selling yourself

ok guys and girls,

I am setting up my email website, and have done all but the 'about me' page - the front page - because I got as far as saying Hi and welcome to my site.... and then mysteriously this woman with 'always something to say', suddenly got an attack of stagefright, and could not go on. Like I was embarressed to write anymore than a typical bio.
Trouble is, without any advertising of my strong points, I'm just another email reading site really.
Anyone else gone through this? Any ideas for self promotion on my about page?
I'm not looking to bend the truth, or invent it, just to emphasize my strengths in a professional manner.

I look forward to your contributions

Pretty please

Allibee: Have ye checked out websites to see how others have set theirs? You can get ideas from those.

Think of the project as writing ad copy. In any ad, the purpose is to sell a product. Your aim is to sell yourself & your services *and* moreover, to stand out from the rest of the pack offering the same. The idea is to catch the attention of the viewing audience, so the use of eye-catching graphics & contrasting colors would help. You might include a recent photograph. Follow up the visual attention with text enumerating your strong points & your speciality--such as "I specialize in...". Be confident, to the point & business-like. Also, consider lining up references in case you want to include that references are available.

God/dess bless!!

I haven't managed to put any personal information on my website either. I just can't do it. (I mean my main site about counselling, not my tarot website which is still in its infancy.)

I wonder if it would help to use the third person, like they recommend you do for a CV? It sounds less boastful to say:
'She is a talented reader, with x years experience.' than to say 'I am a talented reader ...'

Maybe you could do a brainstorm and write everything down you can think of about your talents. Ask people you've read for for their comments to include on the site (and offer them anonymity if they want it :) )

Please let us know when you've got it up and running :)

You can find very good ideas on how to write a very good bio about yourself in this web site go, click under the pictures on the word "BIO" I'm one of the psychics, my picture is there, here is the site[www.allstarpsychics.com/page1.html] we all had to take a recent clear picture specially for the web site so Meewah is right about taking a good photograph. I hope this give you some ideas.

Also, take a look at our own member websites. You'll find links on the members pages button at the top of every Aclectic page.

hehe .... yeah, trying to think of something to put up on your site is hard, isn't it? LOL! I struggle with it all the time.

Just put any information you think your visitors need to know up there.

Ok, that doesn't really stand up on its own!

Private homepage...
Be honest about yourself, be proud of the things you have achieved, however meaningless you may think it may seem to someone else...after all this is YOUR private little spot on the net, so stick the flag in and claim it.
You don;t have to build anything up, or play it down, especially if its something you worked hard for...
Feel proud of the white space...its encouragement to fill it in!
To be honest, i think writing in 3rd person might come across as a little pretentious..
on the other hand, have you considered getting your friends and family to write little biographical pieces to add in?

Business self-promo...
the best CV writing scheme I;ve seen is this one:

good luck!

i think everyone has difficulty writing about themselves, always worrying about sounding egotistical, yet at the same time they can write great things about other people!
try this, write (or type!) a list of everything you want to say about yourself. then try and pretend that you are writing about another person and that this list is the info that you need to include in their bio. you could even make-up another name if it helps and then just substitute yours when you finished.
you never know, it might do the trick!

I've made a personal homepage not to long ago and allthough I'm usually quite introvert I found it remarkebly easy to write about personal things on the internet. I guess I just saw it as a diary or something, I just started writing things down and before I realised it I had filled a few pages. It wasn't untill my friends called me brave for showing so much of myself that I started feeling shy and even a bit ashamed. What would people think about me?

The only advise I can give you is to be completle honest and to show a bit of your soul. Other people will admire and respect you for being honest and personal and I believe they will be inclined to trust you much easier.
If I had to choose a counseler, I would pick the one that dared to show the most of his/hers own heart, for he/she will most likely treat mine with the most respect.

pay for a reading offered on an internet site that does not have the reader's name on it. A real name, that I can find on a telephone list and all. When people charge for a service they must hold themselves accountable for the service they charge.
