I'm starting this thread so that I can put all inormation regarding my thesis project in one place, for people to go to for updates. Wasn't sure what forum to post it in, and Tarotlady suggested this one. It seems like the best place for me, too, but if it works better someplace else, feel free to move it.
OK, I'll write this for the last time in one spot :).
I'm an anthropology major, and working on my senior thesis project. That is one of many reasons I'm here, to ask people questions, see their views and insights, for my thesis project. I've already posted a couple of questions, one in this forum and the other in the Using Tarot Cards forum.
Anyway, ulimately the thesis project will have to do with the particular stories that have come to be associated with the cards, both those commonly known such as the Journey of the Fool/Magician/Hero as reflected in the Major arcana, and the stories that individuals have come to associate with the cards, which may not be as widely spread. I'm also looking at how these stories relate to the uses of tarot, divinitory and nondivinitory. (And a thanks to Zorya for pointing out Diana's "The Bateleur's Tale", and thanks to Diana for sharing a wonderful story with people). :)
The thesis class actually starts next semester, but both my advisor and I feel it is neccessary to get a good start on it now. If people are interested, when I finish it (which should be by May of next semester) I can put the copy online for people to view or probably email it. As far as I know.
And here is some new information:
Mostly at this point I'm trying to see how popular the various uses, stories, beliefs, etc. are. I'm not sure how much I will quote people when I actually start writing the thesis. If I decide I might like to quote what someone says, I will ask permission first, and if they grant it, whether or not that individual wishes to remain anonomous.
Right now I'm putting each question in the forum it best seems to fit to me.
I'm about to post a couple more questions now, one in this forum and the other in the spirituality forum.
Thanks to everyone who has responded so far.
Any questions, suggestions, opinions from people on the project are welcome.

Thanks for the background info, Sara!
Just a suggestion: maybe you could add links here to all the threads in which you are asking questions for the project, so people can have an overview of all the questions being asked.

but when we decide to write a thesis on a subject that's the first step to turn that subject into work and therefore fall out of love with it soon. Good luck and arm yourself with literature. Don't forget to read and cite C.G. Jung because he's respected in academia.

Hi Alex,
I sure hope that doesn't happen. I thought about that when I chose to do my thesis, but decided to do it anyway. I've found that it can go both ways for me. Sometimes I've been turned off of a subject from doing major projects on it, but sometimes I've discovered whole nes territories to explore. I hope it's the latter that happens here. (so far, it's been the latter, but I haven't began the hard part yet, actually writing the thesis.) But yes, the thought has crossed my mind and I do sometimes wonder, but we'll have to wait and see.

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to let people know, while I have a few minutes to spare, that I've been in and out and will continue to be in and out for a little while longer b/c of the holidays, probably like everyone else here. After that I hope to be able to post more and read more. Just wanted to say that so far I've enjoyed reading everyone's posts, and being here in general makes me wish I had more time to spend with my own (pretty bad when my family already thinks I devote too much time to the cards as it is :). )
Anyway, thanks everyone, I will post more questions when I have time.

The next question is posted here:
http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10605
Haven't been on the computer for the last couple of days, been really busy getting ready for the new semester. Classes start tomorrow, and our first meeting for senior thesis is either wednesday or thursday, have to check my schedule. Be able to find out more about the requirements for the project and make sure I'm on the right track with everything.
Anyone else going back to school within the next week or two?

He is? Well, I suppose so. At least, they've got his books in the library stacks. I noticed when I was taking Intro to Psych that Jung got rather glossed over ("Oh yeah, he explored the subconscious and developed the idea of the collective unconscious. Punkt.") But then again, maybe it was just my particular textbook.
