sorry calling number 4 the head of household is politically incorrect, plenty of times the female is what is considered the head of the household, and to think of it 3 as the nurturing parent is wrong too, often the dad fills this role, unless you are putting both sexes on both cards, then thats ok hehe

:THP

right, of COURSE all persons portrayed are genderless and have grey skin. or maybe green or purple -- guess they're Archetypes Of Color.

and they're bald. kinda like rota's international icon tarot...

That was part of the game, removing the genders from roles.
but maybe we need another card for the Non Traditional Family...

C'mon, SOMEBODY laugh! None of my friends would ever GET this...

TheFoolofChaos  26 Nov 2002
Very clever indeed!

Now make this deck ;)

In Chaos

The Fool

p.s. I vote for blue skin!

allibee  26 Nov 2002
They should be hermaphrodidic (sp?) worms, blue, hermaphrodidic worms *LOL*

Yeah, now make this deck :)

MeeWah  26 Nov 2002
Dangerdork: O, those are marvelous--I LOVE it!! I find #6 & #13 especially funny :D Is this an idea for a deck? I hope so, as it is very clever & has a black humor.

Perhaps 10-Cups could qualify for the "Non-traditional family".

Just think of the challenge & the fun that awaits with the naming of the minors!!

Kiama  27 Nov 2002
I can just imagine reading with that deck...

'Ah, here we have the Intllectually Challenged Person, indicating the fact that you are totally stupid.'

;)

OK, I've let this distract me from my REAL deck for a spell:

http://www.geocities.com/dangerdorx/PCTarot.htm

(Not bad for one evening's work!)

But I'm NOT doing the minors!

You made an interesting point, MeeWah, and I've been thinking about it. Of course you can't have suits that refer to weapons or money, they might offend somebody. I've decided the suits would be Things, Stuff, Items, and Objects.

As for the court cards, we have to get rid of those pesky genders. I was considering The Producer, The Director, The Executive, and The Administrator... but all that Differently Designated Empowerment might offend someone. I think it's safest to go with The Person, The Person, The Person and The Person.

Dangerdork, I hope you see what can happen when you throw caution to the wind and just go with the flow??? ...... something really insightful and strong comes out your brain and onto the internet.
It just goes to show that real art can be so contrived and strangled by the thought process, that nothing original can come out of it. You....in your evenings work ... have found inspiration in brevity, well done!

Why do you think they call him Dangerdork??? ;)

Seriously allibee, thanks for the kind words. I really do feel like these were inspired - the ideas just came tumbling out of nowhere. I think Juice got me doing some free-association thinking with the "Where in the House" thread and I just got "on a roll." I came up with the concept, the 22 cards, and the 4 images all in the span of about 8 hours! And squeezed it in between working, parenting, and socializing!

"Cruelty to Animals" is still making me LOL...

truthsayer  27 Nov 2002
great idea! reminds me some of kayne's 21st century tarot thought yours has its own special identity. :) you might want to check kayne's out for curiosity's sake. i think my personal favorite has to be the hermit as the homeless person. hermit will never be the same for me again! ;)

faunabay  27 Nov 2002
Great Cards, dangerdork!! (I still love your name!! :D )

I'm with truthsayer....I LOVE the Hermit card - love the hint of a shopping cart!! ROFL And actually the Cruelty to Animals card is quite pretty (in an abstract way) :) I'd like to have that one on my wall!

Now I really! like your other (serious) deck, but I think you need to continue on with this one too!! Who says you can't do more than one deck at a time? Ask Kayne!! LOL :*

Alex  27 Nov 2002
if card III should portray a genderless pregnant person?

Great deck, Dangerdork.

So...

apart from the fact that these are really brilliant pieces of art, and I mean it - that blue is a rather male-looking colour for me, so that's all but gender-neutral! And why would we choose a LION as representative of all abused animals? Didn't you know they call them the KING of the animals? Wow, THAT's what I call a male chauvinist attitute! A zeal or a mink would do better, or rather, coming to think of it, just an abstract ANIMAL. And, thinking again, isn't the term ANIMAL in itself chauvinist and non-pc, since it makes a distinction between "higher standing" humans and "lower standing" animals? Shouldnt it just be CREATURE, or, errr... no, that is making a point for religious belief-systems involving a creator, so.... let's just say it's a LIVING BEING, ok? I hope the lion won't feel offended then...

*ggg*
many thanks for the laugh!

vijeno

ps: The thought of a pc Tarot or, even more so, a pc Tree of Life, has often amused me. Just never went far enough to actually try it... :-)

Adorian  28 Nov 2002
...and I l really liked the cards.
