I am very excited because this Sunday I will be going to my first tarot class at a local bookstore. I have tried for the longest time trying to read books and doing practice readings and can never seem to get a good grasp of things. I get distracted very easily. I am hoping that when I go to class, I will have both the students and instructor to motivate me. Has anyone here taken a class before? and did it help a lot?

well, I've never gone to an actual class, but I've taught quite a few! Let us know how it goes.

Wow, you taught classes, DeLani? I'm curious to know how you conducted it, what your "curriculum" was, and what materials you used to teach it. Btw, there's Joan Bunning's free course going on at barnes and noble.com, too.

tarotbrat: I love going to Tarot courses. When one ends, I always look out for a new one. Although most are beginners courses, and once you've done a couple of those, one has to sometimes hunt for the more advanced ones, which are not always advertised. But once one starts meeting people who are interested in Tarot, one gets to know all sorts of people who know people who know other people.
Hope you enjoy your class! Tell us about it, please. What you learn, how it's set up, how many hours in all, etc. etc.

Tarotbrat, I'm so jealous :P *LOL* Enjoy your course!!! :D:D:D
DeLani, please, why don't you come over and start some classes as a teacher?
In exchange I offer to put you up and feed you. And consider how beautiful Italy is! ;)
Please accept!!! :D *LOL*

I have never attended a tarot class, but that's only because as far as I know there was never one near me.
Now I don't think I really "need" it anymore, but I would still enjoy it to get new inspiration (if only from being with other tarot people)
But what the heck, Aeclectic is also a very good school :D

well i took 2 courses, each one at a different bookstore. the teaching styles are very different but they both proved to be very valuable to me. a lot of the things that both instructors were going over i had also learned here at Aeclectic. so for all the new folks that are just beginning to learn tarot, read and be open to what is posted here on Aeclectic because, there is a wealth of information here. in the classes i took, i got to practice and make new friends and get more different perspectives on the cards.
my first course taught me to listen and trust my intuition and learned different spreads. my second course taught me some details to look out for in the cards and to also listen and trust my intuition and how to care for the cards.
i loved both of my courses and would continue to take more if they were offered.

I would love to do a tarot course, but unfortunately they are a bit expensive around here, I'll have to look better and see if I can find anything suitable for my purse... or I can always ask delani to stop in lisbon, on her way to italy.... lisbon is also a beatiful city, and I offer bed + breakfast :D

The Barnes and Noble one is FREE, you can even use Joan Bunning's website instead of the book to do it (although I like the book so I'd say it is worth doing). You get to interact with lots of tarot enthusiasts from complete beginners to people who have been reading for some time.
They tend to run one every other month or so, the current one is still open.
