ah umbrae
you borught up jackson pollack and your dislike for him, i like the movie. (yes roundabout point i am making as i have no idea where i go with this eheh)
in the movie he says " i deny the accident,"
as tarot readers we deny the accident by making every card mean something :O)
and in the movie the person was telling him it was too blue, and jackson was going to change it to appease him to lighten the blue and just before he did he stopped and couldnt' do it,,
as tarot readers we get to the point where we divine,, and give the reading and the person goes can't it mean that,, and we say no , and that they say ,, and we say no,, why ?
for we are tarot artists reading a tarot it is our art and therefore we cannot change our reading.
i liken it to the madonnas fo the world who dont' change the way they sing the song to appease someone. for they are artists,, that is why madonna touched herself eheh in truth and dare the movie.
in truth dont' most of the artists create from their ego as well as their higher self as the light must be interpated from the mind. :O) and so art can transcend the ego but it is also birthed in it.. even if the ego jsut gives it a coding for other to understand. so the tarot artists readings ineviblly comes from their ego as well as their essence self. that is how no two readings are the same,, like no one one song is sung exactly the same by two people :O).
sometiems it is the simple artwork which grows on us (shining tribe art by racheal pollack)
simple answers that reach us ( will we love each other, two of cups, sun and the lovers , yes for many life time is the answer)
and so johnny cash with his primitive but huanting sound is unique and special,
so it is ok if we are tarot artists use primitive readings (base knowledge like eden gray) as once a reader has it, he alwasy has it (johnny cash said on the highwayman video once you got it ,,you alwasy got it eheh)
waylon jennings says you got the right to try it your way once :O)
so as a tarot reader it becomes time to leave the emperoric, and hieorphantic ways of teachers, and move on, on one's own.
despite our inner demons we must preserve
the interesting thing to notice is .
jackson was an acholoic
madonna well that is another story
johnny cash had drug problems
waylon jennings had drug problems
the point is we all got our problems,, would anyone say anything if johnny cash was just a construction worker but had the same drug problems ? good father, husband,, just hunted by his own demons and addction. he would of stilled touched those around him with his personality.
so as tarot readers despite our problems, we are artists applying our trade,, making our way the only way we know how ,, ours own. :O)
just as beetoven went for training before he went his own way,
we go for trianing the only way we know by workshops,, studying the works of the masters (mary , racheal, robin)
mediate to find our inner voice
and start making our art. (the best tarot readers we can be, or scholars)
so with a good foundation we can move forward :O)
then you have the truly gifted artists who never studied music, got the ear, and the voice, and the harmonica, and can play, and sing like awesome gifted great.
it is true they were born with gifts,, but they had a basic foundation.
somewhere along the way they had their influences that they learned from like listening to old blues singers and copying them.
as tarot readers it is hard for us to do yet,, as we dont' give audio tape readings on universal knowledge that is accepted all over the world (but someday it will happen :O) l
so as tarot artists, you will run across the person who just knows the structure and base meanings,, and flows like a water fountain of spiritual information. one way is not better then the other..
it is just that one get notice more by the masses.
(edited to add this was supposed to be a thread on its own but i hit the wrong button ,, can someone split this )

i like your theory very much, holmes. just from the enormous number artists out there who are creating tarot decks, it shows that tarot is like an universal language. it's like if an artists can't get their art to be noticed any other way then doing a deck will likely be noticed. how many of us tarot-holics partically collect b/c it's a good way to procure lots of different art work in a more affordable format. artists also struggle with having their work understood. when we all start studying a new deck, isn't that study aimed at understanding the art so we can make interpretations?
in class yesterday, one of the students said he was thinking about designing some tarot cards. i never would have given him credit for thinking of such things b/c he's so heavy into japanese anime. so i told him i had the miracle deck since he like anime and knows about the tarot. i entered the graphic design program considering using the skill to make a deck but i felt i would have to keep my mission a secret. now it seems i'm not as unique as i thought and there are others that think like me. it's really a relief. i'm tired of being afraid of talking about tarot b/c this area is so fundamentalist. but i'm hoping perhaps if it's not as big an issue as i thought then i can at least come out of the tarot closet. i'm tired of being afraid of being burned at the stake!
i just want to speak my own truths just like anyone else except mine seem to be coming more graphics, photos and canvas. it's like creating a language i know how to speak and if my methods are universally appealing others will be able to learn to speak my language, too. what a happy thought!!
