No discussion thread for Tarot of the Northern Shadows yet...do most people dislike it? I been trying to classify my celtic/Arthurian decks in a monthly/seasonal way and this seems very wintery. Beautiful white spaces, delicate lines, but there's a kind of stoic or slightly resigned look to the expressions. Not quite grim, but definitely reminds me of Midwestern faces in winter when we go back there for Xmas. I need to find the Howard Rodway book and would appreciate any feedback. I've got a Mabinogion collection of stories, discounted...
In a related topic, I'm thinking of making a 'Celtic Segment' to my reading tarots/topical studies next year, so that I study a bit of a celtic tarot each month. So far I'm classifying art colors by a kind of seasonal assignment.
Legend is full of subtle late springlike colors under green leaves or twilight, Glastonbury is rich and autumnal to me and Merlin or Hallowquest/Arthurian is precise and bright, as summer. There are other theme decks, but the celtic decks really show many romantic and natural scenes...or look back to art that sometimes predates medieval times, say around 1100 to 1300...I'm wandering and thinking of the Greenwood now.
Anyway, just wondering if you out there are reading with Celtic decks, maybe using different ones in a seasonal or topical way for your study, enjoyment. Any comment, especially on Glastonbury (my current feel good) and Northern Shadows, is welcome.
