happy halloween all--
well, i'm not too sure how to take this one:
i was putting my halloween deck into it's bag. the deck slipped out of my hands, and landed on the table. but two cards flew out to the floor.
the nine of bats (swords) and the star.
seems like an ultimate yin/yang pair: hopeless and hopeful
i'm not sure how to take this one except perhaps i'll have a perfectly balanced day...
pumpkins galore

It's the theme of the celebration.
To turn fear into re-found courage.
To turn nightmares into new hopes.
To turn darkness into light! ;)

Sounds like a fair prediction for Halloween, Ravenswing! For me Halloween is just an excuse to get that freaky mask I've been wanting...it's sooo commercial nowadays, heh heh. Boo!

A Hallowe’en Wish
As another cold sleep approaches
And the boughs take on their sunset hues
Let us find mystery, not sadness
In the stillness of the dark.
Just for tonight,
Let us delight in our fears,
Laugh together at ourselves
And celebrate our sense of magic.
May the ghosts & spirits around us
Remind us how alive we are.
Happy Hallowe'en to my new friends at Aeclectic !

Far out Dangerdork!
I'd love to email that to friends if you don't mind. I'll credit you with authorship, of course.
Thanks,
Fuzz

Thank you for the poem Dangerdork/Martin. It will go on my fridge. I wish there were more people I could share it with but my circle is mostely atheists with little sense of magic or mystery.

I'm honored to be on your fridge Myrrha!
Tell your atheist friends to lighten up!!!
"Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence"
I posted it here cuz I figured folks in this forum shared that sense of mystery and magic with me, but I thought it kind of expressed the universality of that part of the human condition in a way that wouldn't offend the fundies... ah well, nice to know it reached at least a couple people :)

Thank you, Dangerdork/Martin!
Your fame increases, as of tomorrow morning, your poem will be on a small bulletin board, next to a desk, where someone who wants to hold onto that sense of magic, dispatches service calls to plumbers.

Raven:
Sorry, didn' mean to get your thread so off track. Actually, though, that was part of the intent of the poem - that whole passing of the seasons, transformational vibe of the Death card, the way people so fear it and the formalization in custom and ritual of having one special occasion when the lines are blurred between this world and the next.
It wasn't necessarily "inspired" by Raven's spread, as sparrowspirit suggested, but I thought it seemed relevant.
Thanks for all your compliments everyone -- I'm sure there are plenty of you who write poetry out there, and you know how hard it is to judge your own work when it's "fresh" : when you just wrote it, it always seems like the greatest thing you ever wrote, you need a buffer of time to judge your own work. But if it reaached some of my new friends here, then it accomplished the things that poetry, and art are all about - it made people say, "yeah, i've felt that way too; " and maybe even helped them capture that feeling again.
I'll definitely share more in the future ;)

Actually, we had a Tarot Poetry thread some time ago.... rotting in the archives now... I'm too tired to dig it up now (past 1 a.m. here ... yes, I'm crazy, I know ), just wanted to let you know about the possibilities ;)

Ravenswing: I like your succinct summation of your cards: yin & yang. It helps to retain a sense of humor. Depending on what is occurring in the life, they could be saying that 'tis always darkest before the dawn, but there is always Hope. Sometimes, we need a reminder to hold onto our dreams & aspirations; to not give up.
Did you find the cards to describe the day or a particular situation?
