I've been srudying the Tarot for about 7 years now and I still have so, so, soooo much to learn. One question I have that I've been working with for a little while is the use of certain crystals while reading the Tarot. Do they help? Is this nonsense? What kind of crystals should I invest in or should I invest in a crystal at all? Any help or advice on the subject would be greatly appreciated! :)

hi evangelion,
i sometimes use crystals, when i am doing an important reading, but i would not say they are something that you need. if you do choose to use them, i recommend a clear quartz, as a great all purpose crystal. it also inhances the powers of other gems. amethyst is also great for intuition and communications with the powers that be. i use rose quartz for readings concerning love and relationships.

I mostly use crystals to cleanse my decks or negative energies. I rarely use them in a reading, but when I do, I use a quartz crustal, for clarity, an amethyst for intuition, and something black, like jet, or obsidian to remove negative vibes form the area.
I would sugges that if you want to learn more about crystals, and use them, the get "Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Crystal, Gem, and Metal Magic" by Scott Cunningham. If you are buying for the firs time, then I suggest only getting a few crystals; clear quartz, amethyst(which is a purple quartz), rose quartz, and maybe obsidian, to remove bad vibes.
Also, at the bottom of the main forum page, there is a section for study group forums, and one of the study gruops is on Crystals and Gems.
Hope this helps!

I have a few crystals and trinkets which I wrap up with my cards. When I lay out the cloth I place a crystal or trinket in each corner. They have either been gifts or things I have been compelled to buy. One in fact is just a black stone. I didn't start out with all of the, they have just somehow joined me over the years.
I think the most important thing is to do what is right for you. The whole process of doing a reading is a ritual and it's very personal so what works for you is what you do. If you see a crystal or stone that you are very drawn to then buy it and you can incorporate it into your own ritual. Or, if you feel there is a particular type of energy that you need enhanced, you could choose a crystal that might help in that area.
I am a big believer in the fact that there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to these things. THe process will only work if it works for you so do what feels right and then it will all fall into place.
Hope this helps

I have 2 lamps on my reading table: one made of amethyst, the other one made of rock salt, I usually light them during readings.
I also regularly use crystals when I do spell work with tarot cards.

As Angela said: Go with the flow!
See what works for you, and act only according to your own sensitivity and perception.
Your question is related to Tarot Reading:
Well, I have a big Amethyst Druse, and sometimes I use it as NORTH in my circle. At times I want to cast a circle when I read, especially if I am reading for myself, and know I need help for focusing.
The Amethyst DOES work well. But I hardly ever use it for readings, since the stone is too big, and a bit clumsy for me, and also because at times, soon after a very lucid moment of extremem receptiveness, intuition and quickness, my brain felt stuffed, and I got sleepy... *LOL*
But it works very well for heightening. I guarantee... }) *LOL*
The sensorial boundaries become thiner. And the mind is much... lighter, cleaner, and the power of discernment and undestanding are enhanced.
You could also try Amber as a Psychic Enhancer. or Aquamarine, or Lapis Lazuli. Or Corniole and Moonstone.
As the others said, Quartz is all-purposes too.
As for other used, I mentioned Earth/North the times I cast the circle, and th other mentioned the Spell-Casting and Cleansing/Absorbing use.
What else? Mh... Can't think of other uses... *LOL*

Thanks so much for all the help, this is really helpful! I live just a few blocks away from a really cool shop that carries all kinds of crystals, gemstones, and such. I just never really thought some of these incredible little beauties would turn out to be so useful! I'll definetely go browsing again soon!
