I've been using Tarot cards for about a year and a half now. Much I'd love to study Tarot with an experienced teacher, there has never been any oppertunities to do so.
So imagine my delight when such a tarot reader announced that before his retirement, he would be running an 8 week course. At long last this was my perfect chance!!!
So I rang up to get more info.....
£650!!!!!!
I nearly fell over when I heard the cost. As a mum of 2 I won't ever be able to fork out that amount!
So can we only gain the insight of more experianced readers if we can afford such expensive prices?
The man in question told me that it was a perfectly just price since anyone finishing this course would make that money back in no time. At what price to the client.
I don't believe in charging huge prices since this tool should be accessible to all.
I have never charged for any reading I've done since I'm only learning and the experiance in itself is payment enough.
So does this mean I'll never have the benifit of a more experiance reader to help me though?
What have your experiances been?
Blessings,
Evie

Evie, you already have the best classroom and teachers you could find anywhere, and that's at Aeclectic.... and it's FREE.
A teacher can only teach you just so much, then you have to leave the nest and learn to fly on your own. Maybe you are at that fledgling stage now, and I'm sure we will help catch you if you fall.
If you count it up, there are probably at least a couple of hundred years experience here, and you can't buy that anywhere.
From my own experience I've never had any teaching - some might say "yes, we can tell", hehehe - whereas my feedback has been very positive on here and privately. Like I said, there is only just so much you can be taught, the rest is trail and error, which nobody can teach you but experience.
There maybe advanced classes in tarot which may add to your knowledge, but personally speaking, at the early stages there are at least two good online courses free Joan Bunnings and Lotus Tarot, so I personally speaking wouldn't part with a penny.

Here's Joan's website.
I heartily recommend buying her book, too.

Of course, you're right where you should be to get lots of insight on tarot and other subjects of interest, Aecletic!

I did some reading before I went to formal lessons, but I did find the lessons very useful. It cost £30 for an afternoon session.
There were 6 students. We learnt about the cards, how to spread and read, and also we read for each other. Finally, at the end, we also read for volunteers, and even for paying clients.
I learnt a lot, and I would recommend it. I can't recall how many lessons I had, but I would guess 13?
The teacher now has a new place in Dartford, east London, England.

EvieMae, I've discovered better teachers and companions in learning on Aeclectic than any book or fancy course out there could ~possibly~ offer. Joan's course is excellent, and we all have favorite tarot authors we can suggest, but take advantage of Aeclectic and ask lots of questions and contribute your own ideas to discussions when you time away from the busy job of being a mum and you will have, for free, a better "education" in tarot than money can buy. Any where.

Daylight robbery, that is.
That person hasn't understood the spirit of Tarot.
I have taken Tarot classes, and am taking a new one at the moment. But the prices are extremely reasonable, and no-one feels they're having to fork out and deprive themselves for learning about this wonderful journey that we can enjoy with Tarot.
Until you find someone honest, everyone has given you great advice here, and on top of it, you can ask ALL the questions you want here and you'll not only have one teacher, but dozens. And you can teach us too!

Eviemay, we all here to listen, and help if we can, that's the great thing about Aeclectic.
Personally, I'm a firm believer in the value of being self-taught. That's not to say anything against classes, for some they are the best answer. Most of the things I have learned have been outside a classroom. I don't just mean life knowledge, street smarts, things like that. (Although that is important too) I'm talking about things that I have researched, read, and worked on alone.
Sometimes the self-taught are unfairly judged for not having a degree, certification, whatever...(But then obviously I would say that)
The price for class the you are mentioned sounds outrageous to me. I haven't looked into any Tarot classes. But if learning in a group setting is what's best for you, I think you will find people who are teaching classes for a more reasonable rate.
Good luck in your journey.

I agree with everything that's been posted so far...especially how outrageous that price was! I teach classes occasionally and charge $20 US per class. I never approach it as an "investment" put towards making money later. Sadly, a lot of the other "lightworkers" in my area (Reiki, Tai Chi, Yoga, Channeling, etc.) are just that way. Sad.
But here's to aeclectic! The best teacher you could ask for!

I also agree with all said here...
Here in portugal many of the university courses (in general) are useless when you're trying to find a REAL job. It's all theory and stuff, but if you really want to work, somebody else has to teach you how to do things. With tarot is the same thing... you can have a tarot course, but you can learn much more than that by yourself.
In what comes to tarot, I think that you can learn everything you need by yourself, as long as you really want it and look in the right places (like Aeclectic :D). Yet I also wanted to do a course once and it would cost me 150 €, which is too much for my budget. I have also looked for reiki, and here it goes from 75 until 250 €. My problem about "getting your money back" is that I never have the courage to ask money for my readings.....:P
I would never pay 650£ for a course... if you really want to do it, look for something a little less expensive (and I'm pretty sure that's what you'll do)

I used to hold a complete e-tarot-education for about 50 € on my home-page before, and that cost was just enough to cover my administrative and time expenses. Did it most for the fun out of it.
Then I have a friend who's taking a Clairvoyant and Healing Education and pays a lot of money for nothing. They teach her these fuzzy meaningless techniques for what she pays them about 4000 € - for the whole thing that is. And how do I know that the techniques do not work? Well, I went to the school of hers for an auric/clairvoyant reading by them - they read in groups, (paid about 30 € for it) and didn't get any useful information out of it... Just the general kind of mudd you'll usually get from these kind of services. And then I attended some activities of theirs at a New Age-fair, which even more fortified my suspicions. Qualified BS for a fortune - isn't it? Shameless...

Eviemay, I've got to toss in my agreement with the others here. There are many, many other sources of very good information on the Tarot than spending that kind of money on that course. Methinks he is trying to fund his retirement from this single class. Just my opinion, of course... ;)
I do have to add that the discussions which go on continuously here at Aeclectic Tarot have helped me to learn more about the Tarot in a few months than I'd learned in the previous 2 years. Of course, picking up a couple of more books and another deck or two helped... :| Getting more experience doing readings has helped as well. But the insight I've gained here on A.T. has really helped me put it all together. Get in here, post some of your readings on which you have questions, do some searches on previous threads, join the discussions and post your questions. I'm sure you'll be learning a lot.
