down every reading I do. And if I do one for somebody else, I ask them to write theirs down too. I do this, because I have done some really poopie readings, mainly for myself. Not only were they poopie, they were downright weird-ass, and seemed to make NO sense at all. At the time.
I found that in many cases, what I thought were bogus readings, tricks of Ellegua, etc, were really readings who's time had not come. I wasn't aware of the subtle connexions being made. When I started writing them down, things that I had thought were absolutely silly nonsense were suddenly very accurate.

How absolutely true, DE! I keep a journal too, and for the same reason: when readings come up that seemingly have no relation to current events, sometimes these things come to pass later...eesh...and I'm glad I hung on to them.

As far as "poopie" readings go, very seldom do I get one that's so bad I don't want to tell my client what the heck the cards said. Most of the time, I can look beyond what the surface is saying and get some kind of hope beyond the immediate "danger, Will Robinson" outlook. There's always hope. This is not to say I'm going to give someone false hope; there are times when circumstances are unavoidable. Nevertheless, it's a question of "ok, this is the thing, now what do I have to do to reconcile it" kind of thing. That's the hope.

:) Terrific topic, DG :)

Like Jade, I have really found the clarification card will sometimes completely pull together a group of cards that seem to have no connection to each other (or the question).

Writing everything down really helps me too. I only started because I kept reading here that so many found it helpful. In addition to sometimes making sense of things later, I've also found that when I write the meanings will sometimes become more clear than when I was just looking at the spread.

I always use some claifying cards in a "poopie" reading (luckily, they do not occur too often, only once in a while).
