Hi everyone,
Kinda new to the forum, but I'm sure this is a great place to ask this question! I have been mentally planning out a series of collages based on cards from the Major Arcana. I plan on making them fairly large and as I'm relatively new to tarot I was wondering if anyone could offer some ideas of nuances of the cards I chose. The cards I'm panning on using are The Priestess, The Star, The Devil, The Moon, and The Lovers. I'm learning more about the cards everyday, but I know there is alot left to learn so if anyone has any aspects of these cards that they deem especially important please share them and aide in the creation of what I think will be a beautiful series. Oh also any ideas for material objects which could symbolize aspects of these cards would be really cool.

I too have been "planning" to make my own cards, but I was going to go for the entire major arcana series. I'm not an artist in that I have good control of mediums (not the psychic type) and thought collage would be a good place to work. This is not to say that collage is not suitable as a legitimate format, because I feel it definitely is that. It's one that I can get into. Actually, ten years ago, I was quite involved in 'mail art,' a huge network of people who traded their creations thru the mail.

I have a pile of interesting magazines that I keep meaning to go through, searching for suitable pictures for my tarot cards. If you already are not doing so (though I suspect you are!), you might consider that, and gather envelopes for those images that are quite focused on your conceptions for each card. I was going to label 22 envelopes and start up. Of course, some images would be useful on any cards, other than those very focused images, so it would be like putting together a jigsaw puzzle, with a table full of images, moving everything around as your ideas come more into clear focus.

How about basing your collage on a particular spread?

http://www.tarotspreads.com has a very wide variety of them, using any number of cards. Check 'em out and see if any grab you.

The idea of using a particular spread does sound really interesting, as it was I was planning on just using the cards that spoke to me, or intrigued me the most. I also like the idea of doing the entire major arcana, but that sounds like a lot of work!! Not that that's a babd thing. A couple local shops display my collages though and I'm not sure how many they would be able to accomodate. The 'mail art' thing sounds really cool, how does that work exactly? I'm constantly giving them away because I don't really believe in selling them. Thanks for the feedback.

Why do I have this feeling the Fickled Fingers of Fate, the Group deities, are going to move us to the Deck Creation section?
