Which card do you feel you can connect with at the moment? (but may not a week, month, year later?) What card, and what's the situation? (E.g. emotional, financial..)
Are there similarities or disparities between your situation and the card's meaning or depiction (as in a particular deck)? You don't have to LIKE the card at all - for example the Ten of Swords - but it just has to reflect a period you're going through right now.

The off the cuff response for me is Crowley's "The Hanged Man". I've just entered an Iniatory period in my life, and am beginning a process involving willing but painful surrender and sacrifice of my own dross. The conclusion of this process should hopefully lead to "Art" or "The Star" or best of all "The Sun", but its too soon to tell. I could fail to meet the challenges and go backwards then forwards if I am not vigilent, discerning, and willing to work hard on both a mental and physical level.

My card has been the tower all year, and that's where I am right now, too. I'm in a period of very painful, violent upheval - but the good thing is that I'm finally able to see the good in it, and give up the things I might not have been willing to give up otherwise.

I see interesting possibilities for myself but it will take a lot of work...could be 5 of wands or maybe 9 of wands.

Hard question...
Maybe Chariot - Ten of Wands. I am just oppressed and overwhelmed. In many areas. And I think I'm nearing the break-point. Not much I can do, just wait, and let the fire go off, and get lighter and lighter...
I am looking forward to a Death - 4 of Swords period.

Interesting to see almost all "negative" cards. Does anyone besides me read for themselves LESS often during troubled times 'cause "I just don't want more bad news right now?"
I think that's also a very common reason lots of lay people don't want to have their cards read...

Oh yes :)
I'm in a 9 of swords period just now, and I really don't want to read the cards for myself. I know that I will interpret any cards like 10 of swords or 3 of swords in the most negative way possible. I just don't want to know!

When I don't feel too good I often find the cards are still positive; something I don't understand at the time, but I think they tell me not to think of discomfort at the moment, but of the *bigger plan*, good things lying ahead...
when I feel bad and I do draw negative cards I tend to want to draw a clarification card and another and another... I want a solution even when there isn't one.

Death. One of my sweet birdies died this past weekend. :( I'm also going through a lot of internal changes and letting go of what I don't need. Hard but necessary.

I havent red at all in a very long time because of the negative point i m in, or should say was in its getting a bit better now. If Im at a bad point the cards tell me what i fear is the truth even if its not, learned that the hard way, so ive layed off until things are straightened out. WIll still look and ooh and aaahj over them tho hehe

Just in case it was mis-perceived ... I do not consider the 2 of swords a negative card. It is a time of communication (inner and outter in my case), and an element of trust. My situation particularly calls for intellect. When I read this question it was that image that popped into my head and I knew that is really where I am at this moment today.

ok, it seems like a LOT of us avoid reading when we think the cards will be bad. we've probably all had negative or traumatic readings come true in the past...
does anybody do this? I haven't been reading for myself for weeks, but you start saying at events: :"That was the Tower, that was the 7 of swords..."

Seriously the bad times are when I am most likely to read for myself. Good times I read for other people.
I picked the 8 of wands because of moving, changing physically and plus starting A Course in Miracles which is like flying too.
I Ching is good during bad periods. It seems to always offer hope and options. Well, so does Tarot but the sight of a 'bad' card can jar you so much that you don't do the reading properly. I have seen lots of readings in Your Readings where the person posting is so disconcerted by the appearance of one or two negative cards that they cannot look at the context and see what the cards are really saying.

Pick a five...any five... :(
I've given up reading for myself in situations like this, as the cards never seem to tell me what I want to hear...funny that, not.

I am not sure I understand what you mean, but I don't think you should have such expectations from your cards - they'll just be honest... ;)
Anyway, my choice for your situation, in light of the above as well, is a Five of Cups. There is a bridge to the house, but not in the direction you are looking at or expect it to be - just try looking around... ;)

Thats the problem Pollux, the least they could do is lie to me to make me feel better, rofl :)
Hmm... 5 cups....I'll cogitate on that, thank you

things have been improving for me lately. i think the cards that rep me are the star for hope and 8 of pentacles for apprenticeship and learning.

A lot of people so far have seemed to pick cards that have to do with change - huge upheavals that speak of loss and sometimes negativity, and often, pain. :( I don't avoid reading when things are bad, although it may slip my mind, because in my opnion that would be defeating one of the purposes of the tarot - to help us see our problems in clearer, and guide us to cope with them.

To me the five of wands is not a negative card ...it tells you you have to pick up the challenge and have to solve your problems, get some tough jobs done...but the people in the card are not weary, they love to use their energy.
Although I'd rather spend all my time at AT... or dreaming away at a lake pondering about the future... instead of having to work to make things happen *sigh* ;)

I've found that the 5 of wands when there are musicians involved can mean getting together and jamming, a rehearsal, a gig, etc. All those people together, lots of activity, controlled chaos and channeled conflict. The points and counterpoints of the different instruments (esp in a rock band) and the actual way a band LOOKS performing together just really remind me of this card, and when I've read it this way it's been really effective. So that's one non-negative meaning I've found with the 5 of W

far from avoiding my cards when i'm down, i read my cards the most when things are hard. those are the times i need the most clarity.
i've recently been through 'the tower' and 'the sun'. but not the sun in the sunshiney day sense of the sun, more like blaring, painful, clarity and truth.
so...now it's time to give up the 'eight of swords' attitude, jump on 'the wheel' ...and take control and drive 'the chariot'.

Wow I really love this :D
I'm not much of a musician but next time I get the 5 of wands maybe I should go to the pub to feed on the energy of the band jamming there and to get a little beer too of course ;)

In what comes to my love life, I'm in a "two of cups" fase (hope it lasts forever!).
Unfortunately, my professional life is more like four of pentacles; I've been losing material things but b/c of that i'm more aware of the good things in life (spiritual things like family love)...
Everything is a fase, nothing lasts forever.... not even the bad things

For me, here n now: 6 of Swords.
Old things I was comfortable with are disappearing; new things replacing them I'm not comfortable with yet.
Maybe a ® Moon symbolizes the murky changes the same way.

The card that has popped up for me most often is the World, appearing in several readings done for me by members of this forum too. Off-topic, I saw the Vampire Tarot's World at http://www.tarotpassages.com/VampXX&XXI.htm and am totally stumped as how to interpret the image there...it seems totally disconnected from the way the World card is normally interpreted.

Actually, that's probably the ugliest card in the Vampire's major arcana as well...:P It's like having a fly in my apple pie.

me thinx that the world card looks more like the death card (I've only seen a few of the cards though, so, my opinion doesn't have a very solid base).
