My daughter got a set of shrinky dinks for her birthday. I've been playing around with tracing an enlarged copy of my favorite card and coloring it in with good quality color pencils. My first attempt turned out pretty nice. I'm going to use the result to decorate my Tarot Journal although you could use it for jewelery.
Just thought I'd pass this along.
By the way it's easy and fun.

Shrinky dinks are so cool!!! I didn't know that they still had those around. Where does one obtain them? This sounds like a really neat idea. You could make a whole tarot jewelry set. *lol* But of course it would take a necklace, bracelet, anklet, earrings... well, heck, maybe a whole set of bangles, if you wanted to wear the whole deck. Ohhh, you know what else it would be good for? Wineglass markers for parties or a little trinket for the tie on party treat bags/favors.
Thanks for sharing, Woof!

There is this clear plastic material that you can draw on. Then you cut out whatever it is that you've drawn and bake it in an oven. The baking makes the material shrink and harden. So it makes little things like charms.

Never heard of shrinky dinks before this, but they sound so cool...a great messy(for me) way to spend an afternoon! Like Keslynn asked, where can we get them? How much are they?

You can get them through Amazon.com, at Michaels (craft store) and Zany Brainy toys. I'd also try other toy stores like Toys-R-Us.
Even if your a clutz these are way easy. Also, since your work of art shrinks down to less that 1/4 the size of the original 1) any mistakes you make dissappear and the finished product looks beter that the original and 2) you may want to photocopy and enlarge your card before you trace it.
Crack out those color pencils and markers and have some fun!

WooH! Cool! :D This does look like fun. :) When we were kids we used to make charms and stuff out of baking an empty Twisties packet. It would shrink and go hard, much like this I imagine. But being able to create your own design! I wanna' have a go at this... :D

Are you supposed to draw and colour on the plastic itself and then cut it out?

Yes you draw and color on the plastic, cut it out, then bake it

Oh and if you are making a charm, make sure you put a hole in it efore you shrink, itd be a pain afterward. Some people actually draw a little loop at the top to put the hole in (actually a fairly big loop and hole, remember itll shrink) so that the hole doesnt go through the art, some just punch a hole through the art itself, just make sure you make your hole large enough that it doesnt disappear when it shrinks. Site says they shrink to 1/3 the original size so keep that in mind.
